Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on using 180 grain Barnes Vortex TSX on Bear. I just purchased a Tikka T3 .300 win mag and thought I'd give this ammo a try. Any Thoughts??

Can't go wrong with Barnes. But, discussing ammo is like taking caliber, beer, and women. Everyone has a different opinion.

Nice combo! Rifle, caliber, bullets! Get yourself a bear!!!
-
I shot both my bears with them last year from my 300 weatherby. They performed flawlessly.
-
Appreciate the feedback!! Dreamenelk, I realize this is a never ending topic, but was just wanting to see if anyone had any experience with that ammo. I'm sure the topic will blow up tomorrow with all types of comments..lol

I have that exact gun nice choice  I tried the barnes but found my gun shot a little tighter groups with the Accubonds, plus I had good expansion and a big exit wound. I have heard good things about the barnes but just haven't killed anything with them yet.

We've shot a lot of barnes 165's out of .30 magnums, a few 180's, "you will do well".

Great ammo and a real super cal. you would be good to go :chuckle:

Them Barnes 168gr tsx bullets scream out of my t3 in 300wsm... Good bullet, ready to feed a bear one or 2 of them this spring :-)
-
If they are anything like the TSX go for it! Link below is a write up I did with 165 gr. TSX

First off I like your choice of rifle I own a tikka t3 lite in 300wsm damn thing kicked like a mule I've never felt a harder hitting recoil, I put a vortex pst 6 x24 on top with dnv rings and took it and had a muzzle break put on her took trigger down to a two lb pull . Took it out Sunday and she is as tame as a 243 and at a 200 yd zero I wound up with under 1/2" Moa with Walmart federal 160 grain factory ammo off of bags. Wow I love tikka. Look out spring bear in 49degrees

Wow same combo for me too! Just bought a T3 in 300 Win for my spring bear hunt in 49DN topped it with a Vari-x III 6.5-20x50mm. I'm having a tough time finding the ammo I want in 180gr. I seen some Barnes TSX 165gr yesterday but passed on them thinking they would be too lite for bear. Sounds like I should go back and pick them up.

I recently put a brake on mine as well, I think my 8 year old could shoot it now! Mine did ok on factory ammo, but hand loads and Accubonds puts 5 shots inside 3/4" at 100.

I have the T3 in .300 WSM and I shoot the 150 gr ttsx's. Killed two Alaskan black bears and two elk with it. I will move up to the 168 gr this season. Good bullet

Good to hear, the ttsx 165gr was all I could find. They Shot well in the Tikka so that's the bullet I'll be using. Seabeck pizza sounds good right now.....

I will be shooting this exact combo this year for bear/deer. Have a break on my tikka though

I used the 180gr tsx with my 300WSM. They shoot great well under 1 moa. Shot a cow elk with them at 240y. Pass through heart , good sxpansion, no blood outside of the animal, complete devastation inside. Couldn't of tracked the animal but wouldn't have needed to either. I've never seen such blood coagulation inside an animal. Anyway, drew Monroe so I'll be shootng them at a bruin hopefully soon!
-
Those of you shooting the 168gr TTSX's out of your .300WSM what is your recipe? I just loaded up some for my Tikka with 65.5 grains of H4350 but haven't had a chance to shoot them yet.

Every rifles sweet spot is different but my rifle loves the accurate magpro with 70grains in 300wsm with federal magnum match grade primers
