Our first trip out this spring was out of this world. First drop ,4 fisherman 2 hooks each rod, We brought up 4 lings and 1 halibut. 2 of the lings were over 30 on the same rod. That fishermans first time ling fishing. 3 drifts and we were limited for 7 guys. 14 lings from 25-40 lbs. Headed back in after 2 hours of fishing.
So I will finish this by saying. It was open for deep water lings, It was legal to use 2 hooks. We did release all of the halibut. ( 9 total) No adipose fins, we did use barbed hooks. Even the game warden was exited to check our jumbo lings.

I will have to say, it can't get any better ling fishing than that.

Nice, looks like a decent grade of fish I've been wanting to get out there, probably not till the opener though. 40lbs is a BIG ling anymore, not many can say they've caught one of those. Did you guys just do a deep water ling run or pick up some bass inshore as well?

Saaaweeeeeet!

Them are some toads!!! Nice work!
-
Some nice fish there!

Holy crap man, two big lings on one rod??? That's quite the battle, great day of fishing! What area were you fishing?
-
That's awesome. My wife got a doubler on a pipe jig last year, twin 25's.
-
Looks like EPIC is dialed in for the year. Are you taking charters yet or is it all pre-fishing with friends?? I need to get into some of those magnum lings :)

Thanks for adding that  Now all I require is the coordinates to check if those are OK!
Dude, NICE ling haul!

Very nice indeed

Wow......
That's amazing. Nice job and thanks for sharing.
P.S. Based on your legal disclaimer, please tell me that you were wearing at least 400 square inches of Blaze orange and that you did not have a flashlight attached to your rod. :chuckle:

Very nice ....How was the ramp up there. Heard they where making it bigger and better.
-
Nicely done! Can't wait for the season to get started up by my dads house. Will be a whole bunches of fun!

We also found 7 Japanese floats. We only went after deep water lings. No sea Bass. The wind started blowing 25 KNTS at about 10 am. We took it at 2 o clock on the bow all the way in. The boat did not care . The only problem we had was I could not see most of the time. The spray was going all the way over the boat.
I am taking charters. It was a charter last weekend. Pm me if interested. Only a few weekends left. There is talk of leaving it open on Friday during Halibut this year. We can only hope.
I gave them a proposal to re-do the ramp. My bid was 680,000. Their budget was 200K. they are putting a band aid on it instead. Better fix next year I hope. Back at it this weekend. Get em while we can.

Right on! Loved catching big lings when I guided in AK. They were one of my favorites. Good work and good eatin!
-
Awesome, love those lings, the bigger the better!!!! Great job for sure...
-
OMG....yum
-
WOW! Never caught one of those. Great catch.
Anyone willing to share a place where one can catch some of these monsters, without a boat?
-
Hard to do without a boat. we were 30 miles out in 550 Ft of water. The lings in shallower are generally smaller. We had fish in the bellies of these brutes that were the same size as some of the other boats fish.

Big pre-spawn hens still out deep before coming in shallow to spawn. The smaller bucks are in the shallower water, nice fish
-
I keep checking out the picture and counting the days till I get the boat in the water.
Thats an outstanding grade of fish.

Every time I look at this post, I get the itch to get the boat wet  Dang nice fish
