So excited drew entiat late season archery with my buddy! I ate this tag 6 years ago so i hope this time i can put my tag on one of those big mule deer out of the high country. Now the count down to November 21st begins!
-
:)
i WILL SEE YOU OVER THERE , GOT THE TAG TOO. :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:
-
Better hope it snows... I had it last year ate tag soup
-
I am jealous.

So did. Can't wait till I draw it again. If I ever do.
-
It'll be a great hunt, burn the boot leather and bring the chains I'll see you there :IBCOOL:
-
Jbar i finally drew aswell!
-
I had 2 buddies that drew it last year and they both took bucks. One 2 point and one big 3 point.
-
Can't wait for stories and pics.
-
If you don't have a good set of binoculars get some and use them as much as possible. Those bucks can be hard to spot and 95 percent of people will drive past some very nice bucks. We had no snow and lots of fog last year and it made it a tough hunt.
-
If it don't snows don't goes.
-
If it don't snows don't goes.
I think that this is a major misconception about this hunt. Had the tag in 08 and had zero snow where we hunted at and were in deer and big deer at that every single day. Bucks were rutting good and were out in force despite the lack of snow. Not to say that a good snow might have made it better but I don't see it as a necessity :twocents:

Yeah really. What do you think? :dunno:
-
Really I would love this tag snow or no snow. :)
-
How many points did you guys have that drew this tag?
-
I had 9 points should be well worth the wait.
-
Hopefully you tag holders will have some good luck, but I will guarantee you this, you will all comment on how the tribal "over-harvest" on mature bucks the last few years has really taken its toll up there. And if you don't comment, you're being stubborn. ;)
-
7pts for me!
-
i had only 4 pts :) :) :) This is the second time i have gotten this tag. I will agree snow or no snow i have had friends that have done great in both, it realy has more to do with the migration from the high country if snow is heavy up high and moves them down and the snow level is up high still the deer will move into the are and the rut will be in full! The snow down lower does help out but boy does it not make it fun to get around, makeing the roads fun to drive around.
-
I had 9
-
I drew this tag too! I can't wait to get up there and hit it hard! My cousins have been raving about it for years and one of them had the tag a year or two ago. I decided to put in for it this year and got it! I haven't hunted it much, mainly just riding along with others. Any wisdom would not go unheard :)
-
Practice with both eyes open. You don't want a forked horn stepping into the arrow when you were aiming at a bigger buck :bdid:
-
I drew it last year, with no snow. The best buck we saw was 160, but we saw a lot of bucks. I blew some stalks, missed a big 3x4 and finally shot one that was suicidal so I could get home and hut elk on the wet side.
-
Great buck.
-
Don't need snow to find bucks that time of year. Snow makes them easier to see and congregates them in more condensed areas, but they are there with or without snow. They come down to chase does and rut. Unless you are looking for a true bruiser...there is no reason to eat your tag on this hunt. Come the last day the first 3 point or bigger would fall victim to my love for venison burger. :chuckle:
Here are a few pics to get you guys primed.
-
I'm stoked for this hunt, the buck in my avatar was from the last time I had the tag in 2005.

Dreamin- You're going to have plenty of options with a doe tag in hand, enjoy the hunt and don't rush it. Mud is a great start but anywhere will hold plenty of does for you!
-
Drew it in 07 and shot my buck opening day by 10 with no snow. Biggest 4x5 of my life. Can be tough. Lots of country and can be hard to sneak. Have fun and enjoy hunt ;)
-
I will most likely be tagging along with JBar and filming his hunt and being the pack mule. I'm excited just to tag along.

So how will the fires affect the entiat late archery season?

None of the fires have effected the entiat winter range....yet. Could be an epic year.
-
Thanks. Good to know.

Yeah, I'm betting the Indians are salivating.

beautiful buck!

The fire of 94 created a lot of open country but a lot of trees were planted; now the deer have a little more cover; not quite so easy.
The Mills Canyon fire was south of the Entiat River and did not burn in the Entiat GMU 247. The Swakane GMU 250 deer and sheep might not be real happy when the arrive in the winter range to find that it burned.
The Duncan fire burning now will probably just burn from the Wilderness boundary down to the Shady Pass road in the Slide Ridge unit GMU 246.
No recent large scale fires in the Entiat late archery hunt unit.
Have fun and take a great buck.
-
I have a doe tag for late archery. Anyone willing to pm me if you have some canyons/ridges to check out? I have one day to fill me tag. Have a few spots circled as starting points.

-
I drew that tag a few years ago with 1 point. Steep area and be patient. For the doe tag just drive around for a morning if ya want or just pick a trail and sit.
-
Anybody getting excited for this hunt? I will be hunting but will be there if anybody needs help. Thanks and good luck to everybody during this hunt.
-
Almost all pack and ready to go . Leaving Thursday morning and doing a solo hunt.
See you guys all up there

Good luck to all that have this tag. Looking forward to following this thread and reading the stories. And of course the pictures. Aim small miss small!
-
Drew the tag last year, didn't have the best of weather but it was an incredible hunt. Saw tons of deer, blew multiple stalks and happily took this deer. Can't wait to get back!
-
NICE DEER! :) :) :) I have a question on the late hunt, like to know what you guys think on caring pistol during this hunt are there a lot of cougars in this area during late season? I have my permit to carry but like to hear what some have to say about it.

I carry my pistol everywhere!! There has been one cougar sighting up there by a rifle hunter that I know of. There have also been sightings of wolves up in that neck of the woods.

Always carry
-
Had a friend that seen two cats during general and I was walking in cat tracks as well. They follow deer, always carry.
