So last year I got some new danner pronghorns and they worked awesome last season....comfy, light and kept my feet dry....well I haven't wore them till about 3 weeks ago since december when i started scouting and my feet got soaked....do I need to be treating these boots to keep them from leaking? If so what do you guys use to treat them?
-
Was it really wet where you were walking or was it just possibly sweat from your feet. I have pronghorns. Not my favorite boot by danner but I have had them for about 5 years and they still don't leak. If they really were leaking then I would send them back to danner they should not leak, but if your feet sweat alot then your gonna end up with wet socks. Gortex can only get rid of so much moisture in your boots.

They were soaked....my feet stayed dry all season last year
-
I had two set both sets leaked with in weeks.
-
I emailed danner so we will see what they say
-
Sorry to hear. The pronghorn is the reason I will never buy danner again. China made poor quality.
-
What do you suggest for boots then?
-
I have a pair or pronghorns myself and absolutely love them for hunting during the early archery season just because of how light and comfortable they are. I'm convinced that they have leaked since day one. I oil them
Regularly and just use them during August and September and summer scouting

I have been doing some reading about the pronghorns and the high ground by Danner and it seems that all the china made models have a lot of issues.
-
I have 2 pair and love how comfortable they are, however, they both leak after their first years in the field. The soles and stiching has held up for years so I keep using them. I plan on getting wet so I rotate between them and use a gortex sock. That has been working for me. I heard they started making them in portland again, is this true???
-
The pair I looked at Yesterday said made in China on the label and the High Ground label says made in Vietnam.

Based on the reviews and reports I've read on here, I'd suggest a lot of stuff besides Danners. Repeat over and over reports of leaky Danners.
-
I agree the boots made overseas for Danner are lacking in quality. My current pair are "made in China" and they were fine for a year but they leak now. My original pair of Danner Pronghorns were made in the USA and they were great boots for many years. Never had any leaks or issues until I blew out a sole while chukar hunting but that was in my 7th year of owning them. I wish they were still made in USA, I would buy another pair.
-
I have been looking at the Cabelas brand boots as they have a lifetime warranty on them.
-
Bought the High Ground last year, good boot. No leakage. I think alot of the leaking claims are actually sweaty feet from too heavy socks, over insulation in the boots and generally being over dressed. As for treating my boots I clean them thoroughly then spray down with silicon waterproofing. I like the look of Danners new Gila.

No, my boots leak. When I walk in wet grass/vegetation I feel the moisture creep in. If I step through a creek, "fa getta bout it!"

Go here: Lathropandsons.com.

Danner emailed me back and told me to send my boots in and they will evaluate them by wear and go from there...they haven't been used a whole lot...one season so hopefully they will fix or send a new pair
-
How long have you had them? I would hope they would replace them especially if you have had them less than a year

Kenetreks
Lowas
Hanwags
If you can't afford one of these, you might want to look at Under Armour. I think the speed freeks are comparable in price, comfortableness and weight to the pronghorns, but they are far better quality.
-
The Pronghorns are really comfortable boots for me. I have two pair. The first pair are about Dix years old and while they are wearing out are dry and great for hunting. My wife got me a newer pair two years ago and these have been problems from day one with leaking and just something "off" with the fit.
It's really too bad because I liked my first pair. I was thinking of trying the Cabelas Meindl boots next. Do they compare to Kennetreks?

I loved my pronghorn the 1st season I got them, tho they leaked after about a month. I am upset with how long they lasted, only 2 seasons! Not going to buy Danner again after my last ones only lasted 2 years as well. The pics make the leather look very dry but I keep them well oiled so that's not why they failed.(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.tapatalk.com%2Fd%2F14%2F07%2F13%2Ferame6aj.jpg&hash=94e4d1bb074e19e5f2e82382c47caad21c968c37)(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.tapatalk.com%2Fd%2F14%2F07%2F13%2Fmerebagu.jpg&hash=3133fcff32d1e8ca05d93bcf9f3fd935ee295e98)(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.tapatalk.com%2Fd%2F14%2F07%2F13%2Fa2ujejas.jpg&hash=45092a489e27dd22802ca0fbf48063688de15cef)(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.tapatalk.com%2Fd%2F14%2F07%2F13%2Fu8amy9u5.jpg&hash=8805629c2c8d349a9d868fab4a1065811f83ee79)(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.tapatalk.com%2Fd%2F14%2F07%2F13%2Fuma9ezed.jpg&hash=2d65680d71d4a500254274f5d7ddc25780365a52)

What do you suggest for boots then?
I have Danner Acadias which are made in the USA and about $100 more than Pronghorns. I have also used pronghorns. Comfy, but they don't last. Acadias are heavy and less comfortable, but very stable and you can pack out very heavy loads on uneven terrain with stability and confidence. They are also very waterproof after a couple years of use.

I'm going to send them back and see what they say....here's the email they sent

Hi Tom,
I’m sorry to hear your boots have failed to give you the performance expected from Danner products. We hold ourselves to the highest quality standards because we want to ensure that you are happy with our boots.
You can be assured that Danner stands behind our products with a one year limited warranty for recreational styles and six months for all occupational and work styles or boots used as such. Once the warranty time has expired we can still evaluate the boots based on the overall wear and condition.
Please send in your boots for evaluation. Upon our review, if it is determined your boots have an irregularity, Danner will, at its option repair, replace, or pro-rate based on the wear and tear evident. Include your name, address, telephone number, and briefly state the problem with your boots.

Depending how this next pair works out I may try kenetreks....I don't mind spending a extra money on something if its worth it...you get what you pay for and I thought I payed for a good boot
