It's that time of year again!! Last year April and I had a blast having all of you over for a bbq, and we want to do it again this year. Hopefully most of you had a good time as well, and we can make this year's get together just as great of a time! For those that didn't attend or know about last year's bbq, you can catch up here...
http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,120013.0.html (http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,120013.0.html)
I will be updating this post as things get settled, but for now here's what we have in mind...
When: July 26-27.
Where: Outside Granite Falls, WA.
The Plan: Potluck-style bbq, same as last year. It goes without saying, but any wild game and homegrown veggies are a huge plus! Family-friendly, so bring spouses/significant others and kids!
Other stuff:
There will be an archery range available, and I will have archery tic-tac-toe, archery poker, and "Dartchery" (darts, but with bows and a big@$$ dartboard) ready to go.
There will be horseshoes just like last year as well.
There will be a campfire after dark in the evening, so bring lawn chairs! Anyone wanting to stay overnight is welcome, I can put up a few folks on couches and floors and there is plenty of room for tents outside. If you have an RV, shoot me a pm and we can make arrangements for that as well.
I'm hoping to be able to have a small .22 rifle range available, since I think that would be fun (especially for the youngsters!), but I'm not sure if I'll be able to pull that off or not yet so stay tuned.....
We should have the "petting zoo" open for the youngsters, maybe the chickens could cooperate again and leave some eggs for the kids to find.
I'm sure I'll be adding to this list as this thread progresses, maybe we can get some prizes for horseshoes or the archery range...? Maybe another calling lesson from Rick? Keg toss again?
So far, that's what I've got. Okay, who's in?!?!! :IBCOOL: :hello:
-
Not that you should schedule around me but I have a soccer tournament that weekend
-
I'll be the first - count me in! :IBCOOL:
Carl
-
Would love to go but have a wedding to attend that weekend :bash:
-
I'm in. Keg toss and all. Last year was a good time. I'm happy to see you doing it again. Good on you.
-
That is awesome you are offering up your amazing place and hospitality again Fishstiq! :) I'm sure we'll be coming. It was an event NOT to miss last year, so so many members attending, very fun.
-
You know we will be there brother.
Had a blast last year and uhh, kept the fire tended until about 2am. :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:
Nice of you to open your home again because I remember you saying "Next year its at someone elses house!"
-
Maybe a moderator can sticky this like last year's was? :)
-
Count me in again this year. Looking forward to seeing everyone again.
-
I believe I'm also good for the proposed dates. I'll change up my wild game offering to the potluck this year. Not sure what yet...
As for the He-Man games I can bring the keg back if you guys have been refining your technique since last year. I think we all needed to work on our tosses.
Any suggestions for further contests?
Here's a couple to consider...
Axe throwing???
Apple Pie (the drink) contest? We need a judge that's ready to be a happy person after sampling everyones efforts.
Fire Walking? (I beleive there were a couple of you at the last get together that were lubed up enuf to try this)
Arm Wrestling?
I think I remember Buckmark was going to bring livestock for something last year?
Anyhow, this was meant to get your creative juices flowing....
-
Keg toss was a winner.
Moonshine excellent idea.
Axe throwing would be very good.
Face painting for the kids? Smossy Girl?
Archery contest for kids....toy bow with balloons and prizes?
-
I will try to be there.
-
Face painting for the kids?
Why only just the kids? :dunno:
-
BBQ? Oh ya I am down for that. Any special requests from the pit?
-
Moonshine...? :)
-
Moonshine...? :)
Not in my pit... Well maybe to burn it off........
Rode CGN38 (88-92)
-
Mod's pin this. I will check my schedule but sounds like a great time! Can I finish the keg before you guys shake it up?
-
Not that you should schedule around me but I have a soccer tournament that weekend
Would love to go but have a wedding to attend that weekend :bash:
Is there a date that would be better? I'm open to suggestions!
-
Count me in again this year. Looking forward to seeing everyone again.
Any chance of making arrangements to use your tables and stuff again this year?
-
If we are throwing dates out the weekend before or mid July would be much better. I've got this pesky 15 year anniv trip planned to Cannon Beach......
-
Axe throwing???
What kind of area/target would be needed? Could we use the archery area from last year?
BBQ? Oh ya I am down for that. Any special requests from the pit?
What is "the pit"? It sounds like a great thing... :dunno:
-
Okay, the two dates we can host the bbq are posted above, either June 28-29 or July 26-27. Please post up what dates work best for you so we can get the date set and get on with planning the throwing-axes-at-balloons-while-firewalking-and-drinking-apple-pie-from-a-keg contest!
-
Joe and April,
Thanks for hosting this group again. It probably took you at least 10 months to get over the last one! :chuckle: It was a highlight of last year.
I think we should set up some infrared cameras to catch the night-time action.
Thanks again for your hospitality and generosity.
Carl
-
June dates are best for me.

