Title: Pimping out my hunting areas
Post by: Opportunist on June 22, 2014, 05:17:19 AM: Let me start by saying this is not a satirical or smartase post. My 79 year old dad who is a diehard westside rifle hunter traded in his westside tag for an eastside tag after the Weyco announcement of fee hunting, he worked for Weyco for 42 years and it just really ticked him off and wasn't about to pay for access. I applied him for eastside units I have hunted and scouted with the exception of Rimrock, which by murphys law he drew the October 20th tag.

Let me cut to the chase, I am willing to trade rock solid info on units we have killed multiple bulls in over the years and in recent years. I've had Peaches twice and have spent a ton of time in the unit killing two 6 points archery with my buddy killing a nice 5x6 on the second trip with me. I have hunted alot in eastern Oregon, I've successfully hunted murderers creeks rifle elk on my tag and others I have taken on the hunt and have been 100% success with those I directly hunted with and our party has averaged 60% success. I was the lead on these hunts and did all the scouting so I have the right to share the info on the units. I have maps that I would be willing to share showing where we have killed at least 20 bulls over the recent years.

My dad can get around but real slow and we have two riding horses and one pack horse with packin gear. I am really looking for a spot to take my dad where he can sit and watch a crossing whether i'ts a saddle or a natural choke point. We have 3 scouting trips planned but I know as well as others learning crossings and chokepoints can take years to learn and well frankly my dad is 79. I am looking for specific spots that will not be shared with anyone else.

This is out of the norm for me, but I want my dad to have a successful hunt, so am willing to pimp my info out. Pm if willing to trade info. Thank you.

Are you looking for a masher or a freezer bull....I plan on spending most of the seaon up there, even if I tag out early, so I would be up for intel gathering, spotting, packing, whatever...

I know its not what you asked for but its the best I can do right now. Maybe after some scouting trips and the fire season I can better direct you, still alot of factors in play right now.

I'm just like my dad, a terrible trophy hunter, to kill the biggest bull on the mountain it had better be the first bull my dad has a chance at because if I know him there will be lead flying. My dad is heading over this morning to take a look around and check out the road systems to get feel for the country. We are looking to hunt as high as weather and elk allow, but not willing to drive past elk to get to the elk country. I love thick nasty sleeper spots next to mainlines, some of the best elk we've killed have been in these areas that everyone else drives by.

fishngamereaper; thanks for the offer on the info, we are making our annual family camping trip to bumping lake in a couple of weeks and planning on backtracking over to the unit to look around. I'll let you know what we run into and we can swap notes, I believe in tit for tat, thats what my post is all about.
