I am wanting to hunt Mountain View for the muzzleloader season this October for elk. I know it's tough country, but any ideas or suggestions on where to start lookn?
-
There's a thread on the elk hunting forum you might want to check out.
-
That country is literally straight up and down. Lots of hoofing it as roads are few and far between
-
Did you draw a tag in there? Or will you be chasing spikes? I'm not sure very many guys go in there just for spikes :dunno: Beautiful country for sure though! Best of luck to you.
-
Its all steep and deep. The elk stay way down in the bottom. Make sure your in really good shape and have a good time.
-
No tag, part of the reason I want to go there becouse not to many guys think it's worth it. I enjoy being away from people and roads. It is a lot of work, planning another trip there this sat. Also hopen to see a bear or two while I'm hunting there in Oct.

It should be an awesome hunt. Bulls will be bugling, you will have a blast!

Mathews13 where are you from? I know somebody with about 100 acres on grouse flats that has a cabin. Don't know if I can get you in the cabin but I do know some places. PM me!

Man I wish! This is my last scouting trip until the muzzle season in October. Can't wait!
-
Saw a lot this weekend, a few nice bucks, a lot of elk ,and a few dang cows.
-
Looks like a productive trip in there. Was it hot?
-
Is that the west mountain road?
-
It felt great, up top 64degrees & 85 down in the bottom. Some big country.
-
Is that the west mountain road?
Yes, saw a lot of deer there
-
I love that area. It's just plain awesome. Can't wait for deer muzzy season over there! Sept 27 won't come soon enough.

Good thing you got your elk hunt in. The controlled burn they did the week of modern firearms deer slighly exceeded it's projected 5,000 acres and chased everything out of there and down into the private lands.
