It's 20.32 and will be the new record.
In what class? 20.32# doesn't even make WA's top weight. Maybe length :dunno: It's a dandy though, for sure.
-
I believe 19.6 is the current state record. This would break it. Sweet fish! Congrats to the man!

WA state record is 19.33# caught by a good friend of ours.
To my knowledge this is the first 20# west of the Rockies

OK, guess my memory isn't so good. Maybe the one I was thinking of was booted because of salt water or disqualified in some way. :dunno: Either way, I apologies for that. Didn't mean to take away from such an awesome fish.
-
That didnt take long to get out.
-
It was only a matter of time. Nice fish!
-
I caught one like that.
In my dreams.
-
That's a piggy!!! When and where was it caught????

You're probably thinking of the Ed Iman fish that never actually existed.

Gettin rusty old man.
Just plain broken the past few days. I've slept 14 of the past 24 hours. Guess the IRS audit had me more stressed than I thought. I think I could still sleep another 8 easy. Maybe I need to get out and do some fishing :chuckle:
-
thats awesome..
-
 wow. congrats to the angler!
-
What a toad.
-
I thought the record was bigger also & remember a 28lber caught in a net years ago in the Columbia.
-
That's a pig! Ive read stories the last couple years that the record will be broken and most likely not last long.
Do the big walleye eat as good as the Lil guys?
-
Tell ur dad congrats. What was the length? I knew the 20# mark would get broken. Very impressive.
Was this in the tourney?
-
Nice eye Congrats!
-
awesome fish, congrats to him
-
Congrats to the fishermen. nice eye!

There was but net fishing does not count for records.

Looks like a Lake Washington walleye???? Correct me if I'm wrong???
-
congrats on a nice fish
-
Congratulations to your father. Beautiful fish!

Looks like a Lake Washington walleye???? Correct me if I'm wrong???
I know they've netted a few over the last decade, and a kid caught one off the dock at Coulon park a few years ago, but there is no fishable population of walleye in Lake Washington. I would love to be proven wrong on that, tho. Save me a lot of gas money...
This new record is a Columbia River fish.

Lake Washington is a super sleeper fishery for the EYEs........ Seems the Columbia is over rated... One big fish is caught every once in a while and then the whole country is there fishing... Its just like the TRIPOD BURN buck... There's big eyes and bucks in lots of places...
-
I'm very interested in the Lake Washington walleye stories. I need to correct myself, the last walleye caught out of there that I'm aware of was off of Coleman point, not coulon park, in Jan of 2010. Given the guys I fish with, and knowing one of them (longtime walleye tournament angler) has pounded Lake Washington trying for walleye himself, I tend to believe if there were a fishable population there we would have heard about it by now and the WDFW would be falling all over themselves to eradicate them. Again, would love to be proven wrong, but I think the bucket biologists just haven't made enough trips yet.
The Columbia is home to a world-class walleye fishery, and certain sections of the river have long been known to pump out solid numbers of large fish every year. It's just that the fish under about 18#'s arent really newsworthy to the masses any more, and you have to be on your game to get one. The guys that can get big fish with regularity dont tend to advertise the fact. During this time of year you can fish those areas all weekend for a single bite - but odds are it will be impressive.
John knows the area he was fishing very well. I wouldnt even hazard a guess on how many 10#+ fish he's caught over the years in his spots. It is a lot though. He's put his time in and earned this fish. Couldn't be happier for him, and the state of Washington in general.
-
There was one person in WA that deserved to catch the next record...and he's the one who caught it!!
-
Lake Washington would be a great fishery for walleye but I doubt the state wants them there and put them there.
-
Bonjour ! Has Ed Iman weighed in on the situation yet ? Maybe he is too busy guiding on Lake Washington, I mean considering it is a factory for those goofy looking fish.
But seriously that is an absolutely amazing Walleye that was caught Friday. I am jealous, congrats !
-
That is a great fish! I love walleye fishing, and I'm still trying to break the 10# mark. I had one one a couple years ago but lost it near the boat. I don't know this gentleman but it sounds like he is a real respected man so I am glad that he got the record. Congrats
-
very nice fish.. gotta love walleye fishing.. Ive hooked a few big ones and busted off. just makes me want to fish more in hope's to land a hawg like that.
-
What was the length on the fish ? I have one that was 36 inches long at the taxidermist right now . Did not weigh it. It was a summer fish , so it was not full of eggs.... Man that is a nice 'eye. My guess Umatilla/Irrigon area of the Columbia.
-
:yike: WOW. Incredible fish. Congrats to him.
-
Saw that on Jesse's FB. Making me damn excited to get up there soon. Stole a day from Hedden :chuckle:
-
Outdoor Life Magazine just tweeted the news about the fish.

Record 20-Pound Walleye Caught in Washington State
While fishing the Columbia River last week a Washington angler landed a 20-pound, 5-ounce walleye to break the previous state record. Wildlife officials were quick to confirm the catch. A walleye weighing more than 20…

Great catch! Thanks you for saving the salmon and steelhead from that wolf of the water.
Seriously huh!! Those salmon and steelhead are really taking a beatin in that Hanford reach area and the Wallula pool in general. Only a record run last year and a run of 50% more expected this year. Also, SAR's in the Yakima around 6%...