End of July for me.
-
End of July for me as well
-
I'll definitely try to make it. Sounds like a blast.
I'll have two little ones at home by then so I'll see how things pan out. End of July is probably the best for me too.
-
As it stands now, either date works for us. We're gonna bring a tent :) so if you pass out on the couch again we don't have to kick you off your own furniture :chuckle: :chuckle:
*If anyone needs a ride up from Spanaway area along the I-5 corridor let me or Smossy know. We will be staying the night there though so you'll have to stay or arrange a ride home, but it's a long drive and we don't mind carpooling.
*We will bring a canopy and a table, to add to all the others.
*h20 - I'll look into the face painting, and see if my shaky hands will even work out to do it. If not, I could look into getting some sort of craft table setup for the kiddos. Maybe a coloring station or something with lots of coloring books and crayons you parents can have your little ones sit at.
-
Either date will work for me as well.
Carl
-
Me and Rae might be able to make it and bring a ton of sauce for the event and handouts
-
i think the july dates are best for us . had a great time last year , hope to see everyone again this year.

As far as the axe throwing. If we have a safe place to throw it'll be good. I didn't go there last year so I can't answer the quesiton about last years archery area. As far as targets, if we can come up with a couple lily pad end cuts off decent sized logs that would probably do just fine. Will have to figure a way to stand them up though.
As for the quesiton about "the pit" by Rider. I believe rider has a BBQ business and he's offering some product from his operation. I think it's named "Dead Man BBQ". I also think he has a BBQ on Wheels so he can be mobile. I believe this is his operation.

Figure a way to hold them up? Please. D-Rock has two hands.
-
:chuckle: good one h2o
-
Figure a way to hold them up? Please. D-Rock has two hands.
Well, I guess that issue is solved with the axe throwing.
-
See. I'm a problem solver. Also a good taste tester for shine.
-
Either date works for me and I would be happy to donate a cookbook for a prize.
-

We have a competition BBQ team. The business aspect was formed because we get requests for catering & event vending. we also host the Washington State Spring BBQ Championship.
My thought was to pull the pit & kitchen up there to cook on site or I can just cook here and bring stuff up to be reheated.----- I am not looking to sell anything to anyone here. Not looking to make money unless someone feels generous to help offset meat costs. Even better would be if anyone had game meat like deer, elk, bear, etc that could be cooked in the smoker.
The pit is our big BBQ pit. I have a smaller pellet smoker as well that fits on my tailgate.
-
I'll be there. Help with calling. Rick
-
RIDER, that BBQ is friggin awesome dude, that looks like it would hold a whole beef
-
As of right now i am tied up on both those dates.

we're good with either just say when
-
Pretty excited to see everyone again this year, Maybe Ill get to actually meet more of the people who are there lol
-
July may be better here. Might be helpful to post a poll with options.
As far as cooking. No problems. We can spin up a thread on food etc once dates are set.
-
Rider, that BBQ is a beast!
I'll be there. Help with calling. Rick
Nice! It will be great seeing you again Rick .
-
Bump for the evening crowd, we are hoping to have the date set by Monday so speak up if you haven't already!
-
Can't wait. Rick
-
I will not be in town for the July dates :bash:
-
Then who is going to hold the target for the ax throwing?
-
I guess you're it
-
In that case we need to get the 'shine' taste testing done early on. I'll be ready.
-
Then who is going to hold the target for the ax throwing?
Can I volunteer someone?? :chuckle:
-
I'm good for either date. Hope you find a way to make it Drock. We need you there to keep H20 under control.
As for the target holder. Of course you can volunteer someone Smossy's Girl...
-
July is best for me
-
Does anyone own or have access to 1 or 2 big lilypad log ends? Stands look easy enough to make....
-

uh oh S/G took out a life insurance policy on smossy :chuckle:

Anyone take a head count last year? I'd guess around 40 or so? Hard to tell...I was......maybe a touch.....sipping one or two beverages.
-
Anyone take a head count last year? I'd guess around 40 or so? Hard to tell...I was......maybe a touch.....sipping one or two beverages.
We kept a rough tally. Everyone wasn't there at once, but all told close to 70 people came and went at some point.
*Edit*
This is why we will be getting a porta potty this year! I am not unclogging anyones....nevermind....again this year!!!
:puke:
-
I forgot about that......I believe I was arriving and you were working on getting that...or someones...business taken care of!

I was gonna say we had a list on the other thread, that x2 was roughly the amount with their spouses, then if you count kiddos there was a good number. List isn't there anymore though.
-
We have been discussing prizes for games, to get folks and kiddos more involved. We are also incubating and hatching our own chickens now. Last year, lots of the kids were excited to find an egg in the chicken coop and wanted to hatch them. See where this is going....?
So, we can set eggs to hatch a day or two before the bbq, and there could be baby chickens as prizes for kids. I know not everyone has the resources (time, money, space) to raise them, but I thought it would be a cool prize for the kids and a really funny problem to stick some of you parents with! :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

I remember you talking about having to do that. A honey bucket is probably the best solution. You may have a hard time convincing some of the more proper types to use it.

Good to see your up for hosting again Joe, had a great time last year! I'll bring holey boards for anyone that wants to toss some washers. Should I plan to bring Jalapeno poppers again?
The June date works best for me but only because the July date usually finds me down at Aquafest gettin rowdy.
Lookin forward to it!
Ron

Been watching and waiting for the final final final date as I missed out on last years. :(
And I'll miss this years too. I have my daughter the bride to proudly walk down the aisle with in Spokane on the 26th. At the very least, I would be beaten severely by a bridezilla if I chose to hang at the BBQ. Mt future SIL, he would understand though. :chuckle:
Have a great time ladies and gents - I'll be there in spirit!

