Title: 358 STA custom build. Whats this thing worth?
Post by: wildmanoutdoors on August 13, 2014, 01:53:48 PM
Have a friend who passed and his wife is selling a couple of his firearms.
This on in particular we cannot put a price on. Pics and build specs are here. Shot very little and still like new.
Id love to have it but have no idea what the value is. We want to be fair to her too.
It also has a magna port job.
I have lots more pics of the gun also.

I'm no expert but I'd have to say somewhere between $1500 and $2000.

You might want to try Pinto's Gun in Renton (425) 227-9280. They acquired a lot of Dan's stuff when he wanted to slow down and retire. Just a thought, Dan did some great work for me on a custom 22-250 a few years back.

Interarms Mark X's are commercial mauser actions.  Solid, but not a top of the line custom.  Douglas barrels are good, but not top of the line either.  358 STA is an 8mm mag necked up to 35, not a well known round.  A reloader's rifle for sure.  And a lot of punishment on both ends when the trigger is pulled.

The scope is an older Leupold Vari-X III 6.5-20, worth probably $450-500.

Mcmillan stock certainly adds value.

I had not heard of Daniel Cowen, riflesmith, but if he is well-known and respected that can add some value.

The magna-porting deducts value to most hunters, but with a 26" barrel, you could lop it off and recrown.

My guess is $1250-1500 with the scope is what its worth, but it might take a bit of time to find a buyer.  Good luck!

It's worth more if you part it out.  Scope, barreled action,  stock.....I can see 2k in parts or a $1500.00 rifle.

I'm gonna get flamed for this....

1/2 the price of the parts it took to build the rifle.

Custom bolt action rifles are very difficult to sell and even harder to get your money back out of.

I have a safe full of them....................

Hey since I saw this again. We did find the price to build. Complete with scope it was right at 3000.
The setup is for sale for 1700 as of now.
