Hey do you guys remember a couple years ago, there was this company that used to make great smokeless powder. I wonder if they are still making powder... I think their name was hodgdons? I don't remember, its been so long since ive seen their product on the shelves. Maybe they got in trouble for making military style assault powder.
Any leads on H4831 SC or H1000?
-
Yup, they still make it, but it's hard to come by these days. :'(

H4831 has been showing up at Sportsman's Warehouse occasionally but it sells out quick. Huntnphool picked up two pounds for me last week at the Federal Way store. It was the last two that they had. I've been checking gunbot and I haven't seen H1000 much at all. Cabelas seems to have IMR4350 and IMR7828 in stock all the time. A powder that Sportsmans Warehouse has right now is Accurate Mag Pro and I was thinking of trying that, until I got the 4831. It's similar in burning speed to 4831, and it even costs less ($24.99/lb.)

Wal-Mart was carrying the H1000 last fall
-
general store in Spokane had lots of H4831SC the last time I was in there. not much else but they had plenty of that powder
-
I know where there was a lot of H1000 on a shelf a few days ago if anyone needs it....Let me know, if it is still there I can pick up a couple pounds for someone.

I could use some is it here in town?

They are one of the biggest powder manufacturers now. They own IMR and Winchester powders, too.
-
If I'm not mistaken Hogdon doesn't manufacture any powder, they spec it and purchase it from manufactures or import it for resale.
-
Another powder that seems impossible to find is CFE 223. It is a fairly new powder and from looking in the Hodgdon reloading manual, it seems really good in any 308 based cartridge. I'd like to try it in the 7-08.

You are probably right. H might make a few powders, but most powder nowadays is made in Australia, Sweden, or some European country and imported. It usually tells on the container where it was made. :dunno:

I find Hodgdons in local gun shops easier than the major stores. I've actually never had a difficult time finding it at all. Call around.

Yes, It's a fairly new powder developed for the military to cut down on the copper fouling in the barrels. According to the Hodgdons website, they came out with a version of it for pistols, too.

I was being a little Facetious, I know who they are. But I cannot find Powder anywhere, specifically those powders. I can find some IMR 4350, but I cannot find the Hodgdons stuff.
Hodgdon powder are like Unicorns right now, otherwise known as true spikes.

The most powder I've seen lately was at Two Rivers in Cle Elum. If you live anywhere near there, try him! He may have what you want.

Might be...right across the side street from Owens Meats? Only been there once, and my memory isn't as good as it used to be! :chuckle: :dunno:
