So I know there are chains, greasy spoons, mom and pops, and fast food places that make burgers. But who makes a burger that makes you drive out of your way to get it. ON another note, who makes the best homemade onion rings as well?
-
:yike:McDonalds? :dunno:
-
Scott's Dairy Freeze in North Bend used to have some darn good burgers back in the day. I haven't been there for a while but a burger then a soft serve cone on a hot day is a good memory growing up in the valley.
-
Noah's Ark in Bremerton. If I remember right, they make all their own sauces. Shakes are good, Onion Rings are great, Burgers are amazing!

Frisco Freeze in Tacoma
-
Jaks, several locations, but Issaquah is my go to location. One of the best burgers I've ever had. Voted in the top 10 in the country in Men's Fitness Magazine a few years back. Took 3rd or 4th if I recall.
-
Lunchbox Laboratory!

-
Norma's (http://www.allmenus.com/wa/olympia/45440-normas-burger-hut/menu/) in Olympia has some really good burgers. They also have good milkshakes.........a good milkshake is a must for a burger joint. :twocents:
My favorite is the John Wayne burger:
THE DUKE JOHN WAYNE BURGER $11.99
Double meat, double cheese, dailys bacon, ham slice, pineapple, jalapenos, lettuce, toma-toes, pickles ,normas secret sauce and mustard on a fresh onion bun
-
Big Lake Bar & Grill  the drinks are even better :llam:

:yeah:
I also like me a good Red Mill burger but a few others on this list would bump Red Mill down the list.
-
Sandy's in little ole Toledo. I'll occasionally drive down just for the Ultimate Burger. It's gotta be 5,000 calories of awesomeness.
-
I got to put up Fat Smitty's in Discovery Bay. When I've been there I've had the Smitty Special.

Pioneer Bar & Grill in Mossyrock for a "Dam" burger
-
Bennets fish shack, they have several locations but the one in Westport is especially awesome. Amazing applewood bacon cheeseburgers
-
tough one to choose.... eagle creek saloon on 101 by liliwap (hood canal) had a pretty good burger--2 lb patty with fried eggs on it and a lot of bacon and cheese. They were supposed to get a 5 lb one going.
Then there was a place by brinnon (also hood canal) on 101, some clam shack. They had a burger that had clams and oysters on it.
-
DAG"S! (Ooops--I guess they got caught making their burgers out of horsemeat, and had to close.) :chuckle:

Fat Smitty's
-
Fat Smitty's for me too!
I love Big Macs from Mc Donalds. Well the Fat Smitty is a fresh, Giant, wonderful version of the Big Mac. There sauce is nearly identical!
I ask for extra sauce on mine always. Really worth the drive!
-

DING DING DING!!!!! We have a winner! Love me some Jaks. No longer work in West Seattle but that was my go too place. Nothing wrong with Red Mill but Blue Moon Burger in Freemont I believe is superior. Jaks honestly takes the cake though.
-
Uneeda Burger (in fremont) Grub elk burger, hand spun shakes, homemade fries.
8oz Burger
Red Mill
Daniels(happy hour) makes a grub burger

:yeah: I live close to uneeda burger. They are the best burger I have had.

Baked Alaska in Astoria has a burger made with Kobe beef, white cheddar ,bacon jalapeño jam, candied pork belly. Its simply called " the burger" i know its not even in washington but it is on the wetside...... So it still counts right?
-
The Patty Melt at XXX in Issaquah washed down with a giant root beer is hard to beat. Usually a few classic cars to check out too....
-
Bubbas roadhouse BBQ in sultan awesome foodi had the wtf burger my buddy had a normal burger
-
Back when the Gas Lamp in Issaquah was a dive tavern they had the greatest bacon cheese burger on the planet. Then they became a yuppy family bar & grill and ruined the whole dang thing. So my vote goes with the growing list of Fat Smitty's voters. Only down side to Smitty's that I remember is the need for an extra large bib!
I'm a sucker for the Royal Red Robin burger too. It's no Happy Clown burger after a week of hunting  But, egg yoke on bacon makes the burger IMO!
-
I haven't been to Fat Smitty's since they were shut down for health violations.
-
Ok, for a quick burger - dicks deluxe
-
I haven't been to Fat Smitty's since they were shut down for health violations.
Not sure what the violation was. Don't think they are shut down. Just peeked at yelp and they have reviews as recent as July 1, 2014.

