Any of you wetsiders know of a store that stocks waterproof bibs? Brand preference? what should I be looking to spend?
Thanks
None of the Cabelas have any in the store.
-
Where are you heading out of? I would pick up a pair of Gruden's. Sportco in Fife, carries them, if you pass by it. If you are heading from Spokane across I-90, south on I-5 near exit 139-140, east side of freeway.
-
Out of Westport H20. I have heard of that brand. See them on deck hands of fishing pics, so must be pretty decent
Not sure if i'll be driving all the way, or flying with a friend who has a small plane from Renton. Depends on the weather
-
Harbor Saw & Supply in Hoquiam. Depending on where you are going out of.
http://harborsaw.com/ (http://harborsaw.com/)
They don't list the rain gear on the web-site, but they sell loads of it.
-
Sturgeon will tear almost anything to shreds, grundens last longer than most. If your just tuna fishing, any waterproof gear will work. Grundens are some of the best, but may be overkill.
-
Google Work n More in Tukwila. It's right on your way.
-
Thanks for all the help guys

Gruden's
-
When are you going? Traveling through the tricities? If so I have pants and a jacket of grudens you can borrow to save some spending money. They are a few years old and a big size but don't leak and keep you dry and warm. You're more than welcome to them for your trip of you want.
-
Thanks for the offer 92, that would be awesome, but I won't be travelling that far south.
-
Got some breathable waders?
Ribka cut the bottoms off an old pair and used them when we went out, worked good for him, stayed dry.
-
Yes but I don't want to cut them up :chuckle:
I don't know why they wouldn't work, but the boat guide says "must have" waterproof bibs, and knee high rubber boots. I wouldn't mind getting my gortex waders bloody. Wonder if there is a reason they wouldn't do. They say no exceptions, and I hate to get over there and not have acceptable gear???
-
Englund Marine in Westport.
-
Found a pair of carhartts at Big R in spokane. $40
-
Don't wear anything you don't want ruined. Tuna and tuna blood stink like crazy. Breathables or gore tex won't be good for anything other than Tuna if that's what you wear. I just wear an old set of clothes because I sweat like a whore in church when I wear grundens or helly hansen
-
I have had the Carhartts for 7-8 years and they are very heavy duty. My fishing buddy has them too and he works construction using them. Mine are black but for safety I would rather have something in a bright color so if you went overboard it would be easier to find you.
-
ya don't get black get as light of color as you can find. it can get hot out there you will burn up wearing any dark pair. white grundens are thebest
-
It's a one day trip. Hopefully I'll survive. The ones I got are a dark green. But they had yellow
Then I'll keep em in my truck for nasty weather duties
If you want me to exchange for yellow put up a vote :chuckle:
-
Dont forget to eat the heart of the first tuna you catch!!!!
who are you fishing with?
-
All Rivers
-
All Rivers
Mark Coleman is an awesome skipper! youll have a good time
-
Awesome. That is good to know
Will be my first time that far out. Hope I hold up my end
-
Anybody know how the Tuna bite has been? My trip is this Sunday. Stoked to say the least. Some friends fished over there last week for 5 days and didn't catch one tuna. (they were not with a fishing guide, but had fished before with success). Makes me a little nervous.
-
Mark will put you on fish. I wouldn't be surprised to see you guys plug the boat.
-
 That's what I want to hear. Hope you mean with fish, not something else. :chuckle:

I went out with Mark with a group of buddies 2 weeks ago and plugged the boat. We were on fish all day. On our way home from the tuna grounds by 11:30. It was epic.
-
I'm assuming plugging the boat means lots of fish. What is an average catch #? Is their a limit or just a rule of thumb?
-
Marks boat will hold about 40 fish for 6 anglers.
Buddies got back last night from 4 days out there. Said it has been unusaully slow for this time of year.
Good days, slow days. You just never know.
If the Tuna are farther South and the charters are going out front of Ilwaco or the like, you will still be fishing the Westport areas as Marks boat cant make those long runs on his single day charters.
Been there, done that. With a little luck, the fish will move back in and up. If he offers to do a half day Salmon and the Tuna is slow. Id jump on it!

Mark's boat holds more than 40 fish. I can guarantee that first hand. :chuckle:

Mark can easily run wherever the fish are... he does it every day. The fish have been south a ways this year, a buddy had to go down to the 25 line to find them this weekend, but never went past the 125 line. I've fished down to the 17 line in my boat from westport, makes for a very long run but no one has been having to go that far this year. If they were, Mark could certainly make that run... no problem.
To plug the boat its just how many fish the boat can hold and keep cool in ice. 40 would not plug Marks boat, he just got 80 the other day. It depends on how big the fish are though, I've had 46 plug my boat and also had just over 30 and no where to put anymore.
The fishing has been phenomenal lately (all summer long actually). I would bet good money your arms will be sore after your trip.
-
Gonna be a long week at work. I can hardly sleep at night

Im sure everything will work out. But Mark cant run everywere the fish are. I was on his boat when we couldent! Seas were a bit too much for a run off the Big C. We fished alone off Guides canyon and saw no other boats and caught 2 fish. The Charters were SW and tearing it up.
-
Yesterday he plugged the boat at 12:30pm with 80 fish running 55miles SW of Westport.
-
6 more days........come on fish stay there
-
Mark Coleman is an awesome guy!
-
I'd get red ledge light weight rain gear and extra tough boots. I ran this gear on the bearing sea for years. If you get cold you can add sweatshirt. The drawback is you might only get 2-4 weeks of fishing with them before they start to leak. When I used to commercial fish I would wear heavy bibs like grunden or guy cotton during the winter and light weight pants during the summer salmon season. Always wore the light weight top because comfort and mobility mattered more than longevity. For about $40 each you will have all the rain gear you should need for August. Bring some large rubber bands to put around your ankles over your pants. It keeps the waves from shooting up your pants into your boots. Wet boots and socks are the worst.

You're gonna need Alieve/Advil more than bibs, he brought back 94 to the dock yesterday.

Like I said, its been a phenomenal season so far. The weather forecast for you is looking great... you're gonna have a blast

You hearing any reports of closer than 55 sw?
-
No most the reports I have heard I either way west or quite a ways south. 50-55 miles. We should hear some newer reports here any day I'm a little out of the loop right now
-
Sounds like you should be able to put that new canner to good use.
-
I'm not sure Reid or I are too eager to run 55.
-
We are making a run Friday and I talked to a friend who just got in he was 43 miles straight outside the willipa he is a bait fisherman and had 1300 one day and a thousand the next straight out 60 miles that's where most of the commercials are going.
-

Going Friday, Reid will get our numbers.
-
Let me know when you get some numbers and I will holler if I get some a lot of the Westport jig boats are leaving tomorrow so hope they hit something closer might take a salmon pole charters getting fish 15 miles straight out.

I was fishing South out of Ilwaco a few weeks ago. Mark was right next to me. If the water and weather permits he can run quite a long distance for tuna. This weekend the water is going to be very good with light winds. I will be out of Ilwaco as well. Only 25-30 miles from that Port.
-
Good luck this weekend guys. Weather looks sweet...
-
Silly good yesterday. One troll fish, 61 on bait. Four hour baitstop led to quitting at noon.
-
Home from my trip. Mark and Patrick were awesome. They put us on the fish. A little slow to start, but MAN when they are on it is INTENSE. Not a relaxing fishing trip for sure. I was the only Chummer on the boat, kinda embarrassing, but I worked my way through it and pulled my weight. We boated 56 I think and it plugged the boat ..... Nice size fish it seemed but I have nothing to compare to.
I just got all mine processed, trimmed and vacuumed sealed and in the freezer a few minutes ago.
Anyway, A shout out to All Rivers, and Mark. I would fish with them again in a heart beat, but may need a "patch" for the next trip.
We saw a whale and ended up in an anchovy pod that seemed to be hovering under our boat for protection, well it made for easy fishing.
My biceps are sore today.
Had a belly and loin with some sushi last night and sushi today during the processing. I'm about beat.
Hope to do it again.
Thanks for all the help guys.
