I'm pretty sure I have the Mother of all skunks on me this year?!! :yike: :yike: :peep:
This has been the single worst start to a largemouth season I have had since I bought my bass boat in 1999! :bash:
I've had ONE confirmed bite in 6 trips so far this season on 5 different lakes.... fortunately (that's sad) I have to work the next 6 days, maybe that will buy some time for things to heat up? Or maybe Mama Skunk will get bored and go reside in someone else's boat for a while? :chuckle: Might be time to make a sacrifice to the fishing gods??? OR maybe I should interrogate my best friend and make sure he didn't pee in my tackle box this past off season? Something just isn't right??
Anybody have any fishing superstitions they obey year after year? I always have to buy a brand new bag of David sunflower seeds at the beginning of every season.
-
That sucks man, I've been there too :dunno: you know it's gonna happen!!! Persistence out weighs resistance .....keep chucking along and give em hell. :dunno:

I've had those seasons as well. Try not to get too superstitious, it'll just make you crazier. I know many guides that do not allow bananas on board. And then, I know several that will set one on the boat console to stir things up a bit and they have great luck. I'm not admitting that when I leave the marina slip I turn the boat counter clockwise instead of the easier clockwise spin.......me superstitious? When I have a dry spell, either hunting or fishing, I stop trying so hard and try to have fun. Good luck.
-
I forgot. Those cards with the gold hooks that Eagle Claw used to give away? Labeled "good luck hook"? Yeah, I do have a couple of those. Heading out to the lawn to find a 4 leaf clover before it rains now.
-
Sounds like my luck. Try fishing for trout and you will probably catch a largemouth (if you're luck is similar to mine)
-
I only consider it a curse if everyone around me is catching fish and I'm not. Seen lots of superstitions back when I ran a charter boat, lots of guys from the east coast would throw coins overboard to appease the fish gods (one guy, somewhat drunk, threw his car keys overboard by mistake-I thought it was pretty funny, but he didn't). Seems to be like a baseball player in a hitting slump, sometimes you just have to play through it.
-
Well, If I was recently married and couldn't catch any largemouth, I wouldn't be too worried about it......
-
Wash the boat, put new zinc strips on, and when you get up to leave in the morning, get a little from the wife, give the dog a slice of bologna, smack the son upside the head for the wrong doings he might be thinking about, kiss the daughter on the cheek and tell her all boys are rotten pieces of garbage, have a cup of coffee pack in a big ole chew and all will be great in the fishn world, and even if ya dont catch fish atleast you had an awesome morning... good luck..
-
I heard Hawg Quest is headed up to some lake near B'ham this weekend for some largemouth filming. Heard a rumor of a 5.8 greenie caught last weekend.
Now the face of the dam at P'holes is starting to produce bronze backs. I know of 2 over 5 so far.

Im pretty sure I just wet myself, :chuckle: :chuckle: Thats one of the best morning rituals Ive ever heard of. It hit home though, I also have a Daughter 9,son 5, married 15 years and a boxer named Oscar,. Ive completed everything on that list, except for the son part, he still pretty much innocent at his age, but I see some storms coming....Thanks again, I needed that laugh today, much appreciated.. Jackmaster

It's always fun! and I'm not superstitious as much as ceremonial :chuckle:

No kidding! Ha ha

That's funny! I fully intend to play through it!

Washed the boat, wife's at work so I let the dog lick my face, bologna gives him gas, the son is in North Carolina (Army), step-daughter so a high five and she knows, don't drink coffee so Pepsi will have to do, don't chew that's what the sunflower seeds are for! They are always great trips

5lb bronzies are nice but I'm addicted to that GREEN this time of year!
Thanks for all the encouragement guys!!! Of course the post was sarcastic, I enjoy every trip, just can't put a finger on this year so far? It will change and I will get mine it's just that by now I'm usually well into double digits with several over 5lbs??!! It's been baffling :dunno: Still leaning towards the "pee in the tackle box scenario" LOL.

The Barometer is screwed up fish it on the rise.....And it from the sounds of it Hawg Quest must be headed up to pound Terrell.

Terrell was my thought as well.... Cool. That lake should go off here any day?! Unless I'm on it :lol4:
I have 3 days off next week and have made the announcement to my wife that I will launch my boat Tuesday and will not leave the water until Mr. Skunk is dead :beatdeadhorse: <--- pretend it's a skunk :chuckle:
I can't wait, even with all the butt kicking's so far this year I can't not LOVE this sport!

But this time it was the backside of the pants that got wet! :yike:

Most lakes are still fairly cold, The small mouths are starting to venture into the weed beds tho 3-4 ft range. After Easter it should be game on for buckets

The two best largemouth trips in my 30+ years of bass fishing Washington occurred in March in sub 50 degree water. April is nice but the males get more active and while numbers may increase in my opinion the size average goes down. Nope, someone put bad juju on my fishing gear! :chuckle:
-
Ran back up to Terrell in Ferndale this morning and while the weather took an outright nose dive I was still happy to have a day off and to be on the water again! First 3 hours was searching and switching techniques trying to figure out the puzzle? Got the first hit messing around with a frog rig, he missed it but told me he was in 2 feet of water near newly emergent lily pads. Had another miss on the frog so I switched my jig and flipping rig over to a similar color and boated two flipping the outside edge of reeds in about 2-3'. Only caught 2 small ones but the skunk is officially GONE for 2014!

Finally......I bet Jeff was getting tired of you moping around the office. Looks like you kinda got your mojo back, but ya better start stepping up your game if you are going to be fishing NW this year.

It's a start at least :chuckle:
Not sure who Jeff is? Don't work in an office and if 'NW' refers to a tournament series or event I don't do that either, just love the sport

:yeah:
I think he had you mistaken for me.. LOL.
and if I were you I would tell him to mind his own business :chuckle:

:lol4: No worries. Makes sense now. Be glad you're not me....or you would have gotten skunked again today and somehow lost a $160 Shimano Crucial with a $75 Shimano reel attached :bash: :bash: :bash: Not sure what happened? After sitting down to retie a couple rods I stood up and :dunno: one rod less on the deck??? :bash: :bash: :bash: It probably got tired of the lack of action this year and drowned itself?!! You know your having a bad year fishing when your gear gets suicidal :yike: :'( :bash:  :cryriver:
-
Well, I have seen that happen 2 times on my buddies boat. 2 rods just seem to jump off the deck and leap into the water when the boat is at a high rate of speed......tried to catch it but I was just hanging onto the grab bars. Both spinning rods, and one had less than a dozen casts on it.

Ouch! My favorite is when you're on em and go to pick up a rod and fail to realize it slid under the cleat...SNAP! That move has cost me two over the years :bash: I don't know what happened with this one? I can only imagine the tip got into the water somehow and caught enough resistance that it just quietly cantilevered over the edge and sank silently into the abyss? :dunno: Oh well, life goes on....nothing a trip to the local Cabelas couldn't fix ($240 later). If I didn't need it for this weekend I would have ordered it from someone else as I am burned out on Cabelas and their crap selection :bash:

I actually have not been down there in a long time. Bought some reels from Limit Out, and although they do not have a huge selection, what they do have is nice stuff.

I would give anything for Sportsman's Warehouse to move back in to Burlington! I miss that place tremendously :'(
I'm holding out hope for the Bass Pro Sops in Tacoma but I am afraid they will be another Cabelas boutique store all about the ambiance and not the selection. :bash:
