Title: Snow melt in 49 degrees?
Post by: teegansdad on April 22, 2014, 05:20:35 PM: Any one have any info on 49 degrees north? I have two spring bear tags, we plan on heading over May 10th has the snow melted enough yet for yogi to come out and play?

Post by: CAMPMEAT on April 22, 2014, 05:26:26 PM: My very best guess is, no. There is still plenty of snow around my house in the higher elevations and it's still not passable, not even on our ATV's.. I'm at 2200'. Try and call the lodge at 49 degrees or the Chamber of Commerce in Chewelah.

Post by: Lingcod on April 22, 2014, 07:12:32 PM: I too have a spring bear tag for 49DN, I have kept a close eye on the mountain. Still too much snow up there, but have heard of a few bears out :tup: I'll be up there same weekend, let me know if you need help dragging that big bear out :)

Sure is with good green grass.. I think if you stay low you would have a pretty good chance of bumping into one... I think next week with the warm weather is really going to get them moving..

Post by: bearpaw on April 22, 2014, 10:45:29 PM: May 10th should work unless we have a continued cold front and rain that has arrived this week. I've already seen one fresh pile of bear poo, earlier than ever before. I think the whole spring is a week or two ahead of normal.

Post by: magnus100 on April 26, 2014, 09:49:30 AM: We made a day of driving thru 49 last thursday. My dad(81) has a tag so we are only road hunting. Saw lots of Moose but no bears or tracks crossing roads. We will give it a drive again next week.

Same boat as you, same results, except in Huckleberry. Difference is quite a few of the high roads are completely open.

Post by: BiggMayn on April 30, 2014, 08:55:31 PM: I was all over 49d last weekend (3 full days) and didn't even see any sign :dunno: Ran into two other guys and they hadn't seen anything either. I'm planning to head back over the last weekend of May. Hopefully they'll be out in force by then.