Chuck Wagon in Mt Vernon their Big Sue.
Or the Net on west side Mt. Vernon.
Dairy Delight south Mt Vernon has the best fries.
-
Conway Tavern, definately worth pitstopping off the freeway for in my opinion.
-
The earthquake burger at the Puyallup Fair
-
Dad's Diner in Anacortes, either the sit down one or the parking lot rolling one.
-
Another vote for Fat Smitty's. Nothing like chasing deer all morning and coming down for a Fat Smitty burger
-
Conway Tavern, definately worth pitstopping off the freeway for in my opinion.
forgot about Conway... Yummm!

Please tell me someone has eaten at the junction café? On The 101 and 104 Junction in Naselle? Its changed owners now and doesn't have the same food. But when it was the junction café it was run by a single Asian lady. She would cook up burgers that were the size of a large plate. 3 Eggs, Bacon, Ham and all the fixins. The buns had to be baked by her. They were also the best tasting burger ever. She would also make HUGE servings of everything else. The breakfasts she made were insane.
-
Timber burger at the Timber Tavern in Orting makes a great flat top burger till 2am....can't beat it!
-
Westside of what? Try www.effiesplace.net/menus_sandwiches_burgers. (http://www.effiesplace.net/menus_sandwiches_burgers.) Lewiston Westside of Idaho
-
The Triple Boss at Gene's stop n go in Monte, right across the street from the Dennis Co. 3 patties with cheese and thick ham slices in between each patty. It's the best after-fishing burger ever! Oh and don't order fries, because you'll be too full, and it's only like $6.00.
-
Van's on Yelm Highway in Olympia, hands down!
-
Scale shack burger in Elbe,
I cannot believe someone said McDonalds I'd rather starve then eat a big mac.
Carl
-
...................no hamburger anyplace, isn't good, unless the buns are toasted, period. :chuckle:
-
+1 on the Van's burger on Yelm Hwy near the Oly train station. Good call Polar bear. Think I might drive out there right now.

Just had The Guacamole Bacon Thickburger® at Carl's Jr. For a national chain that's a pretty dang good burger right there! Though my normal at Carl's is the Super Star. Good and messy with a hint of artery hardening ringing in your ears after your done

I had forgotten about Gene's. Haven't been there in about 20 years. At that time we used to get a burger called Gene's special. It came on an oversized bun and had eveything you mentioned includingsome fried eggs. Is it still on the menu? We used to get it on our way out for sturgeon fishing. It was a fine burger!
-
Clark's Restaurant in Artic, Hiway 101. Great grilled burgers, hand cut fries and ice cream heavy shakes.
-
Another vote for Fat Smitty's! However, if you're in Allyn, Big Bubbas is well worth the stop. Made to order burgers, and a milkshake that's legit.
www.bigbubbasburgers.com (http://www.bigbubbasburgers.com)
-
Burger Express.....Federal way
-
I would say Scale Burgers in Elbe or Pick Quick in Fife.
-
Clarks just outside of Arctic has great burgers and the shakes are the best. Dock of the bay in Bay Center has a beast called the willapa wopper. This is a huge burger. Two patties, ham, bacon, fried egg and great fries. I am a big eater and it's dinner and lunch the next day.
-
"Fast food-wise" my vote is Frugals.
-
Clark's in Artic are pretty darned good, but hands down I'd take a bacon cheeseburger with the works on it from the Humdinger in Hoquiam over any other burger I've tried.
-
Hop Jack's Lacey, WA

I'm not sure. I never even look at the menu because I always get the triple boss, but if they still have that Gene's special, I may just have a new favorite!

