This guy has been making regular appearances all summer. He has a very unique rack and I think I will take him if I get the chance, but I can't come up with a suitable name for him. Anyone got any ideas...?
This was his first appearance.
-
Showed up again a bit later. Grown some..
-
A little later still...
-
And these were the pictures I pulled today.
-
Trifecta.
-
Anybody think pictures 4 and 5 look like 2 different bucks?
-
Name him Cletus, cause he looks like a inbred redneck :chuckle: with a big rack
-
The "SH4" (Shore) buck. Cause a buck that big Should Have 4 points :o
Could call him the "10-4" buck since he always shows up at 10:40 something.
Or "Time Traveler" since that camera is jumping forward in time to the year 2024 to capture those pictures :chuckle:
What a cool buck. I'd take him if I got the chance too. Hope to see what that rack looks like in your hands. Good luck!
-
Not into naming animals I plan to kill and eat. But maybe Burger, or Venison. or Backstrap.
-
Dinner or maybe lunch. Oh how about breakfast
-
We had a friend who had a nice buck coming into their apple tree on a regular basis. They called him "Burgers". One year they failed to fill a tag so they made him into burgers on the last day of the season. A few years later another buck came into the yard and was living around the apple tree. They called him "Last Resort"! They also had a bear that would come by every once in awhile. His name was "Jimmy Dean" :chuckle:

I think you are right about that! Right eye guard that is split is missing on the one, and the left rear tine is pointing slightly different too. Could it be a daddy, and son combo? :dunno:
-
nice buck. His name should be 10-4. pics 4-5 are within a few seconds of each other. So I doubt its not the same buck.
-
Ooooh... Lots of good ideas. I may have to put this one to a vote at some point. Keep 'em coming...

No, I have seen him out there several times. He's a one of a kind. Usually travels with a bachelor herd of smaller 3 points. I think the eyeguard just lined up behind the other one when he truned his head.
-
Ol 3 wide.

Jimmy Dean is a great name for a "meat buck". I am going to "save" that one. Last year's buck was a huge bodied old fella with a thick, compact rack. He would have made a great "Jimmy Dean".
-
Terrence.
-
How about......
1. Bullseye
2. Target
3. Bullet Stopper
If you like a more ethnic name....
1. Carne Asada
2. Fajita
3. Delicioso
-
"Ubiquitous"
or
"Ubiquitous Tráyas" - Ubiquitous-meaning Widespread and Tráyas-meaning Three
-
name this buck? lol you guys watch to much tv
-
If you are a baseball fan...
"Sam Crawford"

The time difference is only 2 seconds apart, def same buck and a cool one at that

Man ...please do not start giving our deer names ... I think that's so messed up :twocents: :dunno:

Oh come on! Have a little fun :chuckle:
We had a buck we chased a number of years we called "Michael Johnson". Every time we ever saw him he was running like a bat out of heck! If we saw him today he'd probably be named "Usain Bolt" instead ;)
We also had what we thought was a doe with horns in E. Oregon. So we called him/her "Dr. Frank N. Furter" :IBCOOL:
Naming the animals we see on a regular basis keeps clarity when we tell guys in our group what we saw on a given day. Makes sense to me :dunno:
-
Spork!
-
Dirt Nap..........
-
Sounding like Lee and Tiffany now ....lmao :dunno: :yike: :chuckle:

Ive got a pair of cousins that name all their deer, one that comes to mind was Robo Buck, that buck was hit 5 times and traveled miles before being taken down....the shooter upgraded to a 7mm Mag, parked his .243 in the back of his dads gunsafe

