Title: Hogg Father is AWESOME!
Post by: Vo2max on March 11, 2014, 09:06:09 PM
After much deliberation I decided to purchase the more expensive Spott Hogg Hogg Father... Incredible! I'm still dialing it in a bit but first time out shooting it I'm hitting longer distance shots with more confidence and greater accuracy. Just thought I'd put that out there for anyone interested.

Cheers,

Erik

thas is an awsome site.  i ended up getting the new tommy hogg 5 pin site.  just waiting for my arrows to be shipped. hopefully will be dialing my new strothers wrath in next week.  have fun with the site.  the reps from spott hogg are doing some crazy shots at the range with these sites.  should be alot of fun.

I've got a Tommy and a Boss as well as a couple other Hoggs.  I really like every one of them.  Considering selling the Boss and Tommy and getting the Father. Only reason is its lighter weight. The Tommy and Boss preform flawlessly and this is just another "want", not "need".  Makes fun shooting much funner.

This is my first time shooting a single pin site with this much adjustability and all the while seemingly being bomb proof. No rattling at all thus far. Just have to make sure dovetail is adjusted with the set screw tightened down in one of the grooves just right (in my experience).

I will admit that having a 2nd and third axis is new to me for sure and I'm digging it BUT I may need the help of a shop to lazer center the site with the arrow etc to find the bow's center shot.

The single pin sight has been a huge game changer for me... I would get anxious looking at my 5pin sight and with the Hogg Father single pin I'm staying mor relaxed. We'll see what happens come hunting season and if I can remember to change the range I'll be good :)

That was my problem with a one pin. They really help the concentration level for accuracy and in my backyard I was shootin like a pro, but adding another step for range adjustment in a hunting situation made me go back to a fixed multi pin. Maybe one day ill try the tommy.

I am running the Hogg Father as well. Absolutely love it and wouldn't consider going back to a multi pin sight. Here's a group from last weekend at 127 yards, the sight is money.

I run a .010" single red pin. At that distance it's about that same size as that heart painted on the target

I shot a three pin slider for years.  I felt it was the best of both worlds.  Less clutter, less anxiety, 30, 40 & 50. Then with a slight adjustment I could dial in the 30 for shooting a grouses head at 20 or dial the 50 out to 140 yards for that long range bunny!  You can get just about any pin configuration you want with the 'Father.  Great products!  Just don't expect to be treated like a human being if you run into the Hogg boys at a show ;)

Just for fun I looked up that sight and found the price to be in excess of $300.  For a sight!  Holy crap, does it come with a jar of Grey Poupon? :o

When you pay $1,400 for a Hoyt, why not put a $349.00 sight on it too!  If you spread out the purchase of that bow in payments that's only $200 per month until it's considered "out dated" technology :chuckle:

No sorry, it does come with a 4-pack sampler, including a coarse French, standard yellow, Bavarian sweet and Dijon.

On a more serious note - wow that's a lot of money!  For $150 you can get a great sight   :dunno:

It's all relative. It depends how much performance you demand of your equipment. Are you they type of archer that shoots their bow from august-September and doesn't see the useful justification in a top of the line sight? Or do you shoot every day and demand your set up to be micro adjustable in ways most people will never consider useful?

I love the Hogg Father for its adjustability and durability.

Sure, there are other sights that are durable. But you won't be able to dial it for 78.5 yards. You'll be trying to split your 70 and 80 yard pins and hoping it's close. In a hunting application, this would probably work just fine to be able to kill. Also, name a sight that gives your repeatable (accurate) results at ranges past 100 yards. For me, that's worth the money. Practicing at 130 yards, makes a 70 yard shot, a chip shot. My confidence under 80-90 yards is 95% that I can make a kill shot on any big game animal, because my sight allows me to practice at much farther distances. Is that kind of confidence in your equipment worth $350 to you? Some people yes, others no.

I'm certain I'll never pay that kind of money for a bow accessory but it would be fun to try out that level of equipment just to see what I'm missing.

I'll bet you $349.95 + shipping I'll never buy it.  When I win that bet I'll give that money to my wife and have her buy it for me. :chuckle:

I have been thinking about buying the tommy Hogg for a while now and i will have that site or a site similar to that someday. My hunting partner just bought the site and I can't wait to try it out. If it performs like I hear then ill probably be purchasing it sooner then I anticipated.

Just figured out that my draw is a bit longer than I had been fitted for in the past... 6'6" win span finger too to finger too so no wonder I was super inconsistent with my 30" draw Quest G5. Decided against a new Elite Energy 35 in favor of the new Hoyt Faktor Turbo which should arrive next week. That Hogg father should partner well on the new rig!

Reasoning behind getting the hogg father for me: 1) durability, 2) Single pin .010, 3) adjustability, 4) quality, 5) long dovetail bar which gives you that competition archery feel 6) I used to spend all of my cash on triathlon gear... A bike would run me $4000, wheels at $1500 so a bow and sight for $1350 is chump change :)... Don't tell my wife!

Actually I shoot 11 months out of the year and I haven't seen the need for an adjustable sight in a hunting situation yet.  If the range is 68.5 or 78.5, I adjust where I hold my pins and so far it's worked just fine.

Something I'm missing here?  No I don't shoot 130 yards so maybe that's it.  I've shot out to 90-100 lots of times and out to 80 every time nearly but I just use a 5-pin sight and I know where the arrow is going at what distance without having to adjust my sight

I shot the sureloc moveable sight for years. I was dared to move up to the pins division at an IBO. I did and my x count averaged 25-30 X's on a 40 traget course. With shots out to 80 yds. You can get very comfortable with stacking pins. No real need for a movable sight for a hunting situation IMO. For year round practice it is fun and very precise.

I have never been treated badly by Gabe or any other one of the HOGG boys at shoots or shows. They have alway been very helpful and have been willing to service any need I have had. Great sight . you would not be disspointed.
