Last night I was riding into an area to scout a bit and started seeing tufts of bear hair along the logging road about every 20 yards. smelled pretty musty. Definitely not a k9. Looked around for some scat or peels and didnt see anything. Anyone every run across bear hair like that? I'm thinking maybe he was getting rid of the last of his winter coat?

Love is in the air. Remember the Beatles' song "Why don't we do it in the road"?

I have come across patches of bear hair twice in the mountains. Each time I found a dead bear.
The hair struck me as if there was a terrible fight that had occurred. One was a smaller bear that I am showing a picture of and the other was a very large bear. I always wondered what killed them. The smaller one could have been a variety of animals I guess, but the large bear I assume took another large bear to kill it. (There was hair all around in clumps)

I've seen hair in the gravel....specifically on an older road that was well traveled based on the scat. I assumed they had a spot that they liked to roll and rub to scratch. I've got bears on cam on their back rubbing just like a dog would.
Here is a vid from a few years ago....this was the "blacktail bait" thead. I put out all kinds of stuff to see what deer like and didn't....pretty much a bust because the bears came in and would eat everything. This pig sat around for a day and a half. He ate 40 lbs of apples, about 15 lbs of cob, and some Buckjam stuff that was poured over it. Needless to say he was a content bear. I think later in the fall of that year he was the one that came in behind me while I was taking a leak. I had not put out food for the deer for about 40 days and was bowhunting. He came to 50 yards and then bugged out. He would ofent lay on his side/back and scratch where it needed scratchind would leave quite a bit of hair rubbed into the gravel/dirt/grass.

Thats crazy right there! That guy had to be killed by another bear? I would think a cat would bury it?

That could be. I have another picture of a different but very large bear that was killed by what I would guess was a another large bear. The amount of hair around was huge, that is what first caught my eye. I won't post that picture because I am holding a pistol in the picture and I am sure that someone would make out like I did something wrong. When I first noticed the bear when I was looking at the scattered hair, it was about 5' from me just over a steep bank and scared the crap out of me.
