Title: DIY tent making
Post by: rosscrazyelk on April 22, 2014, 07:18:44 PM
I have looked up several sites and looked at all the materials to make.
I Have a huge old military parachute and am wondering is the material from a parachute water resistant?
Good enough to make a tent like the teepee tents that are on the market now ?
I have not been able to find out if it is weather resistant or not.

Parachutes are not water proof but can be a little resistant depending on how old it is. You can impregnate them with silicone or other products but you will lose some of it's breathability. USAF has training manuals that show using their parachutes as a survival shelter. They would make for a great warm weather tent but unfortunately that's about it. Hope that helps
