Remington Arms Company, has just announced a voluntary
recall of Model 700 and Model Seven rifles with X-Mark Pro triggers, manufactured from May 1, 2006 to April 9, 2014.
-
Interesting, hasn't Remington always vehemently denied accusations of their model 700s having accidental discharge problems? I own a few myself. :yike:
-
This appears to be a different issue. I don't think the misfire allegations that MSNBC did the story on and all the controversy around it has to do with the X-Mark Pro Trigger, I think it was earlier system. Ironically I think Remington went to the X Mark due to the controversy and MSCBC story and now there is a recall on the "newer" system. huh

I wonder if the modifications (Wyatt mag box, and action bedding) I have made to my 700 will affect the recall repairs?
Im going to give them a call monday am and see.

They have bad discharge problems! My buddy took his off safety while getting ready to shoot a deer and BAM went off w/o touching the trigger.
-
Why cant Rem. have this issue taken care of with the aid of local gunsmiths.Everyone sending their rifles in to Rem. to have them look at them :yike: seems quite excessive to me.Think of all the PAPER work. :dunno:

My brother had the same thing happen. He bought a timney trigger.
-
Many of the problems with the triggers were caused by people adjusting on them that didn't really know what they were doing and, unfortunately, Remington was the one that got blamed.

I put a Timney trigger with safety on my Mod.700 a # of years ago.I have had the rifle since 1977 and its a reliable and tough action.I shot the first barrel out after 15 years and replaced the stock with a Carlson about '82 after finding out that wood is about as durable and stable as a noodle in rough terrain and weather. For those who adjusted their triggers to less than 3#'s they get what they deserved by not listening to Remington. How many of those same characters adjusted their car brakes to not work and then sued Ford,GM or whoever?I asked my G.smith what was a good way to adjust that trigger as I was getting some creep in it after many rounds and he said, replace it.It could be adjusted to be lighter than recommended and have less creep as it wore down the sear but he pointed out the fact that if you pulled the trigger while on safety it wouldn't fire but when you took it off of safety without pushing the trigger forward,it would fire without pulling the trigger.I tried adjusting it,just to see and sure enough it did fire. I have never pulled the trigger of any firearm to see if it would fire unless it was unloaded and pointed in a safe direction, too.

Great my XCR is on the list
Anyone know the following
Do I need to strip it down ?
and how the heck do you fill out that crazy form anyway?

8 years worth of production, ridiculous… I'll be buying a Timney trigger before I send mine back to Remington. I can only imagine what the turnaround time will be if you send it back to Remington...

Pretty much what im thinking
-
Timneys are relatively cheap I think $120 with a safety installed. Get the one with the safety installed!!! No telling how long the wait is to get your gun back from remington.
-
We had a problem with my son's 700. He was shooting it from the bench and it did not fire even though the safety was in the forward position. While he stayed in shooting position I touched the safety and the rifle discharged. We bought a Timney trigger as a replacement. When we were taking the original trigger out a circlip fell off it during extraction. I don't know if it had already come off or was knocked off while removing the action from the stock.
We installed the Timney but now the bolt release button is sticky at times so we are going to bed the action and increase the clearance around the trigger group.
I have a 700 from the '70s and have never had this problem.

I would just pull it apart and send them just the barreled action. Should be all they really need since the issue has to do with just the trigger assembly.
-
The more I think of t the more I like the idea of buying a Timney... of course I will need 2 since both my 700s have a trigger recall...
-
A buddy of mine just bought a used Sendero with the X-Mark trigger on there. The first thing he did was adjust the pull down until it was very light. Sure enough, we went out and it fired when he was cycling the bolt pretty aggressively. I pulled it out of the stock and adjusted the weight a little higher for him and that fixed the problem. He had it down below 3# and that's when it gave him problems.
The recall probably wouldn't be necessary if everyone just followed the instructions.

the timmeny upgrade would be my choice , but mine already has one.

My .17 Fireball is a 700 Remington, and I adjusted it down to a lighter trigger pull. So far, no problems, but if I ever do, I'll just put a Timney in it. I'd never send a gun back to Remington. If you have expensive custom parts on them, they might replace them with stock parts, and not send the good parts back! I know a target shooter who had that very thing happen to a gun he sent in for repair...
-
Remingtons sure arent what they used to be..this will further their rep even more, which is to bad for remington..the actions are still great for a building on!
-
The one bright spot (If there is one--) is that the recall notice comes from their new address down south. New York finally got bad enough to drive away a business that has called NY home for over 100 years! :chuckle:
-
I think we should be giving Remington a pat of the corporate back. They recognized an issue of a bonding agent getting where it didn't belong and are recalling the rifles to fix them at their expense; including shipping both ways. When you compare that to recent auto recalls that the company hid from consumers for five years while people were getting injured or killed in their cars, it speaks well for Remington. This really isn't a trigger issue as much as it is "gunk" in the trigger that is fouling the works. If you have one of these rifles jump on the change for Remington to clean it up for you on the off season. My experience in dealing with Remington's people, both on the phone and in person, has always been positive and I bet this recall is handled efficiently.

Recently sent back 80+ guns back to them.. Wont send any of my personal guns back. Better to put Timneys in the last few, then wait however long for a repair..

Multiply that by the number of guns sent in--no thank you. Timney refit for me....

Never heard of any trigger problems with a Tikka yet?

In the time it would take to change the trigger one could just check the factory setup.....That said the Timney is a slight upgrade.

Timney is a huge upgrade, imho

Uh, yeah..really..
Not a Jewel, but definetly better then the XPro!

A gunsmith once told me that the best way to fix a CZ or Remington 700 is a Timney. That beig said, I never had a problem with my 700, once we lightened up the trigger pull so you didn't have to hit the trigger with a rock to get it to fire. I shot a friend's AR that had a Timney trigger, and it was nice, but I liked my Rock River NM triggers better....