That sucks! I wish there was a date that would work for everyone. Hopefully there will be another crab-o-rama get together or a couple other summer bbq's elsewhere that I can hang out with you guys at this year!
-
Meh....can't please 'em all!
Going to be a good time. Count me in for some crab and a growler or two.
-
I'll be camping with the family at a 3-D shoot.
-
So, this "hatchet throwing" business.... how far past the target is necessary for a safety zone? Is there a standard size for a "missed hatchet landing area" or something? :dunno:
-
No worries. I am heading to Minnesota just after that and wife's company has their summer bbq that weekend. They are going to do it at the CLINQ. Should be interesting.
-
I think you better order a few of these

Hatchets, knives maybe a smossy toss or two this year? :dunno: goldeneye and Elk247 will put the 2013 shoe title back on the line. Bring your A game boys and girls. I'm looking foward to finally shooting some dartchery cricket. Looking forward to it. Thanks Joe and April!

Smossy throw, hah - only thing you guys are throwing is your arms out.
Coming in at a beefy 215lbs ill see you there brother. I might even bring some old wooden whiskey kegs to contribute.

Who said anything about a hatchet? We're talking axes! :chuckle:
JK, This needs to be modified for whatever we have. Here's some basic rules in the attachment.
https://www.baileysonline.com/PDF/axe_throwing_lumberjack_rules.pdf (https://www.baileysonline.com/PDF/axe_throwing_lumberjack_rules.pdf)
Axe Throwing
1. Center of bull’s eye is to be exactly 60 inches from the ground. The target will be
36 inches in diameter with five scoring areas; 4 inch bull’s eye with 4 inch width
rings. The bull’s eye shall score 5 points, the next outside area 4 points, the next
outer 3 points, next 2 points and the next 1 point. If hole is drilled into center of
bull’s eye for inserting beer can, the scoring remains the same except if axe hits
and draws liquid from can, that throw will be scored 6 points. Foul line is 20 feet
straight out from bull’s eye then down.
2. Final resting place of axe is scoring area. Points will be scored in the highest point
ring in which the axe is resting. If both points stick there will be no points given
for that throw. The axes must stick in the target until the judge removes or
instructs the contestant to do so.
3. Contestant must stand behind a foul line. Axe must be released before either foot
crosses the foul line. This rule will be enforced.
4. The axe must be double bitted of at least 2-1/2 pounds having an overall length of
no less than 24 inches and no greater than 40 inches as measured from the top of
the eye to the end of the handle. The blade width will not exceed 6 inches.
5. The leading edge of the axe shall be the scoring edge.
6. One practice throw and a minimum of 3 throws for score (practice throw may be
at the option of the show). If contestant does not wish a practice throw it is his
responsibility to inform the judge before starting his 1st throw.
7. Area behind target must be kept clear of people in an area of 20 by 20 feet. Axe
throw judge should be aware of the competitor’s feet crossing the foul line (even
as a follow-through) prior to the axe hitting the target.
8. After throw has been scored the score cannot be changed for any reason.
How to Make a Throwing Axe Target
1. Obtain a log round. Size requirements vary depending on regional competition
specifications. Check with your local chapter.
2. Determine the exact center of the round and place a nail in that location.
3. Tie a 2 inch long string around the nail with a pencil tied to the loose end.
4. Rotate the string around the nail so that the pencil makes a 4 inch diameter circle
(the bull’s eye).
5. Extend the string to 6 inches so that the next circle you mark will be 12 inches in
diameter.
6. Extend the string to 10 inches so that the next circle you mark will be 20 inches in
diameter.
7. Extend the string to 14 inches so that the next circle you mark will be 28 inches in
diameter.
8. Extend the string to 18 inches so that the next circle you mark (the outside of your
target) will be 36 inches in diameter.

throw judge should be aware of the competitor’s feet crossing the foul line (even
as a follow-through) prior to the axe hitting the target.
JK with all the professional axe throwers that will be there youy better get this right! :chuckle:
Sounds like you have experience here. Thanks for stepping up to organize how to "get this right"! :chuckle:

I'm going to try and make it, Fishtiq. Sounds like a good time. Thanks for doing this.

So, this "hatchet throwing" business.... how far past the target is necessary for a safety zone? Is there a standard size for a "missed hatchet landing area" or something? :dunno:

We will be doing that, working on some details first then the list of needed items will get made. If you have a signature dish you make, or game meat or homegrown veggies, that's always a good idea.

