Are there any clinics like this around the Spokane area?

Not that I know of ... you may want to contact the NWTF Spokane Spurs Chapter or the various sporting goods stores in your area ....

I can't help with the clinic issue, but I'm in Pullman and grew up hunting turkeys in the midwest and would be willing to give you some help.

Everybody from the novice to the most experienced turkey hunter can benefit from attending one of Turkeydancers clinics. Birdguy, Little buck, myself and countless others owe a lot to Al for teaching us the ropes and taking us along on many hunts through the years and every time we all learn something new. Take the time to spend a couple of hours and I'm sure you wont regret it.
-
We had a refresher course last year and yes it's always good to go to school. My first seminar since 2003 back when Jerry's Surplus was still around. Can honestly say Al your presentation is way better than the Primos guys presentation!

FYI - The non-sanctioned Calling Contest is Sun Mar 16th starting at noon ... I know they want you to pre-register for the clinic due to limited seating ... not sure if you need to register for the calling contest, but I guess it wouldn;t hurt.
Thanks for the positive feedback on the clinic guys ... although there is no way to impart everything I know, I try and get more than enough info out their to greatly reduce the steep learning curve and give everyone a chance to have fun and hopefully have a chance.
And I have to say "I'm still learning .... the birds teach me lessons, they're just not teaching me all the time!".
:chuckle:  :chuckle:

Do we call the store to register for the contest?

Do we call the store to register for the contest?
So I went ahead and called the store, and the very nice young lady that I spoke to had no idea what I was talking about with the contest at 12:00, she kept telling me it was only a clinic at 2:00. I also asked her to pre-register me for the clinic, but she said I did not need to.

Did you talk with the event coordinator Katie (360-474-4880)? I guess I need to talk with Katie myself, because I told I would help with the calling contest (that's usually fun and a good draw for them).
If you're coming to the clinic, the Sat Mar 15th noon - 2pm would be the complete two hours one. The one Sun Mar 16th at 2pm - 3pm is just going to cover some strategies and tactics (1 hr). I know we had a pretty full room (approx 75 people) on the Feb 22nd clinic and I heard they were diverting some people to Mar 15th.

I think her name was Jessica. I'll try calling back and asking for Katie.

AL...You had how many people ..?? :yike: That's great ..
-
Is this calling contest being put on by the same people as last year ?
-
approx 75 with approx 5 no shows (not as many as the 106+ I had in Lacey a few years ago) ... it was a really good group.
Calling contest people will probably be the store people again, but they asked me to help .... probably keep it pretty simple versus the ones we did in Lacey which were more along the NWTF's contest rules (although also not sanctioned).
JB - Better use your "Yelper Helper" so you don't choke on your diaphragm .... :yike: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

:chuckle: I have been practicing ...I may need to pull out a few of my top secrete calls ...A straw and a dollar bill ..have not shown anyone these tricks yet .....hope I can make it but I have never been so busy ....Knock on wood ! Maybe let the callers use multiple calls :dunno:

when is the last day you can register?
-
The pre-registration guarantees you a spot at the free clinic, but it may (emphasis on may) not limit you from being able to walk-in. I would think it best to pre-register and not show, than show and find all seats/room accounted for. The pre-registration gives the store an idea of the approximate number of chairs they need to set up .... but since seating is also limited, they may at some point would need to start turning people away. It may be the case you could call the morning of the clinic or just show up, but then again ........ :dunno:
-
I will call and register.
-
I did verify with Cabelas - Tulalip that there will be an informal calling contest on Sun Mar 16th with Youth @ 11:30 and adults @ 12:00 at the Conservation Mountain. Katie is ensuring their operators are aware and has now posted on their website under Store Events.
-
***Pre-registration is required by calling 360-474-4880.***
I just called and they said that no registration is required, just come on in. At least, this time the operator actually knew about the Turkey clinic. The other time she didn't have a clue.
I'll be there :) Last time I had plumbing issues so I couldn't make it.
-
I think it best when you call to ask for the Event Coordinator Katie Sanford - I don't think the operators have a clue.
-
They couldn't register me no one knew about it and they claimed there system wasn't updated. :bash:
-
Did you talk with Katie Sanford ? You're probably okay just showing up ...
-
Man I wish I could go. But i'll be doing a bear calling seminar at the Lacey cabelas. Love calling turkeys. Being a callmaker I get to trade with other callmakers. Today I have 9 strikers coming like a little kid waiting. Have fun every one see you in Colville. Rick
-
I used to do all their turkey calling seminars at Lacey, but since Arlen retired the new girl just doesn't make the arrangements with me soon enough or not at all or cancels them ... Klickitat Guide services is doing them there now ....
-
I see another person is doing a bear thing before me . not sure who. Macey is on maternity leave. I watch for the seminar. Good luck on yours. Rick
-
Thanks, and you too !
I'm sure its not your first rodeo either ....... :chuckle:
-
