So I'm going to get a new duck hunting jacket for this next season. Anyone have any thoughts on any good ones? I've been looking and drake LST equader 3-1 wader jacket. Thoughts? Thanks guts and I look forward to hearing from you!

What is your budget?
-
Whatever it takes to get a good jacket. I'd like to keep it 350 or below though at the most.
-
Oh, yikes, a bit more budget than I am able to set. My jacket choices over the years have been much lower in cost, from sites like Sierra Trading Post etc... Usually under $100..... I have no idea in the high end market, sorry.

I have a Riverswest parka that I really like however its not as waterproof as they would like you to believe. It is a great windstopper and warm on those cold days in the blind. I don't favor the wading style jackets as they seem to ride up/bunch up for me. I just take my coat off if I need to venture out into the water for some reason.

Get one of the new Beretta jackets in the Sitka camo pattern. A good jack that is Gortex and comes with liner.
I have the Rivers West Eider jacket as well. Very warm, but wasn't waterproof. I sent it back twice and they finally taped and sealed the seams on the inside to make it waterproof.

XXL RIVERS WEST, your not gonna hike alot so you wont over heat, and they dont let water in, flat awesome product

Loaded question..
Are you hunting in the rain primarily?
What type of temps are you typically in?
Are you a wuss and get cold easy? :chuckle: :chuckle: (Just kidding about the wuss comment). But really do you get cold easy?
For me I have a lightweight browning for the dry side. It is a silent material. Not sure they make it anymore either.
I also have a couple of Drake waterfowl jackets One heavy for the real cold and one lighter pull over.
If and when I might hunt the rain on the wetside The driest jacket I own is my Filson Light Cruiser wax coat..

I wear the under armour skysweeper for the west side.

Thank you all for the replies! I'm really leaning towards the sitka stuff but I'm weird and have this thing about matching so they won't match with my waders still really like the sitka stuff though. It really is a toss up between that and the drake equader jacket. I just have a rough time stomaching the price of sitka.
To answer your question lndshrk I'm a bigger guy that's got a few pounds of insulation so I don't get cold as easy as others. I will be using this jacket all yr from early season to the last day of the season. I hunt all over the state but mostly over in the east side on the snake or Columbia.

Get the Sitka. Buy once, cry once. :chuckle:
-
Thanks for all the help guys. The last few days I've done a TON of reading up on different jackets. Looks like I'm gonna bite a huge bullet and get the sitka gear stuff. I guess that's what over times for right? Lol.

I had a Riverswest. Too stiff and confining for my taste. Warm in windy conditions, too hot when you have to walk or carry stuff too far. Had a Drake shell. Zipper busted about the 4th time I used it. Had a Drake Hoodie and the pocket ripped out after the first wash. I've ended up using my old Browning GoreTex shell I originally got for bowhunting for the last two seasons. It's been the best jacket I've used waterfowling yet. I've tested a Sitka Gear Jacket and liked it a lot. It will probably be my next purchase. I like just a waterproof shell and layer underneath. When it gets REAL cold I have this big LL Bean Waterfowl Parka that is like a giant sleeping bag I wear however, it's rarely cold enough for it.

I really like my Sitka Jacket. That said I am really annoyed that the hood doesn't zip on and off.

I agree!!! Everything has a dang hoodie these days. Like rappers and street thugs are going to be hunting big game or ducks >:(
The Sitka stuff is great, but I think it puts you above the $350 budget unless you find a closeout somewhere.
-
Ranch N home had a great price on them when I bought mine.

Go with the Sitka. I just got a duck oven and with a sweatshirt that was more than enough to keep me warm. I might get the Hudson as well just for really cold conditions, but with how light duck oven was allow full mobility, I see myself wearing that 95% of the time. I can't stand bulk when hunting. That jacket was 219. Not too bad for what you get. The wind stopper is the biggest asset, especially when hunting the eastside. Good luck.

Ha! Funny, I always want the hoody on jackets. Like pulling that hood up over my hat too when the wind and rain are sideways! I guess I am getting old...

You just need to get yourself one of these Iceman. They are cool!!! And then if the wind gets blowing too hard you can pull it down and turn yourself into Dumb Donald awesome :chuckle:

Mossy oak available? :chuckle:
-
Figured I needed to add a picture of Dumb Donald. Wasn't sure all the young guys would know who that was ;)
I'm not sure if those are available in Mossy Oak. But, these are. PM Hirshey, I bet she can get you hooked up with one :chuckle:

I've been puttting a Columbia Widgeon jacket w/liner thru it's paces for about 7 - 8 yrs now with no complaints whatsoever. Great product. I'll buy another when it's time.
-
Got a tip on a good local tailor so I took my Sitka Wading Jacket in. He was able to remove the hood and then add a zipper to it so I can take it on and off now. The sewing is great and the zipper looks like it was done by the factory. The color match is nice.
I am very happy with my custom coat now and the tailor only charged $25.

Are you making fun of my sweet trapper's hat?? That thing was glorious in the snowy Idaho mountains! :P

Most men can't pull off the trapper hat as well as you do :chuckle: Still one of my favorite pictures you've posted!
I use to have one from Browning that was Gore-Tex and down. Best late season hat ever. Then I loaned it to a nephew and that was the end of that. Where did you get yours? Brand? I'm headed to northern WI in November this year for monster whitetail. I'm going to need to get myself a new one.

:chuckle: Yeah, for me it's always been function over fashion, and that thing is warm!
I actually got mine at the military surplus store in Spokane.. I love that place.
