Ok so I've put my daughter in every year I don't know anything about moose or hunting them. She has four points this year then one more to go.looking for a little advive scouting is out due to the distance.I would gladly give some meat away if she gets one and could return the favor on elk.don't even know the best area to put in for.she had moose for the first time last weekend and it is now her favorite.thanks
-
I'm confused....are you anticipating that she will surely be drawn for Moose this year or what? Are you just looking for areas to put in for the youth hunt?
-
I'd worry about scouting once she draws. An awesome family camping trip could make for some great scouting time.
-
Jason. You're box is full. I can't respond to your PM.

Not anticipating more like hoping.and yes looking for best area .I went with her this year to republic for her whitetail and she was succesful (thanks campmeat).two years ago to winthrop for her mulie.she's been really lucky at drawing tags hoping for elk, springbear and moose this year just trying to start my homework early.its hard to keep the girls involved but she is like a little eva shockey want to hunt everything and I want to keep things exciting for her.

Well I drew Selkirk Mountains - Unite # 113 for my bull moose in 2011. I really only know that area. A youth moose tag only allows a cow to be harvested...correct?

I really hope my niece gets drawn, This is her last year in the youth category. Sucks the youth cant roll over their points if they never get drawn.
Wish you luck let us know if she gets drawn.

Tagging.
My son has 4 points and 4 more years to put in so hopefully we will need this info as well :tup. He is finally growing so we may actually start putting in for the draw instead of just points this year.
-
I agree there points should carry over.
-
Points accrued as a youth do roll over; at least in every category except for "youth".
If the state was doing it right, maybe more youth would not be "retiring" with so many points in the youth categories. As it is right now only youth deer offers many hunts for reasonable draw odds. Youth elk and moose are both really long-odds propositions. Don't think it would hurt to throw a few more antlerless tags the kids' way. :twocents:
-
Agreed not just because I have kids but if youth were offered anterlees elk tags in there own category it would help keep them involved. Its already not right that they aren't conidered youth till 18 like most states but afterall it is wa :twocents:
-
I think if she gets drawn you will have no trouble getting her help with the tag ...but with 4 pts your asking a lot ...hope you prove me wrong

mee toobbuddy.

I put in for my buddies kid a few years ago. He had no points and was drawn. I think it was the MT. Spokane area. He was successful, with a huge cow. He also had a friend who was drawn as well. My buddy will be over tomorrow night. You can pm me if you want.

I understsand if you buy regular points as a youth you can carry them over but I feel that if you are never drawn in the youth category you should be able to carry those over as well.. Its hard enough to get drawn as it is. If a youth never gets drawn such as my niece so far all those points are lost. There should be somekind of clause that if you are never drawn and never get a chance to use the youth permits they should be rolled over. Just my :twocents:

If that were the case then kids shouldn't be allowed to also apply in the other moose categories. I think it's fair the way it is. If they want to accumulate points for bull moose, then apply for the regular bull moose permits.
Personally, I don't even feel there should be a separate youth category for moose. I'd rather see those cow moose tags go to seniors, who may have never hunted moose before and may only have a few years left to hunt at all.

Roll them over into a senior category, give them a bonus for living and sticking with Washingtons system all those years.

I would agree with that as long as they had not drawn any washington moose tag in their lifetime. Other than that let the kids have em.

Well even with a few points in all categories we got not selected a little shocked that she didn't drraw a youth deer tag but that the luck of the draw guess will try again next year.
