Has anyone came across a tripod that is lightweight and durable for taking into the high country?
After my recent post about a packable spotting scope, I purchased the Vortex Razor HD 16-48x65. I am looking for a decent tripod that will hold this unit with ease.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have the vortex summit ss and like it a lot. Got it from elknut

Check out Slik tripods. 624 or 634. Gitzo and Outdoorsman's also make great ones, but more pricey.

I was looking at that one with a pan head...
And looking at a Vanguard with pan head also.
The vortex one is a pound or so lighter.

A pound is a lot of weight in the backcountry!

I have a sirui T-025X tripod for backcountry use. It works great and is light.
It comes with a ball head, and I generally don't like those, but the panning feature on it makes it alright.

I've got the Slik Sprint Mini Pro with a Manfrotto Head and love it. Total weight for the pair is I believe 2.3 pounds (that's a pan head and tripod). It's beefy enough to handle an 80MM Swaro.
Best part? You could pick up the pair for around 150$ total.

For back country I'm using the Vortex Summitt SS with a Leupold 15-30x40. I've been happy with this setup.

I would say under $200

if glassing while standing is not a priority, i would go with what silk is running.
if it is, id step up the the slik 634 with same head.
after trying two, im NOT a fan of the vortex tripods.

I have a vortex highcountry i just got and have been using with my razor 11-33-50 and i am not impressed with the tripod, seems cheap, flimsy, but it is small and will hold still if sitting