So uhh, do you have to be pumped full of testosterone to do the axe throwing comp? :chuckle: I wanna try! Since I know I can't do the keg toss.. Or maybe a smaller scale hatchet throwing comp too lol.
I do have a video somewhere of last year's keg toss though, I need to find it and post it up! :)

ahhhhh I put an elfish curse on all of your draw odds. You have no one to blame but yourselves. :peep:
-
Are well behaved, friendly dogs allowed at this fun-ction???
Aah, kind-of an iffy subject here in regards to dogs....
We are dog people, and we would love to have your four-legged family members come over and meet ours. All my close friends have dogs, so when we get together there is usually a 1:1 ratio of dogs to people. Having said that, I have some concerns...
We have 2 smallish dogs, one of whom can be a little punk when he meets bigger dogs. We also have 20 chickens in an open pen. A fun weekend with good friends can turn bad pretty quick if one person's dog seriously hurts someone elses, or if I end up with dead chickens. Trust me, this is worse, my wife LOVES our chickens.
Also, there's the issue of numbers. 80ish people here last year was great. 80ish people and 15-20 or more dogs running around, with kids and food and chickens and hatchet throwing... :dunno:
Goldeneye asked last year about bringing dogs, and I felt the potential for a problem was a bit too much with it being our first time hosting. Lokidog brought his dog Amber, but that's a dog I have been around enough to know that she would be fine around our place.
I don't mean to come off as high-and-mighty or judgemental, but I'm not 100% comfortable with the idea of an open door policy on bringing dogs. Like I said, I would love to have them, but I think we might have to establish some ground rules to avoid any problems.
Bottom line I guess, if you want to bring your dog(s), message me and we'll see what we can work out.
-
Oh yeah, why I came here in the 1st place... FOOD!!!
Those of you that are attending, could you do a favor and post up what you are bringing for the potluck if you haven't already done that? We are trying to make some preparations and estimates on what will be needed to supplement what y'all are already bringing. Thanks!
-
They were last year!
Until they ran into the screen door :chuckle: poor Amber.
-
That's it high and mighty! I'm not going if my neighbors friends buddy cant bring his rottie to eat your silly chickens! Like totally whatever.
Ok. Fine. I'll be there. I plan on bring beer and a cooler of cooked and iced down crab.
-

Yea, my labs were not happy when I left for the party last year in their truck without them.
My old girl is 14 and getting pretty close to being allowable at your party perhaps. She's deaf, with so-so eye sight, and more worried about getting attention nowadays than chasing birds. I had her and my young lab at a friends place a while back and while my young dog kept a close eye on his chickens the old dog pretty much ignored them.
As far as food goes how does this sound. 10 lbs +/- of elk burger for the barbie? Bull hunting has been good to me and I have enough to share... I know it's nothing exotic but it does taste pretty darn good. I have other options, I just happen to have more of that than anything else. Let me know and if needed we'll figure something else out.
-
There will never, ever come a day when I say elk burger on the barbie is a bad idea! Looking forward to that!
-
If y'all are in to baked goods, I know a gal
Planning on that and beer

Macaroni salad and 5 gallons of water for the kids

-
Got a roll call yet? How many we plannin 4?
Can't really do a roll call, way too many last minute changes. Shoot, in the last week before last year's bbq the count nearly doubled! Last year was 80 +/- people.

BBQ Brisket and/or pulled pork.
-
Bump...
Since I am in here I thought I'd show that even my pup's are working to provide some meat on the table for the BBQ. They protected my property yesterday and took down the mighty mole when it decided to try and challenge my security team.
-
Well done. Rasbo would be proud.
-
how come this is the first i am hearing of this....
-
Its a secret. Noboby was supposed to let you know. The less people the more of G'eyes special 'shine for me. Shhhh......just keep on moving to the next thread. Nothing to see here.
-

Show up and have some of that shine I mentioned.....throw a keg around....some horse shoes....you will feel all better.

Didn't we still need someone to hold the target for the axe throwing since Drock can't make it?

Here is a jump to a page from last years bbq. Looking at the pics reminds me of what a great time it was.

Looking at deep fried dogfish this year. If I had more in the freezer, I'd do merganser salsbury steak. I'll try to get enough for Summer BBQ 2015. 8)
-
Here's a start, got her today while trying for lings, thought I got me a nice ling and then this. :( Fileted it up for the BBQ. When I got home, out popped 10 babies, figured I'd save them for hors d'oevres. :chuckle:
-
Yummy in my tummy NOT
-
I've eaten them before. Not really my thing but it wasn't terrible.
-
I'll try your deep fried dogfish.....but no more raccoon for me.
-
Any interest in a Chopped sort of cooking competition?
3-4 folks, everyone given the same ingredients and see what we come up with? I'm sort of interested in cooking on the fly.
Planning on coming with a fair bit of cook gear.
-
With our summer being as busy as it is I wasn't able to put together a crab outing this year. That being said, the weekend of this cookout is open as of now so pencil in the Ripper gang. We will bring a dish of some sorts, probably a few dishes.
-
Nice, look forward to seeing you and the Ms.
-
I'm going to do my best to make it this year. I'm not as active on here as I used to be but it would be great to meet a bunch of you.
-
goldeneye and Elk247 will put the 2013 shoe title back on the line. Bring your A game boys and girls.
Starting to look forward to this. Would love to retain our title...
BTW, Made a large batch of my apple pie the weekend (9 quarts 2 pints). I'll bring a couple quarts to the event. H20 and whoever else makes this stuff, bring a jar of yours and let's have a sampling to see what each others recipe produces.

