Robin Williams is dead. He was a funny and talented man. I will miss his comedy.
-
Just saw that. They are suspecting suicide by asphyxiation. Sad for sure! He cracked me up
-
So So Sad! Started out on Happy Days, as the Fonz's imaginary friend, "Mork." Then "Mork from Ork," "Mork and Mindy" and so so many more. One of my all time favorite actors and one of the best of all times!
-
That is really sad, depression is a terrible thing and truly a silent killer, never be to proud to get help for this disease.
-
:'(
He was one of myfavorite comediens.
-
Sad! He done alot for out troops!!!!
RIP Robin Williams
-
:'(
He was one of myfavorite comediens.
Good Morning Vietnam is still one of the better movies of all time.
-
I heard this was a hoax and he is actually alive an well. :dunno: :dunno:
-
He sure was a talented actor. he had the most contagious smile.
Sad example yet again that even though you may have money, doesn't necessarily mean you're happy.
-

His family has confirmed his death.
-
so sad. :(
-
:yeah:
-
God bless you Robin, you made us happy nad will be missed.
-
Sad day indeed, one of the best comedians there has ever been.
-
Really sucks :'(
-
Goes to show that what you see on the outside isn't always what is going on on the inside. Everyone you meet is fighting a battle of their own. Be kind.
RIP RW
-
Few actors able to make you laugh and cry within a single paragraph. He fought so many demons and over came so much, yet always made me laugh with such ease. What a great loss!
The Fisher King is one of my all time favorite movies. Might need to light a candle and watch it again tonight. :'(
-
Sad. RIP.
-
Like Radsav, The Fisher King is one of my favorite movies too.
I was just thinking of Robin the other day and how I hadn't seen him in a role like he played in Good Will Hunting or The Dead Poets Society in awhile. That strong male mentor role. Knowing that he'd gone off to rehab in recent years I thought it would be nice to see him in such a strong role again.
Such a creative mind. Its tough to take.
-
That is really sad, depression is a terrible thing and truly a silent killer, never be to proud to get help for this disease.
And KEEP TRYING for those you love that won't!

:yeah: one of the best, suicide sucks!!
-
:sry: I was a big fan of him. So funny, clever smart and talented. Garth was hilarious! Still enjoy Mork n Mindy. What was the thriller with Robert Dinero he did? Good flick. So sad. The depression and pain he suffered thru I had no idea he had these issues.
-
I'm waiting for the liberal spin.......
What do you mean by this? He didn't make his 20million yet this year? He had a terrible life? It was the way he was brought up? Just curious what that means.
-
What was the thriller with Robert Dinero he did?
I know he did Awakenings with De Niro. Another one of my favorite Williams movies. Though I didn't consider that a thriller. Also The Big Wedding with De Niro. Insomnia was a thriller, but that was Al Pacino (I always get the two confused).
I'll have to do a Wiki search and see if I missed a movie!

Some people have such extreme political tunnel Vision that everything, absolutely everything can and should be blamed on the opposite political viewpoint. The comment makes no sense in a discussion of Robin Williams' death whatsoever, but I'm waiting for the feeble attempt at an explanation.

Thanks Rad, it was Insomnia and Pacino. I really liked it. Wasnt his typical role.

This is horribly sad. He's the last guy I would have thought.... But Hollywood is full of extremely talented, not necessarily stable individuals who in many cases deal with the pressures of the industry by exploring chemical refreshments. And those chemicals never really solve your problems or make you sustainably happy. Just enjoy the art he created and try to learn a lesson (if there is one available here).
-
Yes very sad. Prayers for the family.
Suicide = A permanate solution to a temporary problem :twocents:
-
Maybe one of my favorites and possibly a glimpse inside ...What Dreams May Come.....and Dead Poets Society are my two favorite movies of his. I also loved his comedy and his many roles in films that just make you bust a gut.
Depression does not preclude one from being happy it simply haunts you .... I am happy my life is blessed and sometimes I wish I didn't exist because it seems so pointless and futile.
I am still sad he is gone he was one of the very good ones....
-
The GF and I recently talked about the entertainers that will be remembered as some of the greats from our lifetimes. Robin Williams was on that list. It's hard to understand how someone can have the world by the tail and be so unhappy.

In my opinion when Williams stepped out of his usual roles is when he did his best work. Some of those movies weren't great movies, but Williams himself was stellar and made them worth watching. Movies like One Hour Photo and his Emmy winning performance as Merritt Rook on SVU as examples of just how versatile and commanding he was as an actor. As a "bad guy" he was disturbingly fabulous! I will miss those weeks and months of anticipation waiting for the release of his next movie. His presence will be missed around this household for sure!
Our prayers go out to his family. I'm sure their devastation is extensive. What a horrible loss :'(
Note: For those who never saw him in SVU I strongly suggest watching it. It ran in 2008 under the episode name "Authority". One of the most outstanding performances you will ever see from an actor - TV or Movie!
-
Robin Williams annoyed the hell out of me. I couldn't stand the guy.
Having said that,it's sad that he felt suicide was the answer.
-
It's hard to understand how someone can have the world by the tail and be so unhappy.
Because Robin William choose not to have God in his life, He choose to be Selfish and not be thoughtful of his wife and his family. If he knew God, He wouldn't do it. Demon working so Hard thur people heart to get destroy and loves loves to see people Unhappy, divorce, hate eachother, greed about money, sex before married, Affair, murder, steal, watching bad movies, many list.... People start to forget about God everyday. Bible is everything telling truth. I pray God to show all people who doesn't know him that wouldn't do it.
Any mistakes you made, God will forgive you only IF you asked him and Lord will fill your heart. I admit myself I am not perfect and I want to a better person.
Pray on way for Robin's wife to be with lord.

It seems like a lot of these great comedians are plagued with deep depression that you can't see. I hope he is remembered for all the good things he did, and not the one final bad thing... RIP Robin Williams. :sry:

:yeah:
Many of the great comedians and many great artist in general struggle with depression. It is sad to think so many great minds are hampered with it. Makes me wonder if that isn't why they were so great in the first place.

I think John Wayne said it best, when asked why he was such a successful actor: "Because the men I portrayed were the men I wish I was.". Coming down from a great role, and back to reality has to be wearing on a person. It's not all glamor...

Coming down from a great role, and back to reality has to be wearing on a person. It's not all glamor...
I remember Heath Ledger talking about how hard it was to come down off the ledge after playing the Joker. Said he had gotten so far into character it was like he had touched evil and couldn't seem to wash it off. In the same interview he said he was having regular nightmares and wasn't getting much sleep. I often wonder if the drug mix-up that led to his death wasn't in some way related to his inability to fully return to himself after that role.
-
I too enjoyed his non comedic roles best,a great villain. Hope they tap Leno to deliver the eulogy.

As someone who came up in the 90's, Robin Williams was a huge icon. He will truly be missed.

If you think about it, Jesus kinda committed suicide too. Go sell your snake oil fairy tale somewhere else.

I hadn't heard how he had died until just now when I read this:
Authorities detailed Robin Williams’ final moments Tuesday, saying the actor and comedian hanged himself with a belt in his San Francisco Bay Area home.
Marin County Sheriff’s Lt. Keith Boyd said Williams was last seen alive by his wife Sunday night when she went to bed. She woke up the next morning and left, thinking he was still asleep.
Shortly after that, Williams’ personal assistant came to the Tiburon home and became concerned when Williams failed to respond to knocks at a door. The assistant found the 63-year-old actor dead in a bedroom and called police.

I guess that's why he didn't shoot himself! :dunno:
-
I'm not surprised. I met him while hiking one time. He was just as pshyco in person as he was on TV. Too bad too. He had some real talent. Sad to see a person reach levels so low that they end their own lives.

When cable tv was making the scene, Robin had a couple of specials on HBO way before Happy Days and Mork and Mindy. very early 80's.

Don't let this devolve into a religious debate thread folks, it's about Robin Williams - whom I'm going to miss seeing his work.
Instead of bickering about grammar and God, how about posting some highlights off youtube.

Ironic, Robin did one of the most powerful films against suicide ever done.

Hmmm....never did see that one. May have to look for that one of these days.
I liked Good Will Hunting.
What was that one where he played a kid that grew up fast and looked like an adult but still had the mind of a kid? Its been a long time since I watched that one; he did some great acting in that as well.

Good Will Hunting is a much different and much better movie

Yeah, I know. It was 2 different thoughts. I was saying how I really liked Good Will Hunting. But also how I liked that other movie...... 'Jack' - Thanks, I was trying to remember the name.

I misread your paragraph, thought it said "Was that the one..." vs "What was that one..."
