To refresh everybody's memory, last May I won the Big Bucks for Josh II auction for a day with boneaddict photographing big bucks. Well, we met up on the 19th of November and headed out. We started out rattling for whitetails and on the first try, bone had two bucks come crashing in to us. They finally stopped when they were about 15yds away. Unfortunately, it was too dark for pictures. Bone's other good whitetail spots either had been logged recently or were currently being logged, so we moved on to mule deer. Right away we got into some nice bucks and Bone even let me use his 400 2.8 lens (now I think I am going to have to buy one for myself).
These first 3 pics were taken with bone's lens.

As you can probably tell, these were taken with my 400 5.6 lens.

We ran into some bonus moose. This guy sure looks out of place.

We rounded a few corners and ran into these calves.

This buck has a lot of character. I would like to see him in a few years

These were the last nice bucks we saw. The bottom buck was the dominate buck. He kept running the other buck away from the does.

The bigger horned, subordinate buck.

Considering the nice weather we had, I think we did pretty good to see the amount of bucks that we did. All in all, it was a blast hanging out with boneaddict, learning from him and hearing some good stories. And oh yeah, he really does beat the living crap out of his truck!
-
GREAT PICS! Looks like you two had a great time out there!
-
Great Post, thanks for sharing Timber!
-
Sweet man you did get some great pics! I am glad you had a good time. It was very much a pleasure spending the day with you as well. I'll see what I can do to adding to the pile of pics. We went out yesterday, Hound and I for round two. Same weather and almost the same story. The whitetails were NOT cooperating. FInally on about the 8th and last rattling set, we got one to come in. Saw the little moose again and this time MOM was with them. I am glad she was fine. We saw one JIM DANDY, about 300 yards down the hill from where you and I saw sticker buck. Same situation. I just said you are entering big buck alley, if you see a buck here he will be a big one. 3 seconds later :yike: We had multiple views of him, but he had been shot at before. He wanted nothing to do with us. We played tag back and forth. He went down the mountain, so did we, the we pushed him back up. He was solo, so no does to distract him. He was pushing thirty inches. I figured about 29.5. He was a little weak in the forks, but had one hell of a frame. A good 170 buck I bet. I told Hound to quit trying to get him on film and just enjoy him as he was in the thick and would never hold still. That was probably a highlite of the trip. We rattled in that whitetail and that was exciting. He also wanted to see some moose and dang if we didn't. I told him he would have a much better chance seeing elk, and we didn't see a one. I still don't know what is up with the whitetails. Not many rubs either. :dunno: We ended the day with 23 bucks, three moose, 6 coyotes and 2 bobcats, acutally 7 coyotes if you count the one I tagged with my truck on the way there. Timber and I lost count on how many bucks we saw, we were haveing so much fun.
Great pics!

By the way, I had a great time out there....Both trips. I am not sure if I should have two threads, one for each trip or go with it all in one, since it was one auction. I am almost thinking of two threads just because they will be so photo heavy. Man I love the sun or shine on that guys antlers. I am thinking you should get a new lens and then we will try it again.
here are a couple of the moose.
VERY COOL that we found this guy. Timber spotted his antlers and said there is one. I saw the bone and thought HOLY CRAP thats a big one, but I thought he was hiding in front of a stump. You have to realize there was alot of sage and its not like he was in the wide open. In fact I thought he was bedded, but he was standing.

Then after that was exciting I couldn't believe it when we ran into these guys down the road. I was like HOLY MOLY! :chuckle:

No not you. There was a 4 point in the bush with a broken main beam on one side. We were trying to sort them out in the tall sage. These two wanted to play but where was the bigger one?

We chased him through the bush for a bit but lost him. the rest of the deer came out in the open but he was nowhere to be found. We decided to head back tot he truck but I wanted to do a little drive in the deep stuff in case he was waiting us out. Instead of him we found something else......