I think you must have went towards that 7 number after the bulk of the folks left. As I remember you and ELK were on a mission to finish the last of the beer. I agree with H20. You were fine while I was there.
-
If Im not in India (That chithole) I will be making this one 4 sure.
Sounds like a blast.
Got my fingers crossed that Im home.
-
Yeah....I was a little toasty by the time we were leaving. I've got some 'shine on hand....Its a growler full. Have to have a few folks on hand to crack that open.
See you there Whitey.
-
I'm going to have to make some of that there shine. I'll bet the wifey would like that.

He did hahaha... It was more or less a "oh crap, what are we doing on our way to meet all these strangers"-moment so he found the quickest alcoholic beverage to consume... then continued throughout the day.
-
Nametags were fun! If anyone wore them... it's hard to remember that many SCREEN NAMES, learn REAL NAMES, and remember who they are all at once.

No, Drock can't make it this year.

That's a bummer. Cant wait. Rick

I'm planning on attending again! Sad there won't be more raccoon sloppy joes... :'(
-
All right folks. Had a little pre bbq bbq action with our host and his lovely wife. One thing I think we need to do is try and create a rolling roll call. I think it would help some of those that are providing the meat, the plates, etc get a feel for what turnout will be. So, please copy and paste and add your name.

Rider: Pulled pork. Beef brisket, elk/venison chili.
here is the rubs: I can't bring enough pulled pork or brisket for everyone. If anyone wants to chip in for meat I am happy to BBQ it. If anyone has extra ground elk/venison I could use another 3# of each. I only have enough for 1 batch.
Also bringing: 2 burner stove, large pots, pellet smoker
-
Rider, I'll get you some elk burger for the chili. It sounds like you need 3 lbs? Or?
Since it's chili your going to probably be cooking it before the event. Let's figure out a place and time to meet up before the BBQ. I live south of Lake Stevens.
-
Sounds good. I live in Monroe.
I use a 50/50 (elk/venison) blend for game meat chili. So it is 3# elk & 3# venison. That make 6# or a triple batch.
If you want to brown it you can just bring it up Saturday morning. I'll be making the base the night before and finish on site.

I use a 50/50 (elk/venison) blend for game meat chili. So it is 3# elk & 3# venison. That make 6# or a triple batch.
If you want to brown it you can just bring it up Saturday morning. I'll be making the base the night before and finish on site.
We'll need someone else to come up with the venison. I haven't hunted deer in a couple years. So I don't have the vension. Been filling my freezer with bulls instead.

Really. You want to go there. Just leave it where it is Smossy. You've made your thought's very clear previously. We don't need to go down that road again.
All I was saying is I can support this request for Elk Burger. I don't have any deer so we still need someone with deer burger to donate. Simple...

I can try replacing the venison with elk. Shouldn't be hard.

You shared your viewpoint this last October to me. It was pointed and I didn't appreciate it at the time. I assumed this was you wanting to go back to that and start it up again. I would rather not re-visit it. It appears that was not your intention by your response here. So, I think we're good and am sorry for thinking you were going there again.
See you at the shindig.

Man I let go of things pretty quick, In all honesty I don't remember what was even said? It doesn't matter though; I want to harvest elk bad. Elk and Bear seem to be my highest interests. If anyone can help push me closer on achieving that goal I'm all ears.

Peace, I got a good memory. It's great for my line of work, but can be bad because I remember things for a long time.
We can talk about Elk at the BBQ. I do well with the Rosie's. As far as bear. I see them every season almost during my fall hunts. Have only shot one in my life. So I probably won't have any good tips for you on them.

Giving this some thought, sounds like a good time and would be cool to meet some of you. And, just so happens, we've got a few jugs of apple pie aging. What's the policy on dogs? Black labs, good natured. Also, how much RV space is there? Would bring the trailer if we come down, bring some friends with us with their trailer as well. Can never have too much help "tending the fire" after dark!

If anyone is looking for other items to share, some suggestions...
Salads. Macaroni salad, pasta salad, homegrown garden veggie salad, whatever you got.
Side dishes. Beans, cole slaw, that sort of thing.
Bread. Burger buns, dog buns, rolls, something to go with the elk and pig and such.
Cookies are never a bad idea.
Bags of potato chips or other snacks like that.
Trash bags or cleanup items.
Easy-up canopies and lawn chairs! No such thing as too many.
Coolers of water, soda, juice.
What's the policy on dogs? Black labs, good natured.
PM me and we'll figure it out.
Also, how much RV space is there? Would bring the trailer if we come down, bring some friends with us with their trailer as well. Can never have too much help "tending the fire" after dark!
Depends on the RV, but somewhat limited. A small pull-behind would probably be okay, but a 5th wheel or something like that will likely be too big to have anywhere near where folks will be hanging out. What size trailers do you and your friend have? I'll see what I can figure out once I know what we'll be working with.

Last year, quite a few people asked where to go to smoke a cigarette away from where folks were congregating (very courteous and appreciated BTW!), so this year I have a smoking area all set up. Whatever sort of legal shrubbery you wanna smoke there is up to you .
Personally, April and I don't partake in "el planto verde de diablo", but as long as those that would like to smoke exercise a little courtesy and common sense (not around kids, don't burn my place down...) then we have no issues with it. With this group, I have no worries at all about it!
-
I remember you you saying you were having an issue with one of your neighbors. Did you set up this smoking area on your property near his house? :dunno: :chuckle: JK
-
Who do you think has been smoking all the ganj?
Hah....
No worries....C'mon...you've met me and plenty of others. I'd be worried.

