Thought I would start a thread similar to Bones, I have loads of pics as well. I will start with a few that have been posted already but may have been missed on my Montana thread. I will post at least one new one each week until next season, probably more than that but at least one a week.
-
The "Schoolhouse Buck"

"Smalls"

Good looking bucks
-
"SchoolhouseII"
-
Luv it!!! Two days and counting!!! Tic Toc Tic Toc.............lol

-
Great pics!!!!!!
-
cool idea, something for us to look forward to :)
-
I like the first one, peekaboo!
-
Great pic's, and a good idea!
-
Very Nice Phool! What are you shooting??
-
Do you have any more frontal shots of the Schoolhouse buck? Nice pictures.
-
is the school house buck standing 5 yards from ur cabin??
-
LTL that schoolhouse II is a different buck and no that wasn't our cabin ... that was an old house the guy we were staying with grew up in. The rest of the story on the schoolhouse II buck was that 2 days after this photo I stalked within 160 yards of this guy about 3/4 mile from this location at the schoolhouse! while I was getting set up for the shot he bedded in a dip in the ground and all I could see was about 1/2 of his skull cap and antlers :( well if I had all day I would have waited him out but I only had about 10 minutes of shooting light left and so I was trying to move and crawl on the ground as to see of I could get an angle or some elevation to get a shot when I was spotted by one of the 15 or so other deer with him. Well off they ran and when he stood up and took 2 steps the ridge behind him turned everything black! no shot ... i was bummed to say the least cause he seemed heaveir than the first buck but not quite as wide.
-
They all look like wall hangers to me but I love em all...very nice pics
man Id done strange twisted favors to have been there with you boys!
-
Id done strange twisted favors to have been there with you boys!
you should see what I had to do to go!!!! :chuckle: But I'm right there with ya LTL they all looked good to me! That smalls buck was cool looking and wide and I think cause his body was small it made his rack look impressive and BTW he got a stay of execution from me cause he was a little too far on the wrong side of the fence if you know what I mean! ;)
-
Here you go TMike.
Slider you are going to have a blast, take lots of pics and shoot them RAW if you can.
Hornseeker, its a Canon 20D with a EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS lens.
LTL, you just get your ass safely back home.
-
It would be cool to see that buck again on the next trip! He would have to eat lead for sure! :hunter:
-
Another
-
Thanks for the pictures. I let one walk that was a little narrower, but very similar to that schoolhouse buck early in my hunt :bash:
-
I suppose I should rename that last pic of him, its actually the chithouse in the background of that pic :chuckle:
-
:chuckle:
-
Here are a couple more of this last buck. The pics are not sharp but you can still get a good look at his forks. Too bad he had crabby fronts.
-
Sorry about the delay, been out chasing bullwinkle.
-
there he goes
-
Some blurry ones
-
one more
-
Alright......my damn computer won't open the pics. Probably because it has too many of mine on it. I know they are there. hmmmmmm time to reboot. I'll be back
-
GREAT PICS. Are you headed back for elk?
-
GREAT PICS. Are you headed back for elk?
Not sure Bone, right now I'm focused on finding a pair of sheds ;)
-
At least they aren't small whitetail sheds in that crap and at least the snow isn't pounding down. GOOD LUCK! Should be close to where you dumped him.
-
GREAT PIC`S thanks for sharing them!!!!!
-
posted these on a different thread
-
I'm preobably as bad as Mray. I'm thinking shooter.