I gave my lens to Timber so I didn't get any pics of the four point we flushed. He is the nice buck Timber started this thread with(4 point with shiny bones)
-
As Timber stated. I can't wait to see this buck in 2 or three years. WOW!!! Timber got the best shot of this guy after stalking him up the hill.

Gret pictures guys! Looks like a very fun day to me.

Thanks Searchnfor. I think Timber might be looking at lenses. :o
Towards the end of the day we ran into these guys. Timber got way closer than I did, but I enjoyed sitting up on the hill and watching.

lot of nice bucks there
-
Awesome pictures guys. Some real nice critters there. I especially like the cheater buck. I agrre with Jon and would like to see what he'll look like in 2-3 years. He looks like a young buck with lots of potential. Jon, you should have never looked through that fancy lens of Boneaddict's. I did the same thing when I looked through "searchnfor's" swarovski binos. I knew I had to get me a pair though I'm guessing that lens is far more pricey than a pair of binos. When it comes to good glass, you definately get what you pay for!!! Great trip and nice pics.
-
great work gentlemen...i love that sticker buck...he should be a monster in a few years.
-
Look like you guys had a great time :)
-
O.K. bone, if you don't stop posting your pics my credit card is going to take a major hit! Your comment about walking back to the truck reminded me of this photo.
-
Great pics guys, that one with the trash is a beautiful young buck, second the couple of years. Thanks for sharing.
WACAT

:chuckle: That was funny. Thats TWICE this year that the buck walked by my parked truck. LOL
I think I might start a thread on its own for stickers.....watch for him

ROUND TWO.........................
Houndhunter and I went a couple days later. We had a slow start. Again bluebird weather. Bit chilly, but CLEAR. Anyhow after 7 rattling stands this guide was starting to pucker. I now know why I don't guide. I promised this young man some dandy bucks and so far nothing. We finally spotted a little snapper from the road. I had one more rattling stand in one hell of an animal crossing. You can see elk, muleys or whitetails in this spot at any given time. Just as I finished the first clash of antlers, I spotted this guy. He had come in fast and quiet. I got hounds attention and we watched him circle us. Sorry, I didn't even raise the camera as I wanted to make sure hound got to see him. He was a mid sized whitey. Then we were off to muley country. Poor Hound had to listen to my muley advice all day. We saw a couple more snappers, and then changed scenery a bit. We got down into the breaks and parked and began our glassing. It wasn't long before we spotted some critters including a decent buck coming in. This is a LONG WAYS away guys, so sorry for the quality.....

-
We kept glassing and then I spotted one through the spotter, which I rarely use that you would never have seen with the binos. I was checking around a doe we had found bedded and sure enough there he was facing away. I wish I could have gotten him on film as it was a pretty cool shot, but no way would you have been able to see it. We were enjoying looking for more when I spotted up another doing the same thing. COULD NOT get that sucker to look at us. I slammed the bones together a few times and the does he was with looked, but not him. He was too busy sleeping off the night before. I never dod get to see what he looked like from the front but was pretty massive. We got tired of looking at bucks that we would never get on film and headed on. If we would have planned a stalk it would have taken the rest of the day. We headed down the road.......
-
we ran into this guy...

Just down the road all sorts of action started. I think I am going to go chase sheep though, so I will be back...........
-
 Great pictures guys...My season is done, but does this get my blood flowing and psyched about next year...or heck trying to get my own pictures. Thanks for sharing.

After trying to catch sheep in the rocks this morning, I have a new respect for those critters. So we were blazing along and we spot a small buck ....

the deer mosied up the hill and low and behold another buck. A busted two. He was the dominant one over this fellow. He ran both of them off and had a nice little harem to himself.

