We'll I wasn't fortunate enough to draw my spring bear but I was nice enough to go down and put in for my step dad while he was out of town, of course he drew. First year for both of us up in hancock. Any hints on their spring habits. Not asking for secret spots. Just curious if any body has learned about them hancock bears and their springtime rituals. Up high? Down low? All over? Any help that can get me started on my leg work would be appreciated

Good luck to your step dad! I drew also, maybe I'll see you around.

I got drawn ,picked my permit today ... just FYI the cell reception is sketchy around there .... see you around - if you see red F250 with white canopy come and say Hi .
-
Any luck up there for either of you thus far?
Went up friday and saturday, not much to speak of yet, save for one old pile. Only highlight was finding an antler....outside of an escapement area I swear :chuckle:
-
I would spend some time on the 500 road (main gate side obviously), usually walk in only. I don't think its open even during spring bear or wasn't when I drew. After a mile or so in you should start seeing bear peels, and good sign on the road.

Last year the 5000 road was drivable during spring bear season. Good place to start though agreed.

Any luck yet? I drew that tag also.. let me know if you need a partner

Hi folks,
I also drew for Kapowsin. When do you usually see the mating season start? I was out there a few times, saw some sign but no bears yet.
I am the white range rover.

Hell I thought some greenie bought a Kapowsin pass, I stand corrected. :chuckle:
Be up there tomorrow/Friday. White jeep
-
Yes. My tactics are: make the big boar think I am a greenie and then give him one with my lady gun Merkel K2. ;)
-
I'm in there tonight I'll look for you boys
-
Anyone have any luck yet? I was down there Sunday and saw only one other rig, some deer and some older bear sign
-
I've found a lot of old peels , 1-2 yrs. old , and one fresh pile of scat , no fresh peels yet . I'll be in there tomorrow night and Thur. night . Any body have an idea of when the fawns may be dropping ?

If it helps at all, the bears in Kapowsin are starting the tree peeling now. I found a few of these this last weekend along with lots of fresh scat.

Woodman did you draw a spring tag? What time of the day did you see that bear roaming the roads?

No tag for me this year, hoping for next year. The bear roaming the road was in the middle of the day.
-
Well best of luck to you on the draw next year. Tomorrow morning will be my first time in the gates with a tag. Never been up there. Lots of miles on the boots bright and early.

Judging from the size of that tree I may be an area that is a little to old , need to find smaller trees .
-
We've seen some fresh peels on the Lynch Creek side, and a few bears on the road. Been beating the brush for antlers, and there is alot of fresh sign everywhere.
-
No luck this morning, lots of deer and a couple elk tho.. anyone else??
-
Been up there 5-6 times now. Hung some cameras and only elk showed themselves. Lots of scat showing up on the roads that wasn't there the week before. I think the warm weather finally got the bears moving a little. Hopefully should be getting better in the next couple of weeks. Anybody go up Tuesday or Wednesday when the sun was out?
-
I was up there Monday afternoon , only saw some deer . My week end is screwed up but I'll be in there Mon. , Tue., and Wed. afternoon . Judging from some of the pictures on this thread and another tread I'm in the wrong area . If you see a blue Jeep Cherokee driving around with a guy looking confused that'll be me , could you stop point me in the right direction . ;)
-
I'm gonna go up Saturday afternoon and as much after work next week as possible. Warmer weather is coming!!!

We saw some last weekend but nothing new at all this weekend. We've mostly stayed down the 500 and 6000 rds. Any recommendations. I think we are gonna venture further in later this week.

Thank you! learned alot from this permit thats for sure! Cant wait for Fall season in there!
Pygmy- thats a good looking bear!
-
Great bears you guys! Woodman is like the bear whisperer in kapowsin, I know where he hangs out but I'll keep my peep hole shut haha. My buddy got one in there a few weeks back Im not sure if he's a hunt wa guy but maybe he will let me post it up for him. Good luck everyone these next few weeks.
-
Does anybody have an idea where the bears went? I saw them move to higher altitudes but now I see no more sign. I passed on a dark chocolate bear that I felt was too young about a week ago. But since then I have not seen much sign at all.
-
The low bears are still low.
-
I've yet to turn one up, hopefully this weekend, been seeing lots of sign.
-
She was 3 legged and pretty beat up but finally dropped my first bear.(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.tapatalk.com%2Fd%2F14%2F06%2F06%2F2e4una7u.jpg&hash=946b2d3a58d3a476b2f838cf6df670c91e278d47)(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.tapatalk.com%2Fd%2F14%2F06%2F06%2F4ysusane.jpg&hash=2ee7a3aadaa8121bee4f1917efdd01ad5584bc52)(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.tapatalk.com%2Fd%2F14%2F06%2F06%2Fameqyzav.jpg&hash=7fd86cd92af135457da2da0db595f8bd285e01be)

The taxidermy thinks she was born that way and somehow has made it 10+ years like that. Trooper!!!

Little three legged bear hangs around the office every year up there. Looks like maybe not any more . What's going on with her coat? Rubbing already ?
-
Buddy of mine got a decent size sow up there last evening. They are moving pretty good now. Good luck to everyone
-
On the sides of her body and face was worn off. Looked like rubbing and maybe some age. I got the same problem:)