If you don't mind me asking, what camera are you using, and what lens do you use most of the time. Thanks... Oh, you are also making me realize I need to take more advantage of all my families land in Montana. :chuckle:
-
PM sent TM
I have used Canons since I purchased my first SLR in the late 70's. I love Nikon optics but Canon has always done me well. Right now I use the 20D which I paid about $1800 for along with the standard lens, bag, software, strap batteries, charger, cards etc. about 3+ years ago. M-Ray just picked up the same camera body for less than $300.00.
This camera will do everything anyone on here will ever want with the exception of 2-3 guys.
Lenses, too many to pick from, but thats the beauty of a SLR, options, options, options.
This pick was shot with a Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS USM, the picture was shot at ISO 100, 1/125, f/9.0, 100-400@400
-
That would be an awesome cape off that guy!
-
That would be an awesome cape off that guy!
He needs another couple years ;)
-
Thought I should add a doe every once in a while.
-
Love all the pics! That last buck does have a pretty cape.....White face, throat patch. He'll be a dandy in another year or two! Nice job Rob!
-
He grows into those back forks. Great pic of him.
-
Great pic's phool
-
Thanks guys. This one is soft but you get the idea, flying deer this time of year is not that uncommon
-
Hide-n-seek
-
Just a little guy

Super Forkie

Are most of those from your montana trips? Great bucks...
-
About 50/50
-
Rutn 3 point
-
.
-
Nice little buck
-
Great Pics thanks for posting!!
-
Couple more of the same buck.
-
A couple more years for this guy as well.
-
This buck was a stud.
-
Up close
-
Thanks for posting all the Great Photos and stories!!
-
.
-
if that buck had a indian name givin to him, it would be "sliding deer" :chuckle:
-
That G2 on the left side is HUGE :P
-
I better add this guy
-
same genes or same buck?
-
couple more nice bucks
-
I'd have to say same genes...Looks like the top buck only has an eye guard on his left antler and the bottom buck has them on both. Looks as though the top has more of an crab claw on the front right vs. the bottom on having a little better length. But I'm sure you know that ;)
-
I should also add that last year was very dry in this area and this year was very wet leading to better nutrition. That could be why he grew the new brow and a couple extra kickers :dunno:
-
same buck. He has the nub on the one antler. same buck or twin brother.
-
same buck... his right(our left) is the exact same if you look closely, but bigger on the second photo, and he must of grown that eye gaurd back or something?
-
same buck. He has the nub on the one antler. same buck or twin brother.
Thats exactly what I was thinking Bone.
-
.
-
170
-
Here is another of the buck I called "Forks"
-
Thats a pig of a body on that last buck!!!
And My guess is that the NT buck is the same buck... his ear on our left side (his right) has the same wierd dark coloration and the antlers are the same, just bigger with more points... :dunno:
Michael
-
Here a couple more of "Forks", by the way he will go 170 too ;)
-
Canon 20D, EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM, ISO200, 400mm, f/9, 1/500
-
A couple for this week. Check out the neck on this guy.
-
Another average joe
-
I called this guy "Symmetry" his rack was almost identical side by side
-
A couple more years.
-
.
-
Couple more for him too.
-
Another of this guy.
-
Fantastic thread huntnphool. Beautiful deer.
-
they look nice and plump :EAT:
-
Damn, no wonder why you have 30k on that camera... :P
-
Damn, no wonder why you have 30k on that camera...
\
I think 29K are deer ;)
-
thanks for all the great pics
-
Great additions Rob!
-
looking good.
-
Keep 'em coming, thost last few were pretty swollen!
-
few more pics for ya.
-
Shooter?
-
Squared up.
-
So much negativity I thought I would break it up with a couple more pics.
-
Your typical Washington opening day buck.
-
Odd how a rack always looks so much bigger walking away. I am sure there is a dimensional reason for that, but I'm a little behind on my physics (probably because I never took that class..)
Looking back on my hunting career, I have probably overestimated bucks that I only saw walking/running away.
-
I hear ya but some of these guys are as big as they seem.
-
Oh, no doubt. I just find that I always think they're bigger walking away.
-
Nice 5 point
-
Deep forks
-
Peekaboo with a little guy.
-
.
-
Another little guy
-
That last "little guy" won't be a little guy next year.
-
Couple pics for this week
-
Here is a start for this week.
-
He's not a bad buck....
-
That buck is going to be a bruiser!!! Sweet picture....
Michael
-
Unfortunatly I don't think he will ever grow a 4th on his left.
-
Sweet....great pictures. I can picture myself with a bow waiting for one of them... :)
-
Very nice!! Love that 3x3 in a sneak...make a great mount! He may stay a big 3 next year and be a shooter for sure.
-
Very nice!! Love that 3x3 in a sneak...make a great mount! He may stay a big 3 next year and be a shooter for sure.
Thanks guys. You are probably right, I think he is going to stay a 3 as well. I guess I will have to locate him for some pics next year to compare ;)
Here is one more of this guy, I will see if I can find another of that 3 point for you.
-
Here you go B4E.
-
Yes!! Great buck! There is a monster 3x3 in the CDOW headquarters in Denver. It's a B&C qualifier. Biggest clean 3x I've ever seen.
-
Well this guy isn't going to make the book but he was fun to watch.
-
Nope, he's a young deer. Great photos. Always enjoy them! I used to shoot a lot before my equipment was stolen. I just never replaced it and now with young kids, etc. I just don't have the time I once did.
-

