I just ordered my 8 year old daughter a Savage Rascal (22 Long Rifle.) Just curious if anyone else has one of these?
I chose it for a couple of reasons. Most importantly, it's small size. Length of pull is only 11.25 inches. Weight is 2.6 pounds. A couple other features that sold me on it: First, it has the Accutrigger, and comes set at 2.5 pounds. Second, it cocks when the bolt is opened, instead of having to manually cock it in a separate step.
There are several colors available. My daughter chose the green:

Love the features in the Rascal. My 9 year grandaughter wants the blue stock version. The light weight, length of pull are perfect for getting the girls and the boys into shooting sports. The trigger is awsome. Be sure to post a review when your daughter shoots hers. I,m on the hunt for the blue one. regards Hub

I've got one that my almost 7 year old son uses. My 4 year old also uses it, with a little help. Great gun, no problems ever. The 7 year old runs it on his own and fits him fine. Triggers good, and I like him learning on a single shot. It slows him down when he gets excited shooting. I like it better then the crickett.
The only thing that he has "issues" with is the peep sight. I have a hard time convincing him not to get his face right up to it. It's got the small aperture, so he wants to get close to see the big picture. It's not a problem with this firearm, but if I don't break him of the habit, he's going to scope himself when he steps up to something bigger.
A couple pics of him running it.

My daughter didn't like that it doesn't come with a "telescope." :chuckle:
I may put a scope on it for her eventually, but I want her to learn to shoot the peep sight first. That's another reason I liked it- it comes drilled and tapped for a scope, so it will be easy to add a scope if I decide to.
For now though I want the gun as light as possible. My daugther is eight but she's tiny- probably half the size of the average eight year old.
