-
Again not my biggest but still a favorite
-
70" shed my best to date .
-
Pretty good set
-
My buddy with quite possibly the freshest shed ever. Watched the other bull tear it off his head.
-
.
-
Not my biggest. But I spotted it stuck in the mud like this from probably 800 yards away. One of my favorite finds. Then I found the same side from the same bull in the same drainage this year. He put on a ton of mass and length in one year, now if I could just draw a damn bull tag!
-
My best, officially scored 88 7/8.
-
Awesome sheds everyone! Not enough shed porn gets posted anymore
-
I got a few good ones, I just got to quit being so busy and post them up.
-
Found these last year on off time while working in nw Montana , best set to date.
-
Whoa now that's a nice whitey.
-
Some more
-
Schliesman, would love to see a better picture of that set. looks like the critters found it before you. >:(
-
These two are my favorite. The first is a few years old and it's hollow. Looks like a mouse or squirrel chewed all of the marrow out of it and made it his home. The front is broken/chewed off and so is the cheater. I rough scored it at 69''. And the second is just a HUGE deer spike. I dubbed him the "back scratcher buck". The spike is about 19'' tall. Never did see either of these bucks on the hoof.
-
Could be we're hunting same spot
-
Blackie

One of my favorites for character and size.
Last pic is a size 12 boot for size comparison.

cool three point.

Never found any, Feel like they don't exist here in western wa.
-
Found during general season. The exposed sides were sun bleached. I ended up staining them to look like their natural color.

That's what I thought...until yesterday. Found this set 40 yards apart on top of a hill in gmu 621.

I will have to take some pics and post some up. Found more this year while hunting than all ever before combined. Most I had found were old and only half was still left. This year found a nice long curvy elk spike with eyeguard, a small 4 pt elk shed both during early muzzy elk. Then my first matched set a few years old strong 3 point blacktail.
-
Most you guys are eastern right?
-
My best two sets.
-
Never found any, Feel like they don't exist here in western wa.
They are out there, just look hard it will pay off

:yeah:
Get an idea where the snow level is at when they start dropping. I don't find a lot of fresh ones, usually bleached out; but in spring when walking a certain elevation looking for bears will start finding them mostly all the same elevation. And if it was a late snow year, they seem to be up along the ridges.
-
Blacktail sheds in the lowlands are intimidating to me. I am becoming more comfortable, but have tons to learn. But I can say for me there is nothing better than picking up a good blacktail shed from off the wet duff. I love finding elk, and.muley, or oak country blackies as well. But for time expended for horns earned, the lowland blacktails are my most rewarding finds. a couple.things I have found useful....
A machete, those bucks burrow into some thick nasty stuff. It's also useful for flipping or cutting ferns.
Walk a lot of miles inside a mile. I think this is the hardest thing for me, if there's decent deer population and sign it's tempting to cover ground, but bucks don't move much. He is likely spending the bulk of his time in a VERY small area. And may be consistently utilizing just a few acres. Walk every trail you can.
The adage they shed where they shed is very true. But I'm developing a theory that blacktails may be much more predictable than there migratory cousins. I consistently find sheds in certain types of terrain and habitat. And have drawn blanks in many other areas. I think once you find a couple you will get an idea of what that habitat is like in your area.
Shed when it's wet. That's my favorite, horns will shine a bit and are a little.easier to spot.
-
Lowland BT from yesterday
-
Nice BT shed
-
My best two sets.
Where did you get that half replica skull. I like the looks of that over the full skull. Also, what method do you use to mount your sheds to it? Wondering if there was an easier way than how I did a similar mount.
-
When do the Blackies and elk really start dropping antlers on the west side??? I have done a lot of searching the last 2 years in gmu 654 and other neighboring units in February and March but have never had luck. Excited to get back out there this year though!
-
April-May seems to be best for elk but have seen them start dropping as early as the end of feb and first part or march. As far as the BT go some start in mid nov but jan-feb seem to be the best time
-
My biggest to date. 167" I'm 6'4" to give you an idea on size.
-
Not biggest but some of my favorite ATL
-
Pic doesn't do it justice.
