Took the daughters boyfriend out for deer today, drove to Winston Camp 9 area, doubling as a elk scouting trip, 3 deer seen thats it for the day, no shots to be had, 0 elk, 0 grouse, lots of guys.
Better luck when we leave for elk I hope, just need to decide where, Winston, Lewis river or Williams creek

I just spent a couple of hours in GMU 460. Saw a large cougar. Didn't have time to and wasn't close enough for a shot.

Awesome...too bad you didn't get a shot.  It just amazes me how many folks are seeing cats this year, or getting them on their trail cams.

Madmax - ya had to drive right by my camp to get to Camp 9. Don't worry, we didn't any elk either and two of us rode over 8 miles this morning. Up there for two days and the only bugles we heard were from guys. We did see a couple deer, a couple coyotes and a bobcat.

I am not sure if you can camp on PB or not. We had a red toyota 4x4 and a black dodge 4x4.

I don't thank Port Blakely allows camping on there land.  Let me know if they tell you otherwise.

Was out since Thursday scouting.  Seen some nice bulls. Even saw a nice 5pt take a couple cows from a small 4pt.  Friday night saw another nice 5pt bull, ready for elk season to start. Also saw a nice 3 or 4 pt buck up high, wishin i would've backpacked up on the ridge.  Opening morning hiked in 2 miles to a spot i have seen numerous bucks in the past.  When I got close, on the opposite Mountain I spotted a group of four bucks, hard to tell if any where bigger than 2pts, all still in velvet. When i finally got to the spot, I jumped a spike and a doe.  When I started up the hillside another deer was off to my snorting, didn't see it.  No other deer in this bowl probably due to a couple bear hunters doing some calling.  Checked out a couple  of my other areas over the rest of the weekend, saw lots of elk and people (berry pickers and weekend campers). Can't wait til next weekend.

Chased deer down around washtucna in the drylands all weekend, saw lots of legal bucks but passed up shots on most of em, i still wish i couldve gotten closer to the one 3x2 i saw he was about 28 wide and probably at least 26 tall, his fork side was huge. ended today by blowing a stalk on a nice 4 point about 24 wide and just as tall

Searched for three days up and down Lake Chelan this last weekend.  Nothing but Bighorn Sheep.  Too early and too hot I guess...

Im having the same troubles deciding which area to go to. I have talked to a couple of people and sounds like the Winston and Ryderwood units are good. Have not heard anything from people about the coast...lots of people and im really not interested in dealing with crowds. Anyone hunted the high elevations in the Lewis River unit?

Well I am stumped. I had a bunch of deer sign in and around where I live. Then as of yesterday all the sign disappeared. Went out today and wandered down the hillside to the lake and back up again, over and around the gullies etc. Saw THREE individual deer tracks!!! Before the snow we had deer in the yard! and now el-Zippo!!! Any suggestions.
(where I grew up if it was snowing I knew I'd be successful 'cause the deer would be moving from the hardwood to the swamps)
