Title: The Islands?
Post by: TeacherMan on November 26, 2008, 12:37:24 PM
Does anyone hunt in the San Juans? I tried bowhunting Orcas last Thanksgiving and saw tons of deer but no legal area...

What are your thoughts on this area... I have just been looking for an area with a high buck population and I know they are there, but the never ending factor, public land... :bash:

I feed a carrot to a 4 pt. on Orcas once.  He wouldn’t take it from my hand but almost.

If you have access to some private land it would be pretty easy hunting but I don’t know of any public land and most of the population are tree huggers that don’t go for killing poor little deer.

Take your boat to Cypress....something like 4000 acres of DNR land on the island. I'd launch in launch in Anacortes and run up to the island for a day trip or overnighter. I can't recall for sure, but I think the run from Anacortes is only an hour or so. A trip like this is on my radar screen, but I haven't done it yet.

Thanks little fish, its on my list to do's know... I have a 17 alumaweld, it should be big enough to do the trip in decent weather.   ;)