If your in kingston, stop by the Grub Hut. Awesome burgers and the owner always works the counter.

Sweet tarter, sweet pickles, bread & butter... :puke:
When I was growing up in Tumwater there was a burger joint in West Olympia called Lou's. Not sure if it is around anymore. They had the best dill pickle tarter/burger sauce on the planet! They called it burger goop. Used to order a double cheese burger with Extra Goop. Was my favorite place to go as a very young boy.

Rotten Ralph's in Arlington, when it still existed years back, they had THE best tater sauce ever, and yes it had plenty of onions in it. They also would use real fruit in their milkshakes. I loooved the banana milkshake. It's hard to find a joint that will do that anymore, they just use that espresso/Italian soda flavorings out of the bottle, Yuck!
-
French Fries is another topic too............ :chuckle: Crispy and soft on the inside.

No plank cut fries for me. Not a fan of those! But as would be normal they are the wife's favorite ;)

How did Eagan's Big Toms compare to Lou's? :dunno:
There is a new place in W Oly called 5 guys burgers........they are pretty good. I like Herfy's has been in W Oly for a few years now.....I remember going to Herfy's in Federal Way as a kid, although my memory makes it better than what I've found the new one to be.
-
Is 5 Guys Burgers a mini chain ? I think there is one in Spokane too.
-
Have to go with Frisco freeze in Tacoma, haven't been in years and haven't tried very many you guys are suggesting. I do have to say this, just got back from California and tried "in and out burger". Not impressed, and the fries were terrible.
-

Yeah, I believe they are a chain. They are popping up in several areas I guess. I've only been there once.........they were good, I wouldn't say great. They sure were crowded though, but maybe because they had just recently opened? People seemed to really be liking them.

Well, Lou's did not have the two flavor swirly ice cream cones. So that made it hard to beat Big Tom's Remember I was in grade school and lived in the booneys to cool swirly ice cream rated a restaurant pretty high in my book. :chuckle: I remember Big Tom's having good buns and patties, but I can not remember anything about the sauce. So I guess it wasn't much of anything or I'd probably remember. Although Big Tom's was the closest place to our house so if we got burgers away from home that was what it usually was. Lou's was a special treat!
I can not remember which of the two places had the ripple cut french fries. I was thinking it was Big Tom's :dunno: I like those!
Best French fries in my opinion were Artic Circle. But that may have been because their fry sauce was so dang good!
BTW - 5 Guys is a national chain. Burgers suck, but the fries are reasonable. Carl's Jr. is 10 times the burger without all the yuppy attitude!

I used to love arctic circle as a kid. There was that one in Lacey next to McDonald's and McDonald's was always crowded but almost no one would be at Arctic Circle. Yeah their fry sauce was real good. I always got raspberry milkshakes.

When my hunting partner would lose a bet he had to buy us lunch. So on those days I would back up through the drive up window at our Artic Circle so he could pay on his side. One day the manager tells us we can not be served, "New company policy states you have to pay for your meal from the drivers side window." :chuckle: Company must have had all kinds of problems with that, I guess :bash:

As mentioned before, Clark's in Arctic is awesome! We stop in whenever we are in the area.

Is that the same place with the fish and chips? I have always wanted to stop in there on my way back from Buoy 10.

Not exactly a burger joint, but try Ruth’s Chris Steaks at Happy Hour. Great cheap burger!
-
Not exactly a burger joint, but try Ruth’s Chris Steaks at Happy Hour. Great cheap burger!
Nothing wrong with some of the higher end places. One of the best burgers I've ever eaten was a chopped burger. The meat was all hand chopped meaning that it never saw a grinder. They hand these herbs worked into the meat. You knew right away this was not your normal run of the mill burger. Of course the price reflected that as well.

