G5 Striker 100 gr.

That law has always been the same.  There was no rule change regarding what broadheads we can use.  Also be careful there are two types of Exodus broadheads.  One is legal the other doesn't meet the rule requirements.

"It is unlawful to hunt big game animals with a broadhead blade unless the broadhead is unbarbed and completely closed at the back end of the blade or
blades by a smooth, unbroken surface starting at maximum blade width and forming a smooth line toward the feather end of the shaft and such line does not
angle toward the point."

I'd say both those heads are questionable.  I'm not sure either would be legal.

Why do you say that?
Title: Re: 2014 Broadhead rules ... So what broadheads to use???

The open gap between the bottom of the blade and the arrow shaft could be called a barb.
Title: Re: 2014 Broadhead rules ... So what broadheads to use???
Post by: winshooter88 on May 26, 2014, 03:23:19 PM
Also the back side of the blade appears to angle slightly toward the tip of the arrow instead of the feather end of the arrow, if that is the case then it would be illegal according to the rules.

They are not that old!   :chuckle:

I think Mark and I designed that one in '92 with first production delivery '94 if I'm not mistaken.  Still one heck of a broadhead!  Probably the best combination of flight, cut and terminal performance still today.  Since then the Squaw, Crazy Larry and myself have a long list of critters taken with it using bows from the Lorraine's 214fps to some I tested recently with hunting arrow speeds exceeding 320.  It's a good one and will return to the lineup once I can make them at a price point everyone can afford.

I'll be up looking at that property by your place this week.  Real Estate agent thinks I can get that piece and the one next to it for less than the asking price of just the one.  Just need to find a screw machine operator and/or programmer in Shelton.  That might be harder than finding the right property!

I can run some machines rad.  Program skills aren't up to par but I can certainly make enough hand written edits to make a part (Right or wrong).

I imagine the commute from your place to Shelton might be a little far :o

The helical interpolation is what gets most basic cnc guys.  It's also the reason our peep sights must be run of such expensive machines.

1983, 1993, whatever.  They are still the best broadheads I've ever used!  The only one of the 5 I tried that would fly on my arrows.  Thank you again.

Unless he really is a racist, plays tennis, is married with no kids or works with leather ;)  And if he replaces his hairy hole with a rip cord I think his friends and family might need to rethink their relationship  :chuckle:

I am still an old school NAP 100 grain Thunderhead believer.  If it aint broke don't fix it.  When I switched to 2" blazer vanes I was told a long broadhead wouldn't work with them and I would have to go to a G5 or a slick trick.  Something about a long broadhead and short vane I would have planing problems.   I stuck with the Thunderheads and they fly just fine for me.

Many good quality heads that all do the job equally.  It is like the Ford, Chevy, Dodge debate.  Boils down to brand loyalty with no real practical reason behind it.  Pick the proper grain and stick to it, you can't go wrong.

Not by definition of the rules.  However, I have come to understand that WDFW has mentioned to more than one hunter that the first one pictured would be acceptable. Though, I would want that in writing before I got stopped by a LEO!

This is the results after cutting through a rib.  Complete pass through with an exit wound that left a 12" diameter bloody, mushy mess.

Probably Slick Trick if it's 1" and four bladed.  Good head!

We were trying to see if they would sell after the founder passed away.  All my leads said the company was not for sale.  Then found out last week it was purchased by the parent company to Elite, Winners Choice, Scott...  Seems we are always a day late and a dollar short :bash:  Hopefully they will continue the good work Slick Trick was doing.

Sometimes, Yes!  Sometimes, No!  Depends on area, animal behavior, pressure and time of year.

I hate tree stands so 95% of the time I say, No.  I'm sure many others on here will say, Yes!

tree stands are effective but I cant sit that long. you cant go wrong with a slick trick or a shuttle t. no way I will ever shoot an elk with a two blade head again inless it has good size bleaders because there fat will plug the hole. two blades work well with recurves when you have low KE.

Have a friend who is trying to talk me into a tree stand.  Not sure I like the idea.
Like my slick tricks, when did ownership change hands?  Got great service from them a couple years ago.   On the other end of the arrow what color fletching?  White is the easiest to see, but so will the elk.  Red?

Not sure what date the ink was laid.  But it was recent.  Here is a link  http://www.outdoorhub.com/news/outdoor-group-acquires-slick-trick-broadheads/ (http://www.outdoorhub.com/news/outdoor-group-acquires-slick-trick-broadheads/)

Fire Orange and Red are both very good colors for seeing and remaining stealthy.  I agree with you on the white!  Pink and purple are also good choices.

Like the way the Striker 100 flies and kills.
Slick trick flies well, but I have not personally taken game with them.
Waiting to hear/see reviews on the new Savoras as well

If they're like the old Savoras, they'll be worth every penny.  I've got the sold Savoras and you could shave a fly with those blades.  HOLY CRAP THEY'RE SHARP!!!

So being a new bow hunter, a tree stand a good idea for elk/deer???

Its a mind f$%k for sure but it can pay off if you do it right and have the paitence for it. Its the only way I hunt elk in Sept.

For me, I agree. They fly good, kill good, and look good.

it can be effective But there's something about sneaking in on a group or calling them to you on the ground adds a little more excitement.

Their slot tolerances in the ferrule could be tighter, but if I were to shoot a commercially available head...G5 Stryker would probably be at the top of my list.   First class blade, first class product, first class company!  Would be a tough decision between it and WASP.  However, I would support the good guys every time.  So that puts G5 at the top!

I tried the G5 montec 100s last Season and put one diagonally through my bulls shoulder and out the hind qtr last season. I was pretty impressed,  but I'm sure some lucky placement and the Vector Turbo had a little to do with it aswell.

Just curious why the Wasp people are the bad guys?  I shoot the Boss and love it; can you fill me in on it?

Not so much that WASP guys are bad, though I have a few personal experiences, it's more a case of the Grace family (G5) just being outstanding people.

Hard to cover ground hunting elk in a tree stand.  Deer works well and how well depends on how good your set up location is.

treestands can be very productive for elk.  All about location.

It does suk!  However, after tooling up for a similar project I've found modern machining techniques are far more expensive than I had ever imagined.  The new guys increased quality, but at a cost to the consumer.  At least they are delivering...more than I can say for myself at this time >:(

I have had good luck (3 Bulls) with 100gr. Hellrazors

And yes tree stands are effective but it is all about location.