So........besides back yard wedding events............given the current hot topics......what is your stance on anyone bringing along their legal special guest.....Ms. Mary Jane......
Hmmmm?
:chuckle:
Last year, quite a few people asked where to go to smoke a cigarette away from where folks were congregating (very courteous and appreciated BTW!), so this year I have a smoking area all set up. Whatever sort of legal shrubbery you wanna smoke there is up to you .
Personally, April and I don't partake in "el planto verde de diablo", but as long as those that would like to smoke exercise a little courtesy and common sense (not around kids, don't burn my place down...) then we have no issues with it. With this group, I have no worries at all about it!
I personally want to say thanks, as a smoker I know I'm now in a minority. But can and do respect those non-smokers. Looking forward to meeting others like myself who are in the minority  we're all not that bad just smell different :chuckle: but our dogs still love us unconditionally, and don't plan on swapping spit with any of you so don't get any ideas :bdid: cause you would have to answer to my better half
-
On another note, :bdid: to put the out house next to the smoking area as we smokers tend to like to tip things over especially when it involves a good laugh at someone else's expense :chuckle:
Also any of the smokers out here that are attending happen to have a water balloon sling shot we could have some fun lobbing water balloons from the safety of our dictated area :chuckle:
-
:) :) :) I may be over there earlier than I thought.....some shift changes at work actually went my way.... :)
-
If it's hot like it was last year, we will probably have a sprinkler going for the kids (and childish adults ) to run through to cool off, so remember to bring whatever attire you might deem necessary!
-
Excellent. Never a bad time to flaunt my speedo collection. I have a legit '74 banana hammock that is really something.
-
Sun's out, buns out!
-
Ummm for the sake of being PC and alls, can my ink be exposed....I mean my normally visible ink not the stuff only seen by a select few. Are there gonna be lots of little kids? course if there are banana hammocks being sported my arm is the least of the worries... :o :chuckle:
-
Run, mine will be, so no worries.
-
sweet :) I am looking forward to this...and my visit with my sisters...

Not sure if I'm going with leapord print hammock or possible blue sparkle. Both are fabulous in their own way.
-
Blue sparkles of if they match your eyes

Eyes I believe are more hazel. However....one could say the animal print goes well with my facial hair. Granted....back hair or "man pelt" is pretty dark and course. Ladies......just try and stay calm....

its ok he reminds me of my kids with some of the stuff he says :dunno: I was being courteous some people on here have made it clear they dislike ink, I volunteer with kids and work front office I am used to covering it if asked to.
-
Smossy has been around me enough......he has heard much worse from me off the forum. Actually....a few people have. I like looking at others ink. Always interested in the stories behind them.

I have a Parole board hearing on the 22nd so keep your fingers crossed.....looks promising....

I want to make sure I have these last few posts summed up correctly.
- Run is asking if ink concerns anyone.
- H20 is trying to decide how to decorate his banana.
- Buckmark is hoping to get parole.
Sound about right? When the day comes for this little event everyone needs to just toss back a little apple Pie shine, do a group hug and call it a BBQ then!
-
Sounds like you understand perfectly.
-
So h20 is gonna wear a what and run has ink in places that cant always be seen and i may just be out on parole....sounds like a good time........
-
A banana hammock....hello.....B....A.....N....ANA! Do I gotta spell it out fo you?
-
I like blue......
-
Would like3 to attend but still have a lot of trail to get cleared before the middle of Aug for bear opener
-
This sure was an interesting thread to read through haha sure hope I can make this years BBQ ! Sounds like a good time !
-
Last year was really a good time. Joe and his lovely wife are about the best hosts you can ask for. The food was great and sounds like will be a repeat this year. Come on out, throw some horseshoes, bring the kids and family, relax, and just enjoy the company....well, most of it.

robertsjd,
You may want to practice up on your keg tossing form. That was a popular activity last year in the afternoon/evening. I think I remember that H20 did the best in that event.
-
I was respectable I believe. Far harder than it looks. I'd like to take 3 throws this year and best one counts.
-
Haha thanks for the heads up goldeneye! Ill see what I can do in the keg tossing prep here next week or so haha . Ya I think I may just come out sounds like a good time with some good people that all share the same interests !
-

would've been easier if you drained some of the key first

if this keg is empty I will toss it been years since i used to wrestle those things ....lol if full heck no this girl is soft real soft....
-
Well, I think you all are going to have to wait until next year for the scrumptious dogfish morsels.... I've had a couple of jobs that have just taken way too long and I need that weekend for some other stuff. Hope you all have a great time.
BTW, hotdog toppings will have to come from somewhere else. :(
-
Sorry to hear loki. When you do get in the area one of these days remember that I still have those bird heads for you...

Nice....we can compare keg tossing form. Mine is kind of mix of attempted brute strenght, a bit of youth relived, and all I can do to not pull a hammie or wrench my back to the point of tears.
Loki....bummer man....next time.

