Title: Kapowsin spring bears
Post by: high voltage on April 16, 2014, 12:20:12 PM: We'll I wasn't fortunate enough to draw my spring bear but I was nice enough to go down and put in for my step dad while he was out of town, of course he drew. First year for both of us up in hancock. Any hints on their spring habits. Not asking for secret spots. Just curious if any body has learned about them hancock bears and their springtime rituals. Up high? Down low? All over? Any help that can get me started on my leg work would be appreciated

Went up friday and saturday, not much to speak of yet, save for one old pile. Only highlight was finding an antler....outside of an escapement area I swear :chuckle:

Post by: Crunchy on April 26, 2014, 11:18:16 PM: I would spend some time on the 500 road (main gate side obviously), usually walk in only. I don't think its open even during spring bear or wasn't when I drew. After a mile or so in you should start seeing bear peels, and good sign on the road.

my experience has been when the tops of young firs are getting bent over its mating season. around june 1. find the food :tup:

If it helps at all, the bears in Kapowsin are starting the tree peeling now. I found a few of these this last weekend along with lots of fresh scat.

No tag for me this year, hoping for next year. The bear roaming the road was in the middle of the day.

Post by: shmeegs80 on May 08, 2014, 02:31:05 PM: Been up there 5-6 times now. Hung some cameras and only elk showed themselves. Lots of scat showing up on the roads that wasn't there the week before. I think the warm weather finally got the bears moving a little. Hopefully should be getting better in the next couple of weeks. Anybody go up Tuesday or Wednesday when the sun was out?

Judging from some of the pictures on this thread and another tread I'm in the wrong area . If you see a blue Jeep Cherokee driving around with a guy looking confused that'll be me , could you stop point me in the right direction . ;)

varies year to year. Good chance now until end of June. :yike: White Range Rover.Won't be after you load a stinky ole bear in it :bdid:

I passed on a dark chocolate bear that I felt was too young about a week ago. But since then I have not seen much sign at all.
