Title: Single pin Hoggfather for hunting?
Post by: DIYARCHERYJUNKIE on May 05, 2014, 06:32:39 AM: I just ordered my new sight a micro pin green hoggfather. 339 shipped. Any opinions on hunting with these? Can't wait to put it on my new bow. Thanks for any tips or info.

Post by: MtnMuley on May 05, 2014, 08:13:14 AM: One of the top sights on the market in my opinion. As for hunting, I personally like at least three pins, even if it's a slider. A little heavier that other sights, but for the most part, you should love it. :tup:

At 20 it's about 3" high and at 50 it's about 7-8" low. Anything outside of 50 I should have time to range and dial it. It's takes some practice knowing where it shoots but it's pretty easy to be accurate enough for a good kill shot.

:tup: That's the way I run my sliders too.

Just remember to reset your 30 after a long shot. CL & I were roving one day during mid day deer season. Last shot we took was 80 yards. Later that evening I had a nice little buck at 30 yards. I think that arrow might still be going as it was headed for orbit. Still can't believe I didn't notice, but maybe I was a little excited :chuckle:

Depends on how low your anchor point is. My faster bows I get a 142 yard setting. I think CL gets about 120. And then you can add another peep AKA Alwinearcher and hit 300 yards :o Buy five or six RAD peeps...their cheap! :chuckle:

Post by: xXLojackXx on May 05, 2014, 08:47:08 PM: I get about 128 yards before my fletchings will rub the pin housing. Practicing at 130 makes 80 yards a chip shot. Love the sight though, no slop at all in the dial. The biggest thing is to get the most accurate measurements of your set up (have a friend help you if you don't have a hooter shooter) and your Archers Advantage tapes will be pretty much dead on the first time. Sometimes it take a little tweaking between your close and long range sight in numbers to match your arrow speed, but it's easy to do. And comes out on the money.

I lost an arrow last week shooting my 130 pin at 45 yards after showing my buddy how it works. Got busy talking and not paying attention. That arrow is somehwere out in the woods out back :chuckle: :bash:

THis sight cost more than my bow I hunted with for the last 6 years! My trophy ridge drop away came as well. Now just waiting on my bow. thanks for all the insight, it lets me know what to expect.
