Title: Funky Chicken Decoy
Post by: tonymiller7 on March 06, 2014, 02:34:23 PM
Thinking about getting one, anyone have any experience with them?  The videos seem pretty convincing, but then again that's the point.  Just thinking about replacing my current jake deke with one of these.

Thanks!

What's wrong with your current Jake decoy? I have seen the "funky chicken" on TV but I'm not sold. Although I have several DSD's to use. When I'm run and gun hunting I seldom bother with a decoy and wouldn't bother with one of these. I don't think it will make much of a difference over any other Jake decoy. When a tom wants to beat your decoy he'll come over and do it.  :twocents:

My current jake decoy is too large I believe.  I've had jakes run away from it (I'm not too proud to shoot a jake) an they advertise that it won't spook jakes either.  I'm still able to get out a deke or 2 runnin and gunnin, I'm down to try anything that can swing the odds in my favor.

My wife had to have one last year. So I bought her one to try out. Couldn't get a turkey to come within 80 yards of the damn thing. Waste of money IMO.

I think it has more to do with hunting pressure. I've had a bird sprint in the other direction when I gave a call on my box call but I'm not gonna quit using it. I think the best odds come when you are in the right spot with the right bird. My DSD jake is a big decoy and I had a puny jake attacking it for hours on opening morning last year. Point being he was an unpressured bird on opening day. I get the premise that it is supposed to be a nonthreatening decoy but like in fishing, most lures are meant to catch fisherman, not fish.

Cabelas sells the funky chicken in their catalog, they should have it in there store by now. It looks like a head, on top[- of an over inflated extra long neck. It is suppose to represent the final stages of a tom beginning a fight. They stretch their neck out right before they start kicking and wrapping necks. It may work, if used in conjuction next to another tom or jake decoy.

There used to be a dance in the 70's called, " The Funky Chicken ". Wonder if that's where they got the name from ?
