Title: Ebey Area
Post by: RAA_IV on August 31, 2014, 05:13:51 PM
I swung by the entrance to the release site and waterfowl area off hwy 2 and saw signs that said the area was closed and that its a nesting area. Just wondering if that's what they do every year prior to season opening or if something new came up?

Some areas have signs up about not running dogs during nesting season.  Maybe that's what it was?

I called WDFW it'll be open. I guess thats just how they keep it in the off season.

I see that they planted corn in there this year.  That will change the hunting dynamics.

Irish- No the Ebey area I'm talking about is east of Everett off Hwy 2.
CP- Yeah I saw that and I definitely don't remember that being there last year. Do you think some will be left standing?

Early on in the season it will all probably be standing.  They may cut some paths in it for the pheasant hunters but they usually don’t harvest the corn until late Oct or Nov.

Maybe, but it will be full of orange clad hordes.

Very true but I thought on Ebey waterfowlers don't have to call it quits when the phes guys do...

If you mean later in the season, yes, pheasant closes Nov 30.  But during pheasant season everyone has to follow the same rules e.g. 8:00am to 4:00pm.

Where does it say that? The website and regs don't have a notice like Crescent Lake or Cherry Valley does.

This is all I've seen:

IMPORTANT NOTICESnoqualmie Wildlife Area Hunting Hours Reinstated
Hunting hours from 8am to 4pm have been reinstated for all hunters on the following units: Stillwater, Cherry Valley, Crescent Lake. This will be in effect during the Western Washington Pheasant Season. For the rest of the hunting season normal hunting hours, half hour before sunrise to half hour after sunset, will apply. For more information, contact Sergeant Kim Chandler (425) 775-1311 ext. 122.

Seems like we have this discussion every year.  Better to have it now then during the season I guess.  This picture was taken last year at Ebey Island.  WDFW isn't always on top of posting the signage promptly but they get around to it when there are enough complaints.

Glad I'm not stuck using the public lands. I get to hunt the private property surrounding it :hello:

Private land does have its perks for sure. Been on some a little south of Ebey and Eastside but Ebey is easy and close. If you're lookin for some help cancelling flights I could certainly lend a hand.