-

Cant get the big one if you shoot the little ones ;)

Here is a start to this weeks photos
-
They all can't be mature
-
man you must have one heck of a spot in montana. I would love to get drawn one of these years. Are you on a private ranch or something.
-
man you must have one heck of a spot in montana.
Whats funny Red Dawg is everyone assumes these deer are all from Montana when actually about 50% are Washington deer, Bone and I frequent the same areas ;) but yes as M-Ray can attest the place in Montana is one heck of a spot.
-
Well wearever they are from you are taking some great pics. Keep up the hard work.
-
LOVE that 4X5...
-
That 3x4 has got some awesome eyeguards!
-
Actually Skinner he is a 4X, just a small fork in the back was hidden.
-
I wondered! I think I liked him better as a 3x4!!
-
Still a solid mature buck, look at the neck on that guy, it starts at eye level.
-
I wondered! I think I liked him better as a 3x4!!
I think I would like him better as whatever he looks like in the fall of 2009. Another season on that guy and he will be a helluva good buck.
-
Seeing all these nice mounts being posted I thought I would post some of mine, although I dont have any 190+ scores. This is number 81 in the Washington book with a score of 181 and change. He has 6 1/8" bases :yike: and has more than 40" of mass. Keep in mind my daughter is 10 and is sitting in front of the buck not behind, for all you long arm nazis :chuckle:
I will try to get more up in the next week or so.
-
Awesome pictures phool. That's a beautiful mount your daughter is holding!
-
Nice buck phool. Sure had a nice time at the party with all you guys!
-
Thanks guys.
Sure had a nice time at the party with all you guys!
It was very enjoyable, and the food  WOW!!!
-
Here is another buck mount, much wider and has an extra but scores the same with not near the mass. Just goes to show that although my favorite part of the rack is mass, it doesn't amount to much when it comes to scoring :twocents:
-
Great bucks again phool..What are the stories behind your WA bucks. I know there Methow bucks from previouse posts, you sure got some whoppers. You still hunting deer in WA or just Montana?
-
You still hunting deer in WA or just Montana?
Well this year I had to burn the Washington deer tag, having been burdened with that damned moose tag :chuckle:
-

