I'm wanting to get new duck dekes for this next season and I've narrowed it down to either the avain x or Dakota. What ones would you get and why? Thanks
-
i dont know sqaut about dekes, but i would go with the dakota  only cause its my sons name :chuckle:
-
I have heard nothing but good things about either of those if your willing to spend the cash i dont think you could go wrong with either
-
i Have both decoys and i love the looks on the dakotas better.. especially the flocked heads.. both hold up great but the flocking does peel off if you dont idividually bag them.. avian x also look great and paint is strong. so if your rough on decoys i would go with the avian x if you want to always bag your decoys in slotted bags i would get dakotas.. oh and the dakotas are heavy so if your walking in a ways they do get heavy.. all in all both are great.. dakotas are a hard body and the avians have a softer body which is also a great feature..

If you can afford it, I would go with the Dave Smith Decoys. DSD's. If you have a good set up, hide and are where there is traffic the DSD finish the birds very well.

Thanks everyone. I really was set on buying the Dakotas but since I ran across the avain x decoys I think I may get these I really like the looks of them . The Dakotas flocking just has me kind of uncertain...

Flocked replacement heads arent much for the dakotas. I do know that the dakotas move on the water better than anything I have ever hunted over. With almost no wind they are moving around. Slot bag the dakotas, and you will be fine.

well since DSD hasn't come out with there duck decoys yet your out of luck there.
But if your serious about a great investment and want a decoy that will hold paint and is durable go with Avian X my team and I have 13 dz avian x mallards and they flat out get it done.
you be the judge

That avian x hen looks way better then the Dakota. I really think I'm going to get the avains. I think that the Dakotas would be a great decoy if they were not as heavy as they are since I normally walk in quite a ways in. And I really don't want to do the slotted bag thing with them either. I'm going to wait till the Oregon waterfowl festival in June to make my purchase though. Hoping I can find a good deal down there. Thank you all for the help I really appreciate the help.

Try tangle-free much Cheeper will kill ducks just as well.

I'd go with the green head gear pro grades or January mallards. They've held up the best for paint then any other decoys me and my buddies have owned one of the dozen is 5 yrs old an still looks brand new just got to take care of them like you do with any decoy. :twocents:

I hunt over ghg and or dakotas, both decoy birds. Seems like late in the season the dakotas work better. Mine are 3 years old and are in bags. I haven’t had any paint chip or flock wear off. The downside is that they are heavy. The avian x looks nice though I have never hunted over them.

just go with GHG

:yeah:

the Avian X decoys look great and I am going to pick up a few dozen of them but GHG does the job just fine. I hunted with a guide and he had these goose decoys that were rubber but super realistic looking. I think they were DSD but am not sure.
