Nice! Congrats! That is my only choice for ML bull. I haven't checked the results yet.

I have to say your avatar fits the picture of you scoring a lucky draw perfectly. Good work.

Now the real work begins

I was told this is a hard tag to fill, and way overrated. Let us know how it goes.

Good news is you get first crack at em, and there's usually a dandy in there somewhere. Bad news is, not a ton of elk, they can get to Oregon on ya pretty quick, and once their gone, they're pretty tough to find. Definitely not for the weak, and you're gonna need to make every opportunity count. Good luck.

Thanks for the tips Bob. Going to do some scouting as soon as work allows. I like tough hunts.should test my skills nicely.

I knew where it was generally, I was just being goofy...since there are always people after the draw asking for tips, where is the unit, honey holes, etc. :chuckle:

Looking at maps like gohunt and wilderness I can only see Cheif Joseph Wildlife area, it the unit generally public or private land?
-
The pink and yellow are public ground. The rest is private.

nice. I have a multi season tag for deer, so I will be doing a bit of both. Looking forward to a scouting trip soon.

They used to have a late season ML hunt which was good if the snow pushed the elk out of OR. You weren't allowed to drive in back in the day. If you camped by the gate to Rogersburg and hiked up the saddle to the south, there is a road that takes you up the draw and you end up by the corral by willow spr. Its a lot shorter way in.
-
Thanks zike, I will check it out.

I thought about another way in, although I never tired it.
You drive up into OR and you can drop down the ridge to the WA line. From what I heard it was an easy walk, but late season it was hard to make it up there. The other thing was people coming in from the bottom spooked the elk and they headed for timber in OR.
I remember something about the boy scouts resurveying the state line and it was moved further north so it maybe a longer walk. Good Luck

Might want to check out the stuff up the Grande Ronde River from Joseph Creek to Bogans. My brother was archery deer hunting in there and got some video of a couple herds within 1000 feet of the water, both with rutting herd bulls and satellites. It was hot though, which is probably why he didn't make it very far from the water and saw few deer. The dude that owns the private land in there will ticket you for sure, so make sure you know where you are. He has ranch hands that take trespassing seriously I've heard. PM me if you want more info.

Thanks for the tips guys.
