A friend gave me 4 box's of 243 hand loads that were loaded in 1970. Would you shoot them??

The powders get hotter as the nitros separate in old ammo. Fire one and see how it is. I doubt you would hurt anything to fire one, just your bolt might be sticky.

Go for it.
I’ve been using a box of 12 gauge shells that I reloaded back in 1977. They’ve killed a few grouse this season without any problems.

I have been reloading for over 45 yrs and have a rule I won't break..that is I don't shoot someone else's reloads. No offense, but I don't know how careful he was when he put them together. Pull the bullets, reuse the brass and bullets..that way you know they are safe. The age of these rounds shoud not be a problem if they have not been wet. I have shot some of my 20 yr old pistol reloads with no problems.
my 2 cents

Well, that's a lie...I've shot hundreds of my father's loads...be he was my teacher when it came to reloading. I trust him.
I'm scared of all the reloads that get passed on at gun shows...scary stuff IMHO.