Great pics guys.
Bone tell me thats not a whitetail doe :yike:
-
Yep, he was missing something.......
Then we moved on and went back to glass to see if we could find any more bedded down. Kicked some does, but no bucks. On our way back we passed this little guy somewhere along the way. I will add him to the nice genetics file. He is a young one with lots of potential. these are the type of bucks we are hammering from the gene pool with the three point or better rule. Don't get me wrong, I like that rule.
(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv47%2Fboneaddict%2Fanotherexamplegoodgenetics.jpg&hash=329835dc14d97e4a5d8b7b2656ef569d7dfc60eb)
That IS a whitetail doe. Not really their area but I have seen two of them there. Believe my bone stories or not, but not far from here there was one of the largest whitetails I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. He was a 30 incher. NOT *censored*TING you. I had ins with the wildlife manager of this area and he had seen it two consequetive years in a row doing a deer count. One I didn't believe him where it was and two I didn't believe him that it was a thirty incher. I figured about 25 or something like that. OH HELL NO. He was that big. What a monster....anyways, no pics to back it up so just have to believe Bone and the fact he doesn't exaggerate much.
-
the day progressed and we went through alot of country where I always see bucks. NOTHING...... Then this guy reared his ugly little head.
(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv47%2Fboneaddict%2Fnont.jpg&hash=f0cb7bc19bc21cb77adfa4ea768fef32b6160355)

When he turned and ran, I thought a nontypical like a whitetail, but I guess that was just his back tine. Hound thought the same thing....

This is when it happened. I was just explaining to hound how we were in big buck alley and if we were to see a buck it would be a big one. We had just seen a group of about 6-8 does but no buck around. I though that was weird. Then all of a sudden, standing there Mr regal was a Near 30 incher. i bet he was 29 at least, maybe not quite thirty, but it wasn't like he stood for long and let us look at him. He bailed over the hill and we tried to parallel him. he then dove off the moutain, so we whipped around on the road and got back below him. We were fortunate to jump hiim again and see him. I told hound to put the camera down and just enjoy him as there was no way he was going to let us take his pic. He had been shot at way too many times. Very nice deer. I am hoping that is one of Hounds biggest bucks or at least widest. he was a dandy. he was average mass but a little weak in all the forks. he was a 4.5 year old deer by the looks of him so in two years. :yike: I bet he was pushing 170 just from his frame. NICE. I don't recall what his eyeguards were.
-
the next buck besides a couple small ones was this fellow.....we got to watch him quite some time. Hound got pretty close I think.

Next highlite of the trip was when we rounded the corner on our way off the mountain. Not very far at all from where Timber and I spotted the bull and little female calves, here they were with Mom. I was glad she was still with us.

Only been on the site for a month now, but damn I sure do love looking at your pics. Your equipment is amazing getting pics like that. Keep them coming and thanks for giving those of us who had to settle for a doe or nothing some great hope for next year!!!!!!!!!
-
Great pics guys
-
Thanks guys. Make sure you go deep in the photography thread. There are alot of pictures in there from alot of guys. This is the first year of having a fancy lens. Nothing beats getting up close and personal. It really helps honing those hunting skills in the off season. What the big lens does is help me doucment bucks I could never have before in low light conditions or that are too far away.

a misc one from the trip...

>:( LOST my rattling antlers. Had them in the back of the truck along with my tripod when I parked on 410 to climb Clemans. SOMEBODY stole them out of the back of my truck. CRAP!!! Not like I don't ahve other sheds, but damn those worked good. By the way, they left the tripod.

Great Photo's...Thanks for sharing

best wishes as always

Hey Robodad, have you seen these yet?
Bone I just had a look at this entire thread and all I can say is "amazing" Looks like you guys had an absolute blast out there taking pictures.
I must say Thank You very much on Josh's behalf for this adventure and for putting up your time and services for the benefit of my brothers family, I should also say a huge thank you to Timber and Houndhunter for putting up the money during the auction, you have no idea how much your support helped their family cope with the stress of this situation.
Thank you so much guys, You are the greatest !!!

It was well worth it. I had alot in common with these guys already, and if it weren't for Josh, we'd probably never met. I'm sure Timber and I will do more shooting together as we are often in the same neck of the woods. I'd like to do a moose hunt with him in the future. I also think Hound and I might land a chum or two together sometime.