So........besides back yard wedding events............given the current hot topics......what is your stance on anyone bringing along their legal special guest.....Ms. Mary Jane......
Hmmmm?
:chuckle:

I'm massively allergic to mj smoke (throat closes up) so a smoking area downwind of the festivities would be greatly appreciated... or I can't attend :(

I did mention mine would be in my truck as she is traveling with me...she is super tiny and can stay in the rig I am hoping that is acceptable.

I have it all set up so you'll never even know it's there . Honestly, I really don't think many (if any at all) will be smoking anything besides cigarettes.

Sorry, I forgot we talked about that :sry:. Yes, your dog is all good! Smaller dogs really aren't so much an issue, since they don't knock stuff over or go after birds. It's more having 10 GSP-sized dogs running around that I'm trying to avoid.

Allright bbq fans.............we are nearly there. Weathr reports are calling for cool and wet conditions this week so all you tokers don't have to worry about setting the lawn on fire. I've reminded the wife that she is on the hook for two cakes and she is ready to bake.
However...crab....we need and must have crab. I need two....count 'em two....warm bodies interested in going crabbing on Saturday morning. No experience neccessary, no gas money or bait needed. I only want you for your catch card! Hah. I'm posting here instead of the open seat thread because if you are out with me that morning you will be eating the crab later that day. So, If you want a boat ride shoot me a pm.
edit....I'm looking to get a nice early start. I'd like to be leaving the Everett boat launch around 6 Sat morning.
-
Mmmm. Now all I'm thinking about is crab and bbq.
Any suggestions on what time the chow line is going to get started? Reason I ask is I'd like to make sure the ready to cook crab gets there on time with the other chow.
Still need bodies to fill a few punch cards.

Joe said something along the lines of if you show up before ten I'll gut you like a fish and choke the life out of your carcass with your entrails. Something also about damming your immortal soul as well.
-
Sounds like fun at least sounds better than the crap I'm going through now
-
Good to go for crabbing.....Carl, Buckmark, and I will be heading out that a.m. for crab procurement.

Something unexpected is going to happen if you have Buckmark on board. Remember he just got paroled...
-
Yeah....we talked over pm...wasn't going to bring that up but apparently those ankle bracelets are water/salt proof so it shouldn't be an issue.

Make sure he has clearance from his parole officer to be on the sound crabbing with you as well. I believe they have fairly tight restrictions on where his kind can be.
-
Agreed. My plan was to just so happen to ask for my voluntary safety inspection...see how he reacts, guage his reaction, go from there. If he gets weird I can just yell for help and will have the officer close by. Also, my fish club is pretty handy.
-
Calm down there fellas, no need to worry as i wont have any state issued anklets to wear as it appears i am getting out due to a technicality, seems if the glove don't fit ya gotta acquit so i am free and clear....like it was said in The Shawshank Redemption, I'm innocent...
Although if i was h20 i would not wear the speedo...just sayin.....
-
Myself ,Mfowl and my girlfriend will be there again so let us know if any last min things are still needed I'll bring some garbage bags too. We may try and fish/crab before the festivities begin and hope to bring some seafood as well.

True story while we are on the subject...
Few years agao I got the invite to run out for silvers one evening after work. Both guys are techs that I work with. We met up at Edmonds to launch and I had my gear in a duffel. We get to motoring out and I announce that it is time to get out of my work clothes and into my fishing gear. I say if you all want a show, feel free, if not, better keep your eyes ahead. Well I did just happen to have a blue speedo with me. I stripped down, donned the man sling, and put my shoes back on. I walk into the cabin and take a perch right next to my buddy driving. The double take and expletives that came out of his mouth were priceless. We had a chuckle and I went back to stern to put on proper clothes. I even got a few cat calls from a neighboring sail boat that had some gals on deck...they were a little further on in years so it didn't take much to make an impression. Ah, good times.

I even got a few cat calls from a neighboring sail boat that had some gals on deck...they were a little further on in years so it didn't take much to make an impression. Ah, good times.
If only you had the team jacob shirt also....epic....
-
Don't need that image. I can't believe he admitted to actually owning a speedo.
I wonder if he wore it around D-Rocks elk camp last season? :dunno:
Carl & Buckmark, you have a special treat coming during this crab trip. Especially if H20 brings his magic duffle bag with him.

HAHA oh man, yeah that would somehow make it so so much better.

What happens in elk camp stays in elk camp.

You crazy kids.....
Besides. Joe already told me if I bring it along with an appropiate cowboy hat this is my year to drive the tractor.

She thinks my tractors sexy....

I'll put a towel down. Also....if you play your cards right maybe I'll take you for a spin. Just don't tell you know who....

OKAY EVERYONE IS GONNA WANNA WATCH THIS!
I found my phone video from last year's Keg Toss and uploaded it to YouTube... I edited out inappropriate conversations by H20 :chuckle: and curse words so it should be good to go. What you can learn from this video:
1) how much dang fun last year was, I'm laughing so freaking hard watching this.
2) why you should come this year.
3) and finally, how to cheat and figure out everyone's form from last year's toss and how to beat them!! :chuckle:
Enjoy ;)

With more folks in the area, we'll need to be mindful of where the little ones are. It would be bad if one wandered into the path of a flying keg. We had the keg out early last year. For some reason we didn't get to it until dark.
-
What is the count for attendance now?
-
I might make it, what is needed for pot luck? Thanks, Jerry

Did you do any improvements to the horseshoe pit since last year?
There were a few occasions where elk247 and I were diving for cover from our opponents toss.
-
More importantly......G-eye. I'm gonna need two things. A) corned goose B) a ride home.

