Title: Tongue's in the photo.
Post by: skybusterbo on November 23, 2008, 09:17:16 AM
O.k. here I go. I know it's not a big deal, but.  I can't be the only one that looks at a awesome photo of some of these awesome bucks, bulls, moose and others. And the tongue's are hanging out.  :tung: I'm guilty if doing the same thing. Then I look at the pic and say to myself. That would be a great pic but the tongue is hanging out. :tung:And you take it to work to brag and a non hunter see's it and...you know the rest.  :o It just takes a second to stick it back in and then it doesn't take away from the picture.

I agree. It ruins a fine picture and looks disrespectfull and redneck. Push it back in, or cut it off.  Good point.

For me it is about displaying the animal in it's best pose. The tongue takes away from a good picture and isn't the best look for the animal you worked so hard to get.

Boone & Crockett's take,

"Set the animal up so it is presented in a respectful way. Tongues hanging out, blood on the animal or the ground, bullet holes showing in the body and legs askew detract from the photograph and contribute to distasteful photographs."

"It is the editorial policy of the Club to only publish field photographs of big game animals which present the animal in a discreet and respectful way."

Another thing that bugs the crap out of me is all the pictures I see with the animals  throats slit. No offence to those that do, I now that is probably the way you were taught but it is unnecessary and to me ruins a great photo op.

I like a litte Tongue!  :P  ;) .  Oh yeah and I believe most of us is rednecks on this here site.  I personally don't "church up" the photos I take.

About the Slit Throats, I don't personally do it, but if you have ever witnessed a good butcher.  That is the first thing he does after the kill so it must do something.  To each his own.  What ever floats your boat.

Take a picture of em how they died,  everyone knows you propped em up and made them look pretty anyway,  like the original look better myself.  And yes I am a little (or a lot according to my wife :)) redneck, and very proud of it actually :)

Gotta love the deer in the back of the truck with the 37 beer cans around it lol, never got the slitting the throat on bucks, most taxidermist will buy capes, or the people loping the heads of bull elk, those capes are worth some money

I agree with blacktail luv, picture them like they fell. Next we'll have to start carrying deer makeup for the picture. I hate all the political correctness in every aspect of life. I don't focus on the tongue or hole / blood, I always check out animal, rack and the smile on the persons face. I sure as hell ain't going to spend 15 minutes trying to stuff a swollen tongue back in a deers mouth or cut it out. Show it like it died and be proud. Mike

15 minutes to put the toungue in the mouth?   Hmmmmm.  It takes me less than 15 seconds to put the tongue in the mouth and wrap brack tape or a zip tie around it to keep it closed and wipe the blood off. If it takes you fiteen minutes to plop the tounge in how long does it take you to gut the thing?

I don't care what others do with there pics but it's undenyable that a pic with a relatively clean animal without the bloody toungue looks better. Thats just a fact. I've seen this subject come up so many times and it's funny how pissed some people get at the thought of taking a better pic.

It  is a method to bleed the animal out, because hey are usually shot in the head (not much blood flow). A deer or elk being shot in the lungs or even the heartwill be bled out before you get to them, thus making it unnecessary to slit the throat. My dad was a butcher for many years and he never once slit the throat of a wild animal.

I'm guilty of it in the past (hell, even last year) of not taking the time to shove the tongue back in. It really only does take a few seconds to do. This year I told my buddy to shove the tongue back in when I was taking his field pic. He looked at me funny for telling him to do so, but I think it made the picture much better. You focus on looking at the animals rack in the pic rather than the tongue flopping around. I don't think its so much about PC as it is just having a better picture.

I personally could care less if the tongue is hanging out or not.  The deer is dead, dead deer usually have their tongues hanging out.  I take a picture to remind me of the moment and that is what it is for....to remind me, not to win a photo contest for having the prettiest dead deer picture.

I'm with triple, and as far as bragging and having antis see it, don't brag, I am pretty aware of the folks I show my photos to.  If you think about it at the time of kill then great if not who cares.

Gotta agree with Gutpile here. I want to emphasize "I don't care what others do...". I wouldn't personally like to see tongues hanging out in my photos.. but then again I'm cooler than most  ;)

I never used to even thing about it. I took pics with the tongue out, pics with the skinned deer in the pickup, dismembered deer etc, etc but the older I got I just wanted better pics that I could frame and hang, thats all. So I started tucking the tongue in and wrapping with elec tape. I'd Gut the deer and by the time I finished the tongue will usually stay in by itself. I'm no photo expert but I do try. Sometimes the adrenaline is flowing and I forget, but I do try to get the best pic possible.

This is a pic of my oldest daughters first deer. I kick myself for not cleaning it up a bit. Not a bad pic but it sure would have been better if I rememberd to just wipe the blood off a bit.

Now here's my youngest daughters 1st deer. Which pic is better? I tried to wipe the wound but it just kept seeping.  :bash:

Again it's of no consequence to me how someone else takes a pic, but for me I want a pic I can frame and really enjoy showing off to friends and family who may or may not hunt.

I think saying other peoples photos are disrespectful and redneck is running them down, you say you dont care what other people do in there photos but you keep rambling on and on about it. (If you need proof I'll put your quote here to) I say you have beat the horse to the point that his tongue is hanging out. time to move on to another topic. :twocents:

I know what I said. Basically I don't care. I like looking at photos, the more the better. Tongue, no tounge, brains, guts, blood, no matter. BUT................ I do like MY F$#$#$#$ photos to look there best. Is that OK with you? Thats all I was trying to convey. If I offended you I'm very sorry. If I alone caused you to never post another pic it's my loss. You're right the horse is dead. now I'll just  :stfu:
