Post by: birdblastinboaz on March 14, 2014, 09:31:59 PM
1st year going for Spring Turkey (any Turkey for that matter). Was thinking of picking up a  "Montana Spring Fling Turkey" Decoy...anyone ever use this model on east side..?Just curious about durability and what to expect. Any tips are appreciated. Thanks.

I have a couple of them. Very easy to carry. Great graphics. That being said, they are pain to fold back up. Also, They don't have the "3-D" effect that most decoys do. Personally, I rarely use decoys. I'm sure it is something I am doing wrong with setting them up, but I have had much better luck without decoys. If you look further down in the Turkey section of this forum I believe there is a topic about decoy set ups. It may be helpful. Good luck to you. Exactly one month to go.........

lots of decent decoys out there, for the money, I like the looks of the new HS strut decoys.

That being said, decoys are not required for turkey hunting, and in fact, I kill more birds without them that with them.  About the only time I use decoys is when I bowhunt them.

Have yet to kill an ol Tom using a decoy. You don't have to have one to kill a bird, you just have to coax them in close enuff to get a good shot.

Usually I won't use decoys until later in the season ... they work better after the birds have been repeatedly bumped and shot at ... they become super-wary and then they want to see what they are hearing before commiting.    :twocents:
