just curious how much you guys/gals would charge for a full mount coyote and whats the wait time on one? you can pm me if youd like
-
call mike at natures way taxi. He does all my stuff. Does a awesome job..
-
I looked into that one time 10 years ago or so. It was beyond what my family could afford at that time. I was asking about a fox, but the canine thing was the problem. It's not easy to do them, apparently. It would be in the $650 neighborhood to do a fox.
-
Call rick at ceder river taxidermy
-
hit up Black Ghost on here, at Bear Den in Tumwater
-
I am going to do a "howling Dog" shoulder pedestal mount in the next few years and it is running about $600. I imagine a full mount with any scenery would run more than the $600.... :twocents:
I think if done right they are beautiful mounts.
-
Well I only take my work to Rainer taxidermy I've known Zach since I was born but just curious what others pay
-
Does Michelle Nelson do coyotes?
-
-
Sorry I wouldn't trust anyone but zach lol especially her I've read to much negative stuff.

So your not looking for someone else to do it? So Zach at Rainier is going to do it, you just want to see if his price and leadtime are comparable to others? If you are comfortable and trust that he will do a good job I don't think the cost or the timeframe should matter. Quality and preserving the animal as I remember it is most important to me personally.

Why not just call your guy and ask him how much?

I'd guess that he already knows.
I think he was just mining for other pricing/turnaround to see if his only does his work, known since birth and only trusted taxi was dinging him on price and time frame. :chuckle:
-
Cost me about 100 bucks for the form/eyes/tanning/ etc. Then I turned around and turned it into the most realistic 3d target a guy could own. :chuckle:
-
Should be about in the 900-1000 range for a lifesize without too much basework. (the serious answer)
-
Bone that was to funny. :yike:
-
I was just curious bone cuz every place I have talked to says like a couple hundred more than Zach charges and I just figures if I came straight out and asked if the taxis on here were more expensive they might not reply lol
so I had to play it out lol.
-
They didn't reply anyway.

One did, but for some reason it is in the recycle.

Tough crowd

No you didn't have to play it out. You chose to play it out.
If you wanted to compare what Taxidermists are charging go look at there websites. A lot of them have prices on them.
If you think your fooling any of the Taxidermists on this site your kidding yourself. :chuckle: We do this for a living and we have heard it all. More than likely the reason none of us responded. I couldn't even begin to count how many phone calls I get in a year from people price shopping.
I could care less what other Taxidermists charge for there work, it does not affect me in the least. I set my prices based on the cost of the materials I use, tanning, my experience, and my quality of work. I am $750 for a Life-Size Coyote with a closed mouth on a basic base. Open Mouth and special poses are extra.

I don't know if I buy that. More than a couple times you have told me you have to raise your rates just because another taxi did. :dunno:
-
I'm curious to know how one establishes a price for "my quality of work" without knowing what others in the same industry charge. Is there a standard taxidermist price list for quality?
-
Nope. Not bitter.
BTKR, The only time I remember making a comment about raising my prices because another taxidermist did was after talking to Charlie before he raised his prices the last time. I said I was going to adjust my prices where I was $5 cheaper on everything just screw with him. It was a joke. I've been telling Charlie that for the last 5 years. LOL
-
No. There isn't a standard. I know of a few full time taxidermists still charging $350 for a shoulder mount deer. I know others that charge over $750 a deer head.
-
Oh man I better get some popcorn :chuckle:

Looks like billy caught ya in the chicken coop ;)
-
BTKR hasn't got me caught anywhere.
I don't raise my prices just because the guy down the road does. I re-evaluate my prices atleast once a year when all the Supply companies put out there new catologs and raise there prices, when Tanneries raise the cost of tanning, when shipping prices go up, when utility companies raise there rates, gas goes up, cost of licenses goes up, cost of living goes up, etc. If another taxidermist wanted to know my prices I'd e-mail them my price list.
There have been a few years where the majority of my prices stayed the same.
If I want to know what another taxidermist is charging to do something I'll ask them and they will know who I am. I don't cold call them and pretend to be a potential client and ask about prices like I have had Taxidermists do to me. If a Taxidermist didn't want to tell me, which has never happened, that's there right.
Some people must think that all taxidermists are sworn enemies and that we never talk to each other. :chuckle:

Now that would be a tough one.
A quality taxi can earn and deserve price x, but because they can, it shouldn't mean that the average taxi does.
-
Not quite sure I understand what your saying.
-
Nothing wrong with Royboy asking around for prices regardless of the reason. He does not need a excuse. We all do it all the time, what is the number one thing advertised for any item - The Price!
Way to splash back in the pool.

Its called running a business.. of course everyone wants the cheapest deal they can find but keep in mind YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR .. Just like framing a house ...some contractors charge 3 bucks a foot to frame a house and some charge 5 ...I charge more because I care about my pride and quality ...I make sure every house I build is done the way it was meant to be ....same as a good taxi does with his or her work ...if that helps :dunno: :chuckle:

Exactly!
If you do quality work you can charge top dollar and it is worth every penny. Just because you can charge top dollar does not mean joe blow framer down the road deserves top dollar. He may try, but it doesn't mean eventually it will catch up to him. It pays to shop around, but price shouldn't be the only deciding factor. Due diligence is always in order when spending hard earned money.

Is there a (SHOVEL EMOTICON)??

Not taxidermy but in the fine arts world (which I consider taxi to be an art form) a real common base number to use is $30 hr for those just starting out at pricing. So the stone I have 90 hours into would be about 3000 in a gallery. This is just sort of a base number to consider, you then have an artists reputation and desirability which will change that. This is why a better known but maybe less talented artist can sometimes command a crazy price. It also has a whole lot to do with ones ability to sell themselves. I can sell an artist I believe in but I don't sell myself at all, I just make stuff.

Im not taking much of anything in right now so no quote from me but I can say it wouldn't be cheap because I don't like doing them .