Yeah that must have really sucked :)
-
:'(
-
Spork
-
SporkII
-
SporkIII
-
is the one in the background a spork or a fork?
-
He is just a fork
-
lol its funny a spork and a fork are veyr close to being the same but I like how he is said to be "just a fork" :chuckle: maybe its just my sense of humor but I thought that was funny
-
Well somebody got a little upset a while back when I posted a spork in the superfork thread so I thought I would clarify ;)
-
Well somebody got a little upset a while back when I posted a spork in the superfork thread so I thought I would clarify ;)
Was it a Fork ELITIST? like is Bone a Fork ELIST like he is with the 5 points?
-
Great pics!!! Thanks for posting them and keep them coming!
-
Couple more of those two.
-
.
-
found another of these two
-
I thought I would post a few at a time this time so Bone doesn't think I'm spoon feeding him again :chuckle: This guy was so hot in the rut he couldn't have cared less about me. I spotted him about 100 yards off a road and stopped to take a couple pics. To my surprise he walked right into the wind, on a doe's scent, and walked 20 yards in front of me, right on by in hot pursuit of a doe he couldn't even see. I have several so I will post a few tonight and a few tomorrow and so on.
-
A few are not in focus but I thought it was important to watch as he walked.
-
He never even looks at me, the diesel is running and I'm standing in front of it. By the way guys, dont forget to "click the pic" to see the correct image ;)
-
Sweet pic's phool.
-
Spoon feeding continued :chuckle:
-
getting closer
-
.
-
hmm. I'd love to run into him next year. That's a healthy deer.
-
.
-
.
-
.
-
.
-
.
-
Huntnphool, you are going to be solely responsible for me having to cough up and get off this damn dialup modem! :'(
-
.
-
.
-
he stopped to sniff the air then turned to follow the scent.
-
.
-
.
-
And then he was gone.
-
That one has an orange thing stuck up his butt.......I am laughing becasue I took some bull shots of this elk in the timber. All I could see of his head and when I got them back he had ribbon (bright orange) dangling out (over his butt) like a huge tape worm. I'm like what are the odds.
-
I love the one of the buck jumping the fence.
I've got another one thats even better, I will get it up on here at some point.
-
bravo, and hurry up
-
I could not possibly be more jealous of the opportunities you have to spend all this time watching wildlife and snapping such great photos. Thanks for taking us along! And that goes for you too, Bone Addict! :)
-
This guy has potential if he stops busting himself up.
-
.
-
One in the snow
-
Haven't posted any hoof pics lately so here is one.
-
and one more, again "click on pic" for sharpest image.
-
Nice break from all the bald-headed herds running around in March... :chuckle:
-
One of my favorites, thanks for sharing again. :)
-
SOME GOOD BUCKS AND PICS. NICE
-
Dandy bucks for sure!
-
I like them all. Thanks again for the help with my photo!
-
Its about time to add some more pics, I will get some up soon to get the fever going again
-
I came down with the fever when I went to mt.fwp.gov and saw "successful" next to my name... :chuckle:
-
Here is one focused on the branches..............long tines but only a 3, do you shoot or pass?
-
...........and one focused on him.
-
Long tines and tall, but not much spread (?)
First day of the hunt....pass
5th day... dead buck...
(unless I am wrong about the spread... if he's over 22" then he's dead first day too... :chuckle: )
-
pass!
-
I'd like him in about 2 years. He'll probably still be a 3 and with some mass, one hell of a basket buck.
-
He's still out there so maybe we will get lucky and capture him again.
-
I'm betting someone on here would have dropped him. Anyone see the kicker before this pic?
-
There he goes
-
I'm betting someone on here would have dropped him.
thats why you hold onto people's ammo for them, phool.
i don't think i would shoot that buck in MT...wierd narrow rack. i am not a fan, at least not now.
i would in WA. though with a general tag.
-
It will be interesting to see his growth if I can find him again Josh, he obviosly lacks the 4 point genome but has some awesome tine length and mains.
-
the 3 point thing doesn't bother me at all...i like them just fine... just want one a little wider.
it'll be neat to see what he looks like this year if you can find him again.
-
Agree with Jackalope. In MT I would pass unless it was getting towards the end of my hunt. In WA that's a dead buck and I am a happy camper :)
-
I'm betting someone on here would have dropped him.
I'd shoot him no question
-
That is a mature buck, he looks very old (look at the white face) I'd drop him. Any mature deer is a trophy after surviving the gauntlet for 5 or 6 years
-
Jumping buck
-
Up....
-
...up......
-
...and away.
-
Now what.
-
Great Pics Phool!
and that one's definitely a shooter for me, Montana, Washington, wherever...
-
What phool doesn't tell you is that when we stopped to glass this buck he was a half a mile away and running hard in our direction! Maybe Phool will show you guy's what happend next!!! ;)
-
...stop teasin'....
"I want! I want! I want!
I need! I need! I need!"