I was actually there last year just early before the rowdy crowd got there. I left shortly after H2O showed up. Thank goodness :chuckle:. I am not going to make it this year for sure. I am heading out for a family reunion in Minnesota so I have to get all packed up Saturday. I hope everyone has a blast. I remember there was some awesome food there and the duck jerkey was flipping awesome. I had never had it before. Next year I will try to make it though. Hope no one hurts themselves from the keg toss.
-
Fishhtiq, I'm not going to be able to make it. We've got too much going on here and a Hunter Ed class besides. 8+ hours driving would kill me. Sorry and I hope y'all have a great time.

Probably not the best plan to ask H20 to "whip up" or whip out anything tomorrow. Remember his banana hammock story... :yike:
-
Easy now....I don't want to make everyone laugh to hard....
-
Cutting the grass today, setting up awnings, placing the crapper, putting up parking/no parking signs, re-warning the neighbors......
Also, someone might be leaving here with a chicken as a prize... :chuckle:
The sun just came out here, should be a beautiful weekend!
-
Joe...if you could pick/suggest a ballpark goal to have the crab there I'm all ears. We should be done by late morning with plenty of time to get myself squared away and over there.

Do you have enough pots?

Yep....Buckmark may soak two overnight and then I'll bring out 4. With three guys turning over a six pot string we should knock it out pretty easily.....knock on wood.
-
OK, just making sure you didn't need more.
-
I won't be there until 2-3ish. Leave some bbq for me! :chuckle:

What time are the festivities getting started today? :dunno:
I believe fishstiq put 10:30 or 11:00 as the opening. I didn't get done with poker until 3:30 this morning. I plan to show up @ 11:00 to 11:30 because I'm dragging a little this morning.

Sounds like a good time had by all, just could not fit everything i had to get done into one day and had to miss this year.
Did get up at 5am to get crab for the event with h20, hopefully everyone got to eat some..
See ya next year...
-
It was great to see everyone again and consume as much of the fantastic food as was humanly possible.
Thanks to all for the time, effort, and expense put into the food prep.
Joe and April, you're the epitome of perfect hosts. I can't thank you enough for opening your home to a bunch, like us!
I hope you two can get some recovery time soon.

What a good time.
Nice to meet Run.....very cool that you stopped by to say hello.
To much food, to good, even the high octane cherries had their place. Wish I could have eaten more but I'm only one man.
Forgot my bow, Hogcraw awards, but remembered the crab.
Elk (Joel) knows a less talkative Cat than one would expect based on his phone and my use of it.
Joe and his lovely wife are of course awesome hosts as usual.
Bwana Bob had even better kabobs than last year.
My son is an amazing ax thrower.
I'm apparently a ringer, pun intended, in throwing 'shoes. First game, first throw, double ringer. Last game, last throw, double ringer. Respect yo.
Smossy looks liken an angy elf with his beard.
I didn't get to drive the tractor, again, but it seems everyone else did.
There was lots more beer that I wanted, but not really, to sample and very much could have.
The bbq was awesome.
I didn't get a chance to use the honey bucket but secretly wanted to.
Everyone likes crab, and boy did we cook some. Joe clearly needed my help in getting the crab just right in the pot.
Elks dog poo'd in the middle of the yard. Everyone watched the whole thing go down.
I'm sure I'm missing things....there was a lot going on, shooting bows, throwing kegs, just to much to mention. I look forward to next year.
Huge thanks to Joe and his wife. Great to see everyone that I've met before and those that were new. Here is Carl with a few crab from that morning.

You missed tractor driving, hanging out at the fire, axe throwing in the dark, a game of who's getting the mop headed chicken, and other fun stuff.
Why'd you leave so early? Did you get in trouble with Mrs. H20 and have your kitchen pass revoked?
-
Was good meeting you too H2O I was in a hurry to get to the beach....I forgot my camera....I am so not a photographer have 4 cameras and rarely ever have one with me...

Nah...the misses enjoyed herself and was of course very impressed with the display in the 'shoe pit. Had an early morning on Sat and another one yesterday. Needed to get the kids off to bed and if I would have stayed I would have been in rough shape the next day. With good times like that boy does the beer go down with a little shine oh so easy!

I know we had a great time, and thanks to all who brought and cooked all the delicious food. Per usual Joe and April you two are amazing hosts for lettin us all gather at your place :). It was a bit smaller this year but some great convos going on all around, was looking forward to meeting a few that weren't able to make it but there's always next year ;)
We do have a new keg tossing champ - Elk247 smoked it.
Dartchery champs - scottcrb and mfowl
New horseshoe king - h20hunter
I'm just going to declare myself a winner at the hatchet toss :chuckle: jk. I don't know who got tops at that.
Speaking of pictures.....was anyone taking any?
Yes a few blurry phone pics, no video this year, and unfortunately no keg-toss-in-action pics for some reason.
