This is how we setup last year for my first turkey hunt in the tucannon river area in S.E. Washington. It was not what I had anticipated to be honest. I was very surprised how intelligent the birds seemed. We did manage to call a bird in , but not close enough.
Every time I see these pics of my first hunt , even though no successful .
It gets my blood pumping when I think about going out there again for. My second
Season. This year I'm headed to the N.E corner to colville area .

I couldn't agree with turkey dancer more about wary -vs- intelligent.
I always struggled with turkeys until a good turkey hunter told me, "It's easier to call a turkey to a place they want to go than to call a turkey to a place you want them to go." After that I started looking at my setups a lot different, and turkeys started becoming a lot less intelligent.

Sorry I have no pictures of my setup, but to me yours looks nice. Is your blind against foliage or out in the field? I haven't ever had much luck on public land getting them out in the wide open.

Exactly .... easiest way to call a bird is in the direction he wants to go .... in fact, you may not have to even call. If you've done your scouting, setup between the roost tree and where they go to feed/breed/ strut/ etc. Also do not over call ... let him gobble 2 or 3 times to your every call. Take his temperature to see if you should be calling really soft or louder ... I usually get softer and less frequent with my calling as he's coming in .... use his natural curiosity and sex drive against him. I also usually won't use dekes early in the season, but they can work really good later on.

Based on your pics....Maybe he was dressed as a Bat for camouflage? Never know what goes through a Turkey hunters mind.
