Title: does changing the draw weight affect the strike of the arrow on a target?
Post by: MAVsled on December 06, 2008, 09:46:19 PM
stats: Matthews Switchback XT right hand, origin set at #70, 29" draw length, 7595 Gold Tip XT w/125 field points.

I did a little target practice today. After an injury from a fall in the driveway and recovering from tenditis in the left arm/elbow, I Changed the draw weight by 3/4 turn on each limbs bolt adjustment, Matthews says it changes draw weight by 3-4 lbs per one full turn. So my estimation of draw weight is now about #66-#67. will have friend test it tomorrow.
But the arrow strike on the target didn't change much with the adjustment. The 20, 30 & 40 yard pins aimed at the Block target dots still struck in the dots of aimpoint.

I thought with less draw weight and corrresponding less arrow speed, the sighted in pins @#70lbs would have different target results with bow adjusted to less draw weight.

any opinions?

but the arrows didn't go in as far on the Block target  :)

When I shot Mathews here a few years back, 1 full turn on my bows would only take down the poundage about 2 lbs... So, at 3/4 of a turn if it is under the same incriments as mine was, I would say you only took it down around a pound and a half... Probably not enough to make any real difference up close and even a ton of difference out a longer ranges...

Not enough poundage difference to cause much affect.  Drop 5-8 and you will notice and 10 is very noticeable.