-
Nice additions Phool.

not a 17 hour drive shooter on the 1st day for me.

You guys are strong as oaks.
-
I like "Talls". Man, hes got some great backs. Doesnt even look very old in that picture.
-
Here you go Crowns, he should be a good looking buck next year.
-
I am sure.
he's almost a 3 point on his driver side. in Wa. he'd be dead, if i was bowhunting, he's a shooter, but in s.e. MT on the 1st day with a rifle...no.
-
Great pics again phool!
-
Yeah hes awesome. Gorgeous looking deer, that cape is clean in those shots. Hes got great potential Id say.
-
Thanks Mtn, lets not forget the girls.
-
"The King"
-
I like that buck!
-
I like "Talls". Man, hes got some great backs. Doesnt even look very old in that picture.
I liked him too!!! We looked for him for a day and didn't see him agin and then the afternoon I had allready shot mine wouldn't you know we found Talls again!!! He should be an absolute stud in the next couple of years!!!
-
Good to see you posting more pic's phool! Great shots.
-
Here are a couple small bucks right outside our cabin.
-
:camp:
-
Great Pics Man!!!!! Makes me want to go out and buy some good camera equipment
-
Man Phool, I love your photos. One question, why are you always blessed with blue skies on your hunts? ;)
I think the point about bow vs rifle is key in making the decision to tag a younger or questionable deer on day 1. I don't rifle hunt anymore (though I suppose I would in certain situations) so for me any of these bucks would be worthy of a stalk with a bow. Considering the stalk/success ratio needed to finally get one that sticks, I would be playing those odds in hopes that the one that panned out was notable. If it turned out that I got a gimme on a smaller but representative typical 4x4 early on, so be it. I'd be very happy with that too. I like holding out but my time is always limited so I'm more of an opportunist these days. I don't define success by killing an animal, but out of state hunts aren't cheap so I like to put meat in the freezer if possible.
I guess I'm a hypocrit too because I passed a clueless raghorn Oregon bull at 12 feet on day 1, only to have eaten my tag due to an unexpected early departure home. :chuckle:

My buddy and I talked about this very thing on our East Montana hunt (first time hunting there for both of us). If we had been bowhunting, better than half of the bucks we saw would have been deemed "shooters". The deer were so alert (visually) and always so well positioned (topographically) that making a stalk to within bow range would have been a major challenge. In fact, once we got within 300 yards, a doe almost invariably spotted us. Would be a blast bowhunting them out there, but bring extra hair... cause you'll be pullin' lots out... :chuckle:
-
One question, why are you always blessed with blue skies on your hunts?
Maybe its because we are hunting deer and not ducks :chuckle:
Seriously though, we had few clouds the entire time this year until the drive home. There is a reason why they call it "Big Sky Country" and the blues quickly give way to red and orange in the evening, I wish I had a bigger buck for this shot but I'll take it.
-
Gotta love the rut. A doe pissed on the ground and this guy walked over to the spot, sniffed and then went nuts.
-
more great pics
-
:tung:
-
That 90 degree nose shot is the highest I've seen!
-
awesome pics :)
-
That 90 degree nose shot is the highest I've seen!
I have about 10 images of him moving his head side to side like this after sniffing that wet spot on the ground, it looked like his eyes rolled back in his head like a great white biting its victim.
I don't think his intentions were honerable after that :chuckle:
-
looks like rudolph in the last pic :chuckle:
-
Got this guy for the thrid year in a row. The bottom pic should be looked at right to left for year sequence.
-
Great series of a very cool buck phool! That's worthy a three place photo frame.