Yeah, I guess I should have clarified at the start of the thread. I am not naming this deer to be cute, I am naming him for the purposes of identification when I am hunting/scouting. I can't even call him "That big 3 point", because of this guy (I named him Tripod, because all 3 of his points are the same length)...
-
"Ubiquitous"
or
"Ubiquitous Tráyas" - Ubiquitous-meaning Widespread and Tráyas-meaning Three
That's a cool name Rad, but he's not really that wide. I think maybe 23 inches at the most. Tripod is actually has a wider spread.
-
I'm from Washington...that seems wide to me :chuckle:
-
OK, I am putting up a poll. I took out the suggestions that were to meat, he's not really a "meat buck" (I don't really need names for them), and I don't want to jinx myself by naming him something presumptious like "Dirt Nap" or "Target", because that sounds like I am going to walk out there and execute him on opening day, and we all know that muleys this size disappear as soon as the first shot is fired on opening day.
That leaves us with:
Trifecta
Cletus
10-4
The SH4 Buck
Ol' 3-Wide
Terrence
Ubiquitous Trayas
Sam Crawford
Spork
Y2K
I will have the poll up just as soon as I can figure out how to do one...
-
High top
-
I added High Top because I really like that one.
OK, poll is up. Vote now.
-
Reposting a couple of pics so you can see the buck on this page...
-
3 way tie right now between Terrence, Spork and 10-4...
-
OK, so now "Cletus" is in the lead...
-
Deer should earn their names..... If he has done nothing to earn his name, his name is still backstrap sammich :chuckle:
-
:chuckle:
-
I know what you are saying. I do some naming as well. If I was watching that buck I'd call him Turkey Leg. 3 toes and a spur... :twocents:
-
Tri-guard?
I mean a mule deer with a split eyeguard deserves a name.
-
Naming deer is fun. A few years ago I got pics on my trail cam of a buck that looked like he had a narrow escape with a Cougar. His left antler was badly deformed, and he had a slit in his ear. I named him "Ol' Slit-ear" I didn't see him for a couple of years so I thought a hunter got him. This year I got a few pics of him. His left antler was almost back to normal, but you could still see the slit in his ear. (Always will). This year I also got pics of another buck that looks like he had a narrow escape with a cat, but the very tip of his ear is gone, and the left antler is deformed. Makes me wonder how many deer weren't so lucky!....
-
OK, so we ended up with a tie between Spork and Cletus. I put the decision to PathfinderJR since he will be out there hunting him with me...
...and it looks like he will be dubbed "Cletus".
I pulled down my cams the day I started this thread, so no more trailcam pics. I am headed out tomorrow morning for a spotting session. Fingers crossed...
-
Yep 4 and five are different, ya got two guy's runnin around i'll come take one off your hands....THANKYATHANKYAVERYMUCH!!!

Well, the time stamp says that the pictures were taken 2 seconds apart. If they're two different bucks... one of them will be too quick for me to kill... :chuckle:
-
I missed the vote, but I like "SPORK" something different for a different buck.
-
I missed the voting as well but I also like Spork.
-
skinny would of been mine
nice buck though
-
I vote for Sausage or Pepperoni
-
I vote for Sausage or Pepperoni
Like I said before, I didn't want to give him a "meat" name because that sounds like I know I am going to kill him. Never a "done deal" where I hunt.
...Don't want to jinx myself...
-
Any luck? I WANT UPDATES! :chuckle:

Any luck? I WANT UPDATES! :chuckle:
Saw Cletus and Tripod yesterday morning for about 15 minutes. We are not hunting until rifle season.
I have pulled all my trail cams out of the area, because every time I went to go check them I was bumping bedded deer and I didn't want to permanently blow them out of the area. I have a glassing point that I hike to where I can look from about a mile away. They were with another 3x3 that looked pretty good. I think this is the year of the 3-points in my area. All the best bucks I have seen are 3 points.
The bad news is that PathfinderJR has a Cross Country meet on opening day of deer season this year. I will hunt opening day, but he will have to wait until evening to get out there. These bucks will be a lot harder to find a few hours after the shooting starts. Good thing JR's in shape. He's probably going to have to burn some boot leather to find them...
