Title: Skagit County Nooksack bulls
Post by: Bearhunter on September 05, 2007, 12:20:47 PM
I guess the lady with the raffle elk tag whacked the 7x6 at the challenger road field the other day, I would of held off and went after one of the big boys up on the hill.  I have been videoing them now for about 2 weeks and have some footage of some real bruisers up there.  4 guys I know drew the Nooksack tags so Ive been looking for a few of them.  They all should get nice bulls.

which tags do your friends have? I wanted this tag soooo bad. I hope you can post pictures once your friends fill tags.

I was wondering why the herd in the upper field dissappeared. There was a big bull in that group last Wednesday. She probably harvested it.

The 6x6 was a lot bigger bull than the 7x6 she must not of had much time to hunt.  Once I fiqure out how to load some video on here I will.  Does anyone know how?  I have some footage of a dandy 7x7 and a real heavy 7x6 both up on the hill that we called in using cow calls.  2 friends drew the archery tags they are brothers.  One buddy drew the Muzzleloader tag and another guy I work with drew the rifle tag.  One of the archery guys went hunting with my buddy on Saturday and pasted on 4 bulls one was a real heavy 5x5.  Hopefully I can get out with him this weekend.  Keep ya posted.

I took these pictures on Friday, August 31 at the Challenger road field. This bull is a 6x7, is it the bull the raffle tag holder shot?

That looks like the one I seen last Wed too. With the exception of a poacher or indian, those animals have never been shot at before.

That bull there is bigger than the 7x6 that was hanging up there first, she may have shot that one.  I am not sure.  My friend that drew the archery tag with his brother, his brother shot his bull yesterday is was a 8x9 just a hog I was told.  I will post some pictures of it this weekend If I take some.

The indians also killed two bull up by the Howard creek bridge yesterday, a 7 point and a 6.  Last week they killed a 7 point also up russells ranch I hope it wasnt the big 7x7 I have video of.

:chuckle: all of the good bulls will be gone after this year and back to rag bull land.............

I was surprised by the number of permits (especially to the indians) given out. Given that these animals are almost pets, the herd bulls are going to be decimated.

I went out twice this weekend with Eldon, the last guy left with an archery tag in his pocket.  Saturday we called a 7x6 in to 40 yards, and watched him tear up alders for about 10minutes, ripping bugles the whole time, got it all on video, we were there at 40 yards for so long that he finally winded us and came closer but was to thick thin turned around and walked up into the meadow we went up after him got to 80 yards broadside and just stood there looking at us.  Got some great footage of him, just couldnt close the deal.  Sunday morning we chased a bull all over, he was screaming the whole time we were cow calling, but he just keep moving away I believe he had cows and didnt want us to take them from him.  Some day I will load some clips up on here, it will be after elk season closes though.  I got pictures of the 8x9 I will post today though.  Boy was it ever fun up there I would give anything to have that tag in my pocket.  We shot 4 grouse Sunday up there and seen a bunch of deer.

Oh man, I heard the lady hit it in the neck and itdidn't kill it. Kept getting up flinging blood and falling down for 40 minutes. Apparently she went back to the house to wait for it to die. Game Warden was finnally forced to pop it with his service piece.   I heard this second hand i hope it wasn't as bad as it sounds but there were people there 'looking' at the elk when she shot him.  If the part about them going back to the house is true (and I find that really hard to believe) she deserves a big fat fine. And even if they stayed she should go through the hunter ed course again.  Actually, she doesn't need to be out there in the first place. AAArrrrrrggggghhhhh

Tell me it ain't so............

i guess you had to be there at the time...but there was major drama on MM over the utah and nevada auction tag holders from last year and the big $$$ and the early season and the location the bull was killed and the dadadadadadada....it was a mess. but the pic of the 2 guides wearing the baby blue t-shirts was a big hit....

Lots of drama for sure. Even claims of ownership on the bull. The blue t-shirts are kind of funny looking.  :chuckle:

Ya, I heard the same thing, the elk was running around wounded squirting blood all over the place.  Also she had the state raffle tag not the governors tag.  I sure would not have killed one out of that field if I had the tag, what a blast that would be to be able to hunt with a rifle right now, she missed out totally, the expereince is worth more than the kill,  I was hunting with a tag holder and am so still extremely jealous, those guys are sure some lucky hunters thats for sure.  Monster bulls everywhere.

did she shoot it with a bow?
Title: Re: Skagit County Nooksack bulls

No it was with her rifle.  It kinda leaves a bad picture to non hunters about us hunters when someone shots a bull out of a field right off the highway and it runs around wounded, crap happens but its just more fuel on the fire for the antis.

Bearhunter,

Any more native american harvest updates? I am concerned they are going to start thinking like the makahs and start making their own rules.

From what I have heard something like 3 bulls the indians have killed could be wrong, dont have real accurate info its all hear say.  When I return from Idaho at the end of the month I will post some pictures of hopefully both the archery bulls taken, then I will be heading out with one of the guys that have the muzzeloader tag then the rifle tag.  So I try and keep everyone posted.

Hey Bearhunter, I know the other two brothers that hold the Muzzleloader tags. One of them lives up in Marblemount. I wish I was one of these lucky tag holders. Can't wait to see more pics.
