hey guys,
thinking about entering into the wold of archery this year and had a rookie question for you all:
am I allowed to hunt with my bow during the muzzle-loader and modern firearm season(s)? Or am I limited to the archery seasons outlined in the regs?
if I am allowed to hunt the muzzy and rifle seasons; am I governed by those rules/regulations (i.e. any deer, any buck, 3-pt, etc)?
thanks for the intel.

If you have a multi season tag you can hunt archery in all seasons now. If you do not have the multi you have to choose which season you want to hunt. And yes you have to abide by the rules and regulations of each individual hunt. No exceptions do to archery as a choice of weapon.

Of you have a multi season tag you can hunt with archery equipment during all the seasons. If you only have an archery trash you can only hunt archery session with archery equipment. you can also get a mf tag and hunt with archery equipment during the mf season, but only that season.

You can use a bow during rifle/ muzzle loader seasons but you must have a muzzle loader or rifle tag. An you can only hunt that season. An you'd have to go
By that seasons rules an regs. So say you went out during elk rifle season you'd have to have a rifle tag an wear orange just like everyone else. Only way you hunt all 3 seasons is if you have the multi season tag. Then your still limited to 1 kill. But again you still go by the rules for each season / GMU

wow; thanks for the quick responses.
this is interesting… i hunt true costal blacktails and want to hunt the peak of the rut; which I have seen really ramp up the last day of regular season and very beginning of late season (October 31st and Nov 14th).
I need all the help I can with these sneaky buggers; so it sounds like I need to stay in the rifle season… even if I hunt with a bow for man-points.
Do you guys think the low hunt pressure of archery season outweighs hunting the rut with more pumpkins running around in the field?
what are your :twocents:

For the highlighted, there are some quality buck permits available that can get you within those dates.

Not if you are after bucks. Take does away from bowhunters and success rates drop to dismal levels. Take mature bucks only and the success rate is even worse. As a whole late rifle produces the best chances for a mature blacktail buck. If only after meat then yes, archery gives you as good if not better chance.

You can purchase one tag, for any season you'd like to hunt, and hunt in that particular season with either that season's weapon OR a lesser weapon. All other regulations for that particular season will still be in place. In other words, if you purchased a Modern Firearm tag, you could hunt that season with a Rifle, Muzzle Loader or Bow. Even if hunting with a bow, you'd still be required to wear Hunter's Orange.

Archery equip. During a muzzy season? I have always known modern rifle, one could use any weapon that was legal in a particular area. I thought muzzy was muzzy only. Since I bounce between the two choices, could you give me the page# in the regs.
-
It used to be that muzzleloader season was muzzleloader only. It changed a year or two ago so that archery equipment is now legal during the muzzleloader season.

Just read thru last year's regs - Bocat's right. It used to be muzzy only during muzzy season. Didn't 'make any sense but that's how it was.

Ok ok ok...
So I put in for multi-season tag... And obviously was selected.
Does this mean I can hunt all three seasons with my rifle??
Or all three with my bow??
I don't have a muzzy.
While abiding by the specific seasons rules/regulations...
Wish there was a Wa hunting regs for dummies book.

You can only use your rifle during modern, you can use a muzzy during muzzy and/or modern, you can use a bow during archery, muzzy and/or modern.

But you'd still need the muzzy tag if you wanted to hunt that season right? Then you could hunt with either muzzy or bow. But the archery tag is only good during archery season.

Correct, unless holding the Multi-season deer permit/tag.
