We got tag #2 but she's too tired to go out, "one bird in one day is good enough" she said, :chuckle: so I well try and put one to bed tonight to go after in the morning.

Nice ... Good idea about a tag for tomorrow ... she looks very happy

If she can get out of bed this morning we will give it another try. I watched a flock fly up last night, but they are on property we don't have permission to hunt on. Maybe we can pull the tom loose or the hens w/him in toe. They are a long way off, but worth a try.

Waiting for the update Ben....how did it go :dunno: I bet it was a good morning either way .

I had a great first time turkey hunting with my last Daughter at home. We put the turkeys to bed the night before and put out a ground blind. We didn’t think they would come our way because they gobbled their heads off, but once out of the tree they quite gobbling and we didn’t hear any hens so we thought they went the other way. After a while we saw turkeys coming down the hill. Right to the decoys, they looked like hens. But by the time they passed right in from of us we saw little beards. Couldn’t move to shoot, so after they passed I hammered the box call. They would gobble at each call. Then we heard gobbles up the ridge and more birds came down. We could see they were jakes w/4 to 5” beards. I call these super jakes. They came by, she was ready, but they were walking and wouldn’t stop, so I hammered the box call, each time they would stop and gobble. About the 4th or 5th time of me telling her to shoot she did. 15 yds. She said every time I told her to shoot it was a bad shot or they were lined up. She told me I didn't need to do that, she knows how to hunt. She’s killed 3 bucks and 3 does. I guess I was a little excided.
The next day we called at a flock out in a field about 800yds away, one big tom in the bunch with hens and jakes. They were moving south to north, and then 5 or 6 broke off and started our way. There was one hen pushing the flock our way. Then out of nowhere a coyote jumped the flock. They flew into the tree tops. We waited them out and I made calls every so often. The tom would gobble back. After they pitched down the breeding started. After most if not all the hens got bread 10 came right to us and walked by at 6 yds. Then 12 jakes w/very small beards walked by. After the big tom walked out of site below us I started calling, he would gobble at each call, he gobbled and walked by at 15 yds, Carmen was ready but there was too much brush in the way for a shot. He did the gobble and walk the other way up the ridge thing. If you have ever hunted turkeys you know what I’m talking about. That afternoon we had hens little jakes right on top of us. We couldn't move and the mosquitoes were eating us alive. All in all, my daughter got a good taste of turkey hunting. She is hooked. I can’t wait for season to open to take her out again.
The bird she got didn't trip the camera. These were the little jakes.

Those are some real good times to here about! We hunted hard all weekend with the nephew and 11yr old niece. Her first hunt. Saturday we called in a whole flock with 15 Jakes two long beards and some hens. Still can't believe they could not get a shot at any of them??????? Sunday niece and bro in law called in two super Jakes and she missed twice..... Turkey Fever????? :chuckle: A couple other birds came by me and nephew but out of range...... Great times for sure! Lesson learned is that's why its called hunting and not killin!!! Lots of educated birds that's for sure.... :chuckle:

Sounds like some fun times! Makes me wish I knew a youth to take out and mentor!
