Title: Hunting Mentor
Post by: huntingdog16 on March 31, 2014, 02:12:26 PM: I was wondering if anyone would be willing to mentor a newbee on hunting this year. I tried going out hunitng last year but was never able to due to the fact that I am still in High School. But this year I will be graduating and will definitely have time to be able to hunt this year. I am willing to travel anywhere within the state. I was hoping that it would be a deer hunt. I live in Skagit County. Thank You

Post by: jackmaster on March 31, 2014, 02:19:03 PM: i am sure you will find someone kid, i would step up but i already take my daughter and another newb, its a blast, you wont be disapointed no matter what, i assume you drive and have reliable transportation? burlington is a ways away from graham but if noone helps you i can take you out and show you a few spots that you can make your own and they have plenty of deer in there you just gotta want to hunt thick brush and nasty weather without getting discouraged :tup:

She is determined to take her first deer with her bow. It can be very frustrating, I've learned, taking a newbie hunting. I take my hunting very seriously and it can be a struggle at times to keep my sanity lol. Who ever you hunt with dont loose hope or your motivation. You have alot to learn but that learning curve never stops. I'd recomend spending your free time in the woods. This is your classroom. Longer your there the more you'll learn. Ask as many Q's as you can come up with and let your young mind work for you.

Post by: Skyvalhunter on April 01, 2014, 04:36:42 PM: Hunting dog, you should hit up one of the hunters on here from Skagit country. They should be able to help you out. I understand it's tough getting started and finding someone. I am thankful to have a dad that steered me in that direction. Even now I haven't been able to locate a partner(s) to go out of state, places like AK, etc. I wouldn't advise going alone either. If you haven't taken your hunters safety class you should start there. A lot of good mentors are instructors in the hunters safety classes. Good luck to you and keep us informed.

And go to the meetings and shoots and I m sure you will find someone to to help you out . If you are limited on funds buy a used bow. 2 r 3 yrs old check out the archery shops .leave a note

and you will be in for a wild ride and some crazy stories, make sure you pack some big lumber in case you get attacked :chuckle: :chuckle: seriously though you should take him up on his offer :tup:
