So i'm pretty lucky here on the westside over here and have some really good waterfowl and goose hunting areas my family owns. I was wondering if it's illegal to just take some guys hunting and charge them. I have days where i could use a few more guys to get some more birds and if i could get some money to buy more decoys or what not i think it would be pretty good deal for both parties. So is this illegal or would i have to purchase some guide business stuff?

Take em hunting for free. Charge them for access, its the new world order.

You may want to check in with Bearpaw about becoming a sponsor first.

Washington does not have hunting guide licensing, however, if you are running a business you should have a business license and to protect all parties you should have liability insurance. Additionally, it's a federal violation to operate on federal lands and a state violation to operate on WDFW lands without a special-use permit.
FYI - H-W does not have any sponsors who are active waterfowl guides, I would like to see a couple good waterfowl guides advertise on the forum to accommodate hunters looking for a waterfowl guide. It's only $50 yearly to be a sponsor.

I would be interested as well, never have been bird hunting but would love to find a way to learn the sport.

You can sell leases on your own property without a business license unless the income exceeds $12K/yr.

I would like some new opportunities to smack some quackers.

If your just looking for some decoy money I would just have the hunter show up with some new decoys of your choice as a gift to you for some hunting access.

:yeah:
WA's hunting guide industry is realistically the last unregulated fishing/hunting industry left in the state, at least unregulated by WDFW. WA is definitely on the short list, especially in the west that doesn't regulate hunting guides. Although I do think there will be changes in the next decade or so, the legislature has been starting to really set some requirements for fishing guides and I can see them moving to the hunting side soon :twocents:

The industry is asking for regulation, there have been complaints made to the AG's office due to unscrupulous operators recently, and its been brought up during the Parks & Recreation Task Force meetings.

Dusty, I might know a couple youth hunters that would be interested in waterfowl. Both kids have mentioned it but I have never done it so have no idea what to tell them other than "we will see". How is that pup of yours filling out? I was thinking about you and him the other day, wondering if you were back from Alaska yet. He should be a big beautiful dog by now. Take care.

I don't want to sound mean but I have a family member with property and about 3 on the list. Sometimes hunters pull up and start asking me and I tell them who the owner is but chances are nil since I'm on the list but they insist to blow by me like a dirty shirt and use the skit only to end up slamming their truck doors on the way out.

Check the federal laws on charging for hunting. You would have to word it as a day lease possibly, but not 100%. If you get caught guiding without a license you would be in violation of the Lacey Act. Do your homework by looking at the Federal and State waterfowl regs.

The liability with out a license is what scares me. If a guy gets hurt out there he will own you. I have to carry a million dollar policy to run clients. Goes up if they ride in your truck, quad, boat.

ya me too for sure I will grease the palms for ducks geese what you got...looks like a long list already so you are set for the season. but did you expect anything different...better yet call it a donation for the sustainability of waterfowl habitation...not pay to hunt. good luck and i'll be looking for your lottery call.

That's a cheap easy process unless he has his USCG OUPV.

I usually help with a veterans hunt on the DHC board. It would be cool to donate the land for a 1-2 day veterans hunt and I could connect the discussions if this is something you'd like to participate in.
Feel free to PM me if you'd like to discuss this more.

what Tealer said... if you run them in a boat and they give you anything for services, you have to have a USCG oupv or tonnage license, pee test card, TWIC card, etc. PITA to maintain.

I am lost here ..If you pay someone to go hunting you are being guided :dunno: Is not that illegal without a license ?
-
Not in WA. There's no such thing as a guiding license here. It's a big issue, especially among quality guiding services who care about the reputation of their businesses.
