My buddy and I drew early archery tags in area 6 of Nevada. We plan on making one or two scouting trips ahead of the season. Our goal is to find the most remote spot possible and go for it. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Andrew L.

Early ______ tags.... :dunno:
elk, deer, ??

Area 6? Don't the unit numbers start at 11?
-
It's for archery deer and area 6 are the units 061,062,065,068. Northwest of Elko, NV

That's what I was wondering. I'll be heading by that country on the way to my 221-223 late hunt rifle hunt and possibly scouting next month.

Good luck on your hunt and on the scouting Halo!

Good luck to you guy's, I may be able to come up with some info on your hunt, if I do I'll let you know.
-
That would be awesome! If I come across anything for your hunt in my research I will let you know as well! Andrew
-
tough hunt from the research I have done, I do have a buddy who has hunted units near there and a quad is a must he said...they use them daily to cover the massive terrain to find bucks.
-
My brother lives down there and has seen some monsters I will get in touch with him and see we're the hot spots are
-
Thanks for the info. I have read the trick is to get as high as you can and cover country with our glasses. My goal is to try and locate an area that is a little secluded from the roads and quad trail if at all possible. If that doesn't work than it will be to take the quad and cover ground with tires and glasses.
-
I know they shoot some monsters out of there, but my buddy and I goal is for a mature mule deer buck with our bows regardless of score. If we get one that stretches the tape as well it will just e a bonus!!
Thanks,
Andrew

I saw several bucks like this while hunting the area last season.
-
These too...
-
I would be thrilled to get one like that first one with my bow. Thanks for the pictures.
-
What unit did you focus your attention on?
-
From afar I focussed on 061 & 062 with a little on 067. Once I got down there I hunted 062 exclusively.
-
On my drive down to the Rubies last year I came down through this unit from Idaho, passing Wildhorse Res. I was going nuts looking at the mountains west of hwy 225 south of Owyhee, which I believe is 62 specifically. They looked absolutely perfect for spot and stalk mule deer. Tons of high, but not too steep terrain with nice ranches at the base. I have heard that ATV use is rampant, so escaping distractions might be a problem.
-
The atv use is my biggest concern as well... We will see how it ends up being.

+1
That country screams big mule deer when you see it.

No luck drawing on deer, elk or sheep for me
-
I was going to apply for this area this year but drew the multi season elk tag here. So I decided not to. Hopefully next year. Good luck to you!

Well I went scouting this weekend and I wish I could say I was going to be elk hunting and not deer hunting. I have seen 16 bulls 6 of which were already well on there way into the 300's. I have only seen four forked horn bucks though. There is still some snow up here so I am hoping that I am just ahead of the deer. I'm heading to a new area this afternoon so hopefully I will locate some bucks.
-
Make sure to take pictures for us. Please
-
I got a few pictures with my phone through the spotting scope. I will add them when I get home.
-
Sounds like fun!

my buddies (jamesK) Nevada buck! Still hunting for my buck. Had a buck similar to his at 50 yards this morning with a bush in the way. One wind swirl and he was gone. Thank you Hockman for all of your help. It has proved to be priceless.

 Best of luck notching your tag as well.
-