On the hood canal, HY 106, Robin hood, use the Pub entrence. Pub food is cooked in same kitchen as the 4 star restaurant. Worth stopping just for the beer selection but burgers are excellent they also have elk sheperds pie.
-
Mt High in Easton. Worth the stop on the way to elk camp.
Technically east but we've been known to take a jaunt for a burger and a shake.
I will second that one, Mountain High Hamburgers, and add in Rossow's U-Tote-Em in Ellensburg even though it isn't westside. Central WA is close enough.
5 Guys makes a pretty good burger but how on God's green earth you can call yourself a burger joint and not offer onion rings and milkshakes is beyond me. I just don't get it. It is unfathomable. I have a strong opinion on that.

Just out of curiosity how long do you guy's usually have to wait for service at mountain high We have tried three times but the wait got to be so long we just give up and go over to parkside cafe and have food before the line at moutian high has moved. I would really like to try their food as i have heard nothing but good about the place.
-
Well, Fat Smitty's is going to be VERY POPULAR and busy. Legal Marijuana store just opened up in Discovery bay in the little log cabin that used to be a coffee joint - within sight of Fat Smitty's.
Munchies much?
:chuckle:
-
Just woke up from a nap and came down to vans. This better be worth the wait!

Mountain High wasn't too busy the times I've been there. I think it is worth the wait, though.

I've always liked their Tom and Jerry shakes.
I hope there are not cat and mouse parts in that shake. :yike:
-
On a tip from a few folks I went to Battleground for lunch today. Went to the Old Town Burgers & Breakfast. Very good burger and fries were fabulous! I'd say the burger is on par with Red Robin (maybe even a little better) without having to deal with the yuppie ascracks and drunks. Next time I'm planning on desert...pistachio Baklava
Both times I have gone to a 5Guys I've left wishing there was a McDonalds close by so I could get the taste of 5 guys boogers out of my mouth. Once in Minneapolis and once in Vancouver, WA both with the same result. As those that meet me know, I rarely pass up a meal. But I am not willing to ever try them again.
-
Yeah I had oly five guys burgers the other day... I won't be fooled twice. Made me sick. I went to vans yesterday though! New favorite spot! Best shake and burger I've had in a long time.
-
Bloomers Landing in port hadlock. The double western is IT, man. That or another vote for Fat Smittys.

I think I gotta give it to Red Mill Burgers, up oh Phinney Ridge in Seattle.

Actually I messed up :dunno: I make the Best Burgers :chuckle: :chuckle: :dunno:

New burger king in Tumwater. They make the best burger and giant rings in the area bar none. Red Wagon by the airport. My only go to place from now on in Thurston Co.

Wednesdays at the St Hellens Tap House in Toledo (Formerly Harrys Place) they have a $5.00 Burger and fry special. Burger patties are made fresh by hand and the fries are hand cut. They also have a great beer selection to wash them down with.

OK. I'm going to do it. I know chain restaurants are frowned upon, but I really do think five guys burgers and fries serve up pretty darned good burgers. The double bacon cheese burgers with the works are enough to give me the feeling of being a glutton. Fresh cut French fries piled high even on a small order.
I used to know a couple of private places that had incredible burgers, but they have shut down over the years.

I tried this place for the first time last week. That St. Helens burger is great!
Sandys in Toledo also has awesome burger

Al's Hum-Dinger in Hoquiam is awesome!

Clark's Restaurant in Artic, Hiway 101. Great grilled burgers, hand cut fries and ice cream heavy shakes.
I know this is a burger discussion, but when I saw Clark's mentioned, made me think of the best Biscuits and Gravy I've ever had. I swear they must use venison sausage. Great meal after a hard morning elk hunting.

Man, me and my kid will both tell you that after being in the Mts for a week elk hunting, we stopped at Huff & Puff near Randle and got some big burger there and it was awesome! Fat Smitty's is another good one...

I like Kidd valley. I'm not very interested in their fries, but their burgers are good. The onion rings are decent, but nothing to write home about.
I'll tell you who I think is way over-rated. Red Robin. Are those frozen patties they're cooking? Basically, they are a mediocre, fast-food joint with fancy packaging. If you want a beer and the feeling of obligation to tip with your fast food then I suppose it's the place to go. :twocents:
