Title: Which tether to buy for range finder?
Post by: trophyhunt on March 07, 2014, 02:51:58 PM
I'm looking for ideas on which tether system to buy for my range finder, one that isn't a piece of crap. You guys have any recommendations?  Thanks.  I have an older Leica 900 that works great but it's more for rifle.  Might sell it to buy a more friendly, smaller range finder for bow.  But just contemplating at this point, love my Leica.

You bow hunters don't use tethers?

This guys makes a tether and holder that's pretty nifty. The tether I saw demonstrated at the outdoor show and liked it but when with the holder instead

i saw that stuff at the sportsman show and did like it, just wasn't sure if the magnets would mess with GPS ?  I'm looking for the tether system that would allow me to drop a range finder in the heat of battle.  Thanks

I have the nikon retractable tether, a little noisier than I'd like but it works.

there was a guy on archery talk that made one out of parachute cord.  it was more of a shoulder strap.  pretty neat

Same here, great idea, execution could have been better, particularly in the noise dept. With a little caution it does work pretty well though.

I just use the tether that came with my Leica.

It sure has a brighter optic than most other rangefinders out there, such as my buddy's Nikon. However, I noticed that his Nikon would range some objects that my Leica didn't want to return a distance on.

I just run my Crooked Horn Outfitters range finder holder.  It has a clip so i wouldn't go running through the jungle with it.  I had no problems this year and it got plenty of work.

I've been thinking of giving this one a try.  Right now a I just loop the cord to my shoulder strap on my pack.  It works okay, but I'm not enthralled with the set up.
